The relationship of high-intensity cross-training with arterial stiffness

Background'.Central arterial stiffness is a cardiovascular risk factor that can be readily affected through engagement in physical exercise training,with resistance and aerobic exercise having disparate *** the growing popularity of high-intensity cross-training(HICT),little is currently known about the effects of this mixed modality exercise stimulus on arterial ***,the purpose of this study was to characterize the arterial stiffness of habitual HICT participants *** active and sedentary controls using a cross-sectional ***'.A total of 30 participants were recruited:10 middle-aged long-term participants of HICT(Crossfit)and 20 age,sex,and height matched controls(10 recreationally active,10 sedentary).Central and peripheral pulse wave velocities were measured for the carotid-femoral and femoral-dorsalis pedis arterial *** fitness(maximal oxygen uptake,VChmax)was measured and typical exercise participation rates were self-reported for each ***'.HICT participants manifested central pulse wave velocity(PWV)(5.3±1.0 m/s,mean±SD)and VChmax(43±6 mL/kg/min)values nearly identical to active *** active groups had significantly better values than sedentary controls(7.1±1.0 m/s,p≤0.001;and 32±7 mL/kg/min,p=0.01).No differences were observed in peripheral PWV between ***'.Habitual participation in HICT exercise was not associated with increased central nor peripheral arterial ***-term HICT participants presented with similar fitness and arterial stiffness as compared with participants who practiced traditional aerobic *** to sedentary living,HICT may offer musculoskeletal and cardiovascular health benefits without negatively impacting arterial stiffness.

Social networks improve leaderless group navigation by facilitating long-distance communication

Group navigation is of great importance for many animals, such as migrating flocks of birds or shoals of fish. One theory states that group membership can improve navigational accuracy compared to limited or less accurate individual naviga- tional ability in groups without leaders （＂Many-wrongs principle＂）. Here, we simulate leaderless group navigation that includes social connections as preferential interactions between individuals. Our results suggest that underlying social networks can reduce navigational errors of groups and increase group cohesion. We use network summary statistics, in particular network motifs, to study which characteristics of networks lead to these improvements. It is networks in which preferences between individuals are not clustered, but spread evenly across the group that are advantageous in group navigation by effectively enhancing long-distance information exchange within groups. We suggest that our work predicts a base-line for the type of social structure we might expect to find in group-living animals that navigate without leaders

Bridge vibration under complex wind field and corresponding measurements: A review

Due to increased demands in transportation development,bridge construction has been extended to areas with complex wind *** addition to common flow features such as high wind speeds and strong turbulence intensity,in coastal areas,bridges are likely to be exposed to non-stationary and non-Gaussian high-speed wind fields during hurricane *** built in mountainous regions will experience varying wind directions,incident angles of attack(AOA),and wind speed variation due to undulating *** complex wind fields are challenging to the bridge engineering community to which accurate calculation methods and suppression measures for bridge vibration are urgently *** this paper,state-of-the-art research results are introduced through three categories:(a)the distinctive characteristics of complex wind fields in offshore and mountainous areas,(b)the categories of wind-induced vibrations for bridges,and(c)the suppression measures employed in engineering *** now,the studies regarding the coupled bridge vibration in complex wind fields have made considerable progress,but a richer database of actual wind measurement results and more efficient simulation methods still need to be further established.

Global warming potential associated with Irish milk powder production

Climate change is an ever growing issue and a major concem worldwide. Both producers and processors need to address the issue now by reducing, their carbon footprint. Additionally, if Ireland is to meet their climate and energy targets, as outlined in food Harvest 2020, which outlines a range ot objectives for the Irish agricultural sector, the efficient use of resources and fuels within the industry will need to be increased. In Ireland, agriculture accounts for 29.2% of the total greenhouse gas powder, is examined in order to estimate the global warming potential （GWP） associated with its manufacture using life cycle assessment. A cradle-to-processing factory gate analysis, which includes raw milk production, raw milk transportation to the processmg tactory, its processing into eacla product and product packaging, is assessed in this study using data collected circa 2013. The factories surveyed processed approximately 24% of the total raw milk processed in the Republic of Ireland in 2013, which was 5.83 billion liter. The average total GWP associated with the manufacture of milk powder is 9.731 kg CO2eq·kg^-1 milk powder, which has a standard deviation of 2.26 kg CO2eq·kg^-1 milk powder, for the life cycle stages analyzed in this study. The most significant contributor to GWP is raw milk production （84%）, followed by dairy processing （14%）, with the remainder of the life cycle stages contributing approximately 2%.

Mycophenolate mofetil for maintenance of remission in steroid-dependent autoimmune pancreatitis

Systemic corticosteroids represent the standard treatment for autoimmune pancreatitis with IgG4-associated *** steroid-dependent disease,azathioprine has been used for maintenance of *** mofetil has been used for transplant immunosuppression and more recently for autoimmune hepatitis;however,there are no case reports to date on the use of mycophenolate mofetil in adult patients with autoimmune pancreatitis.A patient with IgG4-mediated autoimmune pancreatitis and IgG4-associated cholangitis refractory to steroids and intolerant of azathioprine was treated with mycophenolate mofetil,which inhibits de novo guanosine synthesis and blockade of both B and T lymphocyte *** of mycophenolate mofetil and uptitration to 1000 mg by mouth twice daily over a treatment period of 4 mo was associated with improvement in the patient's energy level and blood glucose control and was not associated with any adverse *** patient was managed without a biliary ***,there was a return of symptoms,jaundice,increase in transaminases,and hyperbilirubinemia when the prednisone dose reached 11 mg per *** the first report of mycophenolate mofetil use in an adult patient with IgG4-associated autoimmune pancreatitis and IgG4-associated cholangitis,the introduction of mycophenolate mofetil was safe and well-tolerated without adverse events,but it did not enable discontinuation of the *** mofetil and other immunomodulatory therapies should continue to be studied for maintenance of remission in the large subset of patients with refractory or recurrent autoimmune pancreatitis.

