Introduction: The ma.n indica.ion for surgery of thora.ic w.ll deformities (Tw.) is psychologica. due to cosmetic compla.nts. The a.sumption is tha. a.pea.a.ces ha.e a.nega.ive effect on?self-esteem a.d qua.ity of life?(QoL). Correction should result in improvement. Methods: Prospective tria.. QoL w.s a.sessed using the?CHQ a.d the w.OQOL-bref. Mea.urements w.re ta.en before surgery (T1) a.d 6 w.eks therea.ter (T2). Results: Forty-tw. pa.ients w.re included.?w.OQOL-bref show.d differences betw.en pre-opera.ive a.d?six w.eks pa.t surgery on fa.et body ima.e (p = 0.003).?Self-esteem (CHQ) did not show.a.significa.t improvement a. T2.?Concerning the scores on the single step questionna.re (SSQ),?33 pa.ients w.re “very” to “extremely sa.isfied” w.th a.pea.a.ce a.d increa.ed self-esteem (p a.n “pa.n a.d physica. compla.nts”, CHQ did show.a.significa.t cha.ge (p w.th more compla.nts a. T2. Conclusion: Six w.eks a.ter surgica. correction of a.Tw. sa.isfa.tion w.th the “new. chest is good;pa.n seems to be a.problem w.th possible nega.ive influence on self-esteem.
