Fluid infiltration into retrograde granulites of the Southern Marginal Zone （Limpopo high grade terrain） is exemplified by hydration reactions, shear zone hosted metasomatism, and lode gold mineralisation. Hydration reactions include the breakdown of cordierite and orthopyroxene to gedrite ＋ kyanite, and anthophyllite, respectively. Metamorphic petrology, fluid inclusions, and field data indicate that a low H2O-activity carbon-saturated CO2-rich and a saline aqueous fluid infiltrated the Southern Marginal Zone during exhumation. The formation of anthophyllite after orthopyroxene established a regional retrograde anthophyllite-in isograd and occurred at P-Tconditions of -6 kbar and 610 ℃, which fixes the minimum mole fraction of H20 in the CO2-rich fluid phase at ~ 0.1. The maximum H20 mole fraction is fixed by the lower temperature limit （~800 ℃） for partial melting at -0.3. C-O-H fluid calculations show that the CO2-rich fluid had an oxygen fugacity that was 0.6 log10 units higher than that of the fayalite-magnetite- quartz buffer and that the CO2/（CO2＋CH4） mole ratio of this fluid was 1. The presence of dominantly relatively low density CO2-rich fluid inclusions in the hydrated granulites indicates that the fluid pressure was less than the lithostatic pressure. This can be explained by strike slip faulting and/or an increase of the rock permeability caused by hydration reactions.

Charnockites sensu lato （charnockite-enderbite series） are lower crustal felsic rocks typically characterised by the presence of anhydrous minerals including orthopyroxene and garnet. They either represent dry （H2O-poor） felsic magmas that are emplaced in the lower crust or granitic intrusions that have been dehydrated during a subsequent granulite facies metamorphic event. In the first case, post- magmatic high-temperature recrystallisation may result in widespread metamorphic granulite microstruc- tures, superimposed or replacing the magmatic microstructures. Despite recrystallisation, magmatic remnants may still be found, notably in the form of melt-related microstructures such as melt inclusions. For both magmatic charnockites and dehydrated granites, subsequent fluid-mineral interaction at inter- grain boundaries during retrogradation are documented by microstructures including K-feldspar micro- veins and myrmekites. They indicate that a large quantity of low-H2O activity salt-rich brines, were present （together with CO2 under immiscible conditions） in the lower crust.

Basalts from the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian are extensively developed in the central Lhasa subterrane, southern Tibet. Studying the petrogenesis of these rocks may have implications for the late Paleozoic arc magmatism along the central Lhasa subterrane uncovering more of the evolution of the Sumdo Paleo-Tethys Ocean and its dynamic mechanism. Basalt samples from the Luobadui Formation in the Leqingla area, NW of Linzhou City in the central Lhasa subterrane, southern Tibet exhibit arc-like geochemical signatures in a subduction-zone tectonic setting characterized by high Al_(2)O_(3) and low TiO_(2) contents, fractionated REE patterns with low Nb/La ratios and high LREE concentrations, and negative HFSE anomalies. Based on their higher Th/Ce, Nb/Zr, and lower Ba/Th, Pb/Nd ratios, slightly negative to positive ε_(Nd)(t) values, and the relatively high Sr-Pb isotopic compositions, these samples were probably derived from partial melting of a depleted mantle source of garnet + spinel lherzolite, metasomatized by subducted sediments around 297 Ma. Modeling of the trace elements indicates that these basalts experienced fractional crystallization of olivine, clinopyroxene and minor plagioclase during magma ascent and eruption. It is proposed that these Late Carboniferous–Early Permian basalts are associated with the northward subduction of the Sumdo Paleo-Tethys Ocean seafloor along the southern margin of the central Lhasa subterrane.

Jacques Touret(Fig.1)passed away on 11 March 2024 in Paris at the age of 88 after a long *** is survived by his wife Lydie Touret,four children,and 14 *** was a pioneer in the field of fluid inclusions and its applications in high-grade metamorphic *** his retrospective paper in Geoscience Frontiers(Touret,2014),Jacques described himself as someone who dedicated"...a great part of my scientifiic life to the study of minute bubbles in rocks issued from the most extreme depths of our mother Earth".He will be remembered as a very amiable person and his infectious enthusiasm for fluid inclusions.

Ghost species form an important component of the epiphytic lichens in temperate forests

Sequencing of environmental samples has great potential for biodiversity research, but its application is limited by the lack of reliable DNA barcode databases for species identifications. Such a database has been created for epiphytic lichens of Europe, allowing us to compare the results of environmental sequencing with standard taxonomic surveys. The species undetected by taxonomic surveys (what we term the ghost component) amount to about half of the species actually present in hectare plots of Central European forests. Some of these, which currently occur only as diaspores or weakly developed thalli, are likely to be favoured in the course of global change. The ghost component usually represents a larger fraction in managed forests than in old-growth unmanaged forests. The total species composition of different plots is much more similar than suggested by taxonomic surveys alone. On a regional scale, this supports the well-known statement that "everything is everywhere, but, the environment selects".