Crouzon syndrome mouse model exhibits cartilage hyperproliferation and defective segmentation in the developing trachea

Crouzon syndrome is the result of a gain-of-function point mutation in fGfR2. Mimicking the human mutation, a mouse model of Crouzon syndrome(fgfr2342Y) recapitulates patient deformities, including failed tracheal cartilage segmentation, resulting in a cartilaginous sleeve in the homozygous mutants. We found that the fgfr2C342Y/C^342Y mutants exhibited an increase in chondrocytes prior to segmentation. This increase is due at least in part to over proliferation. Genetic ablation of chondrocytes in the mutant led to restoration of segmentation in the lateral but not central portion of the trachea. These results suggest that in the fgfr2C342Y/C342Y mutants, increased cartilage cell proliferation precedes and contributes to the disruption of cartilage segmentation in the developing trachea.

随着城市地铁建设渐入规模,越来越多的地铁建设将面临多次穿越既有地铁线路的问题,这是新线建设中等级最高的风险工程之一。对这类问题引起的工程风险的合理预测和评估具有重大的工程意义,也是领域内研究的难点,迄今尚未提出有针对性的有效预测和评价方法。基于刚度修正法的基本思路和对实测既有线隧道变形特征的分析,从国内外典型的地铁下穿既有线的案例分析着手,着重考虑既有隧道埋深、结构刚度对其变形特征的影响,从而提出适用于预测既有线在新建隧道下穿影响下产生沉降的简便分析方法,为地铁隧道施工对既有线隧道影响的风险预测及评估提出崭新的思路和工程实用的分析途径。

BACKGROUND: Oligoanalgesia in emergency departments (EDs) is multifactorial. A previousstudy reported that emergency providers did not adequately manage patients with severe paindespite objective findings for surgical pathologies. Our study aims to investigate clinical andlaboratory factors, in addition to providers’ interventions, that might have been associated witholigoanalgesia in a group of ED patients with moderate and severe pains due to surgical ***: We conducted a retrospective study of adult patients who were transferred directlyfrom referring EDs to the emergency general surgery (EGS) service at a quaternary academic centerbetween January 2014 and December 2016. Patients who were intubated, did not have adequaterecords, or had mild pain were excluded. The primary outcome was refractory pain, which wasdefi ned as pain reduction fractory pain. Patients with refractory painhad signifi cantly higher disease severity, serum lactate (3.4±2.0 mg/dL vs. 1.4±0.9 mg/dL, P=0.001), and lessfrequent pain medication administration (median [interquartile range], 3 [3–5] vs. 4 [3–7], P=0.001), whencompared to patients with no refractory pain. Multivariable logistic regression showed that the number of painmedication administration (odds ratio [OR] 0.80, 95% confi dence interval [95% CI] 0.68–0.98) and ED serumlactate levels (OR 3.80, 95% CI 2.10–6.80) were signifi cantly associated with the likelihood of refractory ***: In ED patients transferring to EGS service, elevated serum lactate levelswere associated with a higher likelihood of refractory pain.

Pathology and genetic connectedness of the mangrove crab (Aratus pisonii) – a foundation for understanding mangrove disease ecology

Mangrove forests are productive ecosystems,acting as a sink for CO_(2),a habitat for a diverse array of terrestrial and marine species,and as a natural barrier to coastline *** species that reside within mangrove ecosystems have important roles to play,including litter decomposition and the recycling of *** are important detritivores in such ecosystems and understanding their limitations(***)is an important endeavour when considering the larger ecological services *** and metagenomics were used to identify viral(Nudiviridae,Alphaflexiviridae),bacterial(Paracoccus sp.,'Candidatus Gracilibacteria sp.’,and Pseudoalteromonas sp.),protozoan,fungal,and metazoan diversity that compose the symbiome of the mangrove crab,Aratus *** symbiotic groups were observed at varying prevalence under histology:nudivirus(6.5%),putative gut epithelial virus(3.2%),ciliated protozoa(35.5%),gonad fungus(3.2%),gill ectoparasitic metazoan(6.5%).Metagenomic analysis of one specimen exhibiting a nudivirus infection provided the complete host mitochondrial genome(15,642 bp),nudivirus genome(108,981 bp),and the genome of a Cassava common mosaic virus isolate(6387 bp).Our phylogenetic analyses group the novel nudivirus with the Gammanudivirus and protein similarity searches indicate that Carcinus maenas nudivrius is the most similar to the new *** mitochondrial genome were used to mine short fragments used in population genetic studies to gauge an idea of diversity in this host species across the USA,Caribbean,and central and southern *** study report several new symbionts based on their pathology,taxonomy,and genomics(where available)and discuss what effect they may have on the crab *** role of mangrove crabs from a OneHealth perspective were explored,since their pathobiome includes cassava-infecting ***,given that this species is abundant in mangrove forests and now boasts a well-described pathogen prof