The first liver transplantation(LT)in humans was performed by Thomas Starzl on March 1,1963[1,2](Fig.1).During the period 1963-1983,this challenging procedure was performed in four centers only,one in the USA and three in Western Europe:Denver,Cambridge,Hannover and *** collected experience including only 540 cases(meaning 27(!)cases yearly)was the basis of the 1983 National Institutes of Health(NIH)development consensus conference leading to the conclusion that LT could become“a promising alternative to the current therapy in the management of the late phase of several forms of serious liver disease…candidates are those who exhausted alternative medical and surgical treatments…and are approaching the terminal phase of their illness”.Patients presenting liver tumors and inherited,liver based,metabolic diseases could also be considered for LT[3].This conference put forward ten absolute and five relative contraindications restricting thereby the access to LT to a minority of very well selected liver diseased patients.

Decades of research asserted that the oligodendroglial lineage comprises two cell types:oligodendrocyte precursor cells and ***,recent studies employing single-cell RNA sequencing techniques have uncovered novel cell states,prompting a revision of the existing *** forward,the oligodendroglial lineage should be delineated into five distinct cell states:oligodendrocyte precursor cells,committed oligodendrocyte precursor cells,newly formed oligodendrocytes,myelin-forming oligodendrocytes,and mature *** new classification system enables a deeper understanding of the oligodendroglia in both physiological and pathological *** this uniform terminology will facilitate comparison and integration of data across ***,including the consolidation of findings from various demyelinating models,is essential to better understand the pathogenesis of demyelinating ***,comparing injury models across species with varying regenerative capacities can provide insights that may lead to new therapeutic strategies to overcome remyelination ***,by standardizing terminology and synthesizing data from diverse studies across different animal models,we can enhance our understanding of myelin pathology in central nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis,Alzheimer's disease,and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,all of which involve oligodendroglial and myelin dysfunction.

Assessing XEN microstent’s one-year efficacy:independent of site variability

AIM:To evaluate the short-term efficacy of XEN45 Gel Stent(XEN)implantation for primary open angle glaucoma(POAG)and pseudoexfoliation(PEX)glaucoma across two university eye clinics,aiming to assess the impact of varying center-specific protocols during the first postoperative ***:We retrospectively examined 282 patients(183 in center 1,99 in center 2),who underwent XEN microstent implantation for uncontrolled POAG or PEX *** including intraocular pressure(IOP),IOP-lowering medication count,best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),and postoperative complications were evaluated over ***:Post-implantation,center 1 reported a mean IOP reduction from 25.3±7.4 to 14.1±4.7 mm Hg(P<0.01)and a decrease in IOP-lowering medications from 3.2±1.2 to 1.0±1.3(P<0.01).Center 2 observed a similar reduction from 24.4±6.5 to 15.1±5.5 mm Hg(P<0.01)and medication decrease from 3.0±1.1 to 1.2±1.0(P<0.01).BCVA remained stable in both *** most common complications were hypotony(center 1:32;center 2:20)and choroidal detachment(center 1:22,center 2:15),with nearly identical needling rates(40% in center 1,41% in center 2).CONCLUSION:XEN implantation yields consistent reductions in IOP and medication use across different centers using comparable surgical and postoperative treatment *** findings underscore XEN’s shortterm effectiveness and suggest standardizable outcomes regardless of exact surgical procedure or treatment differences.

The current performance of biodegradable magnesium-based implants in magnetic resonance imaging:A review

Magnesium-based implants are re-emerging as a substantial amendment to standard orthopaedic implants.A brief introduction of magnesium(Mg)as a biodegradable material and basic magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)principles are *** review aims to highlight the current performance of these implants during examinations with *** also aim to summarise comparisons between Mg-based implants with current standards to emphasise the promotion of biodegradable implants in clinical practice.A comprehensive search of current literature on Mg-based implants and the utilisation of MRI in the studies was ***,recorded artefact behaviour of Mg-based implants during MRI was investigated.A total of nine studies were included in which MRI was employed to image Mg-based *** those studies,four of the nine discuss artefact production caused by the *** successfully imaged regions of interest over all and produced fewer artefacts than other materials used in the *** was employed in contrast angiography,bone growth observation,bone infection healing,and blood *** capabilities of an implant material are vital to translating products into clinical *** findings presented in this review suggest and support the use of Mg-based implants due to their successful visual compatibility with MRI techniques.
