Floristic Diversity in Forest management Units: Implications for Biodiversity Conservation in FmU 09-025

The assessment of floristic composition and diversity is very important in forest management units. This study sets out to determine the species diversity and implications for biodiversity conservation in FmU 09-025 of the Campo ma’an National park, South Region of Cameroon. Due to human activities in the area, the study site was divided into two Blocks (A and B). The transect method was employed in data collection. A total 14 long transects were established parallel to each other in blocks at a distance of 3 km apart, 8 transects in Block A and 6 Transects in Block. In each transect, plots of 20 × 500 m were established at intervals of 500 m. Within each plot, all individual trees ≥ 10 cm were identified, measured, and recorded. The DBH of all trees were measured at 1.3 using the DBH meter tape. The height of trees was measured through estimation (average estimates of all field researchers). Results revealed a total of eight thousand one hundred and twenty four (8124) individual plants with DBH ≥ 10 cm in the entire study area. From this number, 5113 tree stems ≥ 10 cm were identified and measured in Block A. This belongs to 216 species in 47 families. In block B a total of and 5011 stems were identified and measured. This belongs to 239 species in 47 families. Fabaceae, Annonaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Rubiaceae were found to be the most dominant plant families in the study site. Erythrophleum ivorense, Lophira alata, Dialium bipindense, musanga cecropioides, Alstonia boonei, Pterocarpus soyauxii, Guibourtia ehie, Staudtia kamerunensis, Desbordesia glaucescens, Sacoglottis gabonensis were found to be the most dominant plant species. 41 species are of conservation concern according to the IUCN global Red List 2023 and IUCN local status. These species are considered species with high-priority for conservation. We have 6 endangered species, 11 near Threatened species, and 25 vulnerable species. There was no significant difference in species diversity in the two Blocks.

植物的生态过程依赖于叶片和根系的功能运行,但少有研究同时关注这两类性状在群落中的分布格局(CTD)。本文测定了广东亚热带森林44种共生木本植物的16个叶片和根系性状,旨在检验类比的叶片和根系性状是否耦合,是否沿类似的功能性状谱变异,是否表现出类似的CTD,其CTD和群落加权平均性状值(CWm)是否沿环境梯度表现出类似的响应。研究结果表明,叶片和根系性状变异的第一轴均呈显出由资源获取向资源保守变异的经济学谱,但叶片变异的第二轴主要由叶片碳含量表征,而根系变异的第二轴主要由反映菌根协作程度的根系粗细表征。类比的叶片和根系化学性状整体正相关,但形态性状的耦合程度较低。在群落水平上,叶片和根系性状第一轴的CWm均随海拔升高而变得更保守,而第二轴的变化则不一致。随土壤磷含量的降低或钾含量的升高,根系变得更细和在养分性状上更保守,而叶片性状无显著变化。当整合多维性状轴时,叶片性状呈发散格局,且随海拔、土壤磷和钾含量的增加呈收敛趋势;而根系性状呈收敛格局,但沿上述环境梯度呈发散趋势。该研究强调,叶片和根系性状与环境互作的差异可能导致不同的性状分布格局;植物可通过多样的地上和地下功能设计应对环境异质性。

In this study,the workability of cement-based grouts containing n-TiO 2 nanoparticles and fly ash has been investigated *** characteristic quantities(including,but not limited to,the marsh cone flow time,the mini slump spreading diameter and the plate cohesion meter value)have been measured for different percentages of these *** use of fly ash as a mineral additive has been found to result in improvements in terms of workability behavior as ***,if nano titanium oxide is also used,an improvement can be obtained regarding the bleeding values for the cement-based grout *** such experimental data,a multi-layer perceptron artificial neural network model has been developed(5 neurons in the hidden layer of the network model have been developed using a total of 42 experimental data).70%of the data employed in this model have been used for training,15%for validation and 15%for the test *** results demonstrate that the artificial neural network model can predict marsh cone flow time,mini slump spreading diameter and plate cohesion meter values with an average error of 0.15%.

Implicit Continuous User Authentication for mobile Devices based on Deep Reinforcement Learning

Integral abutment bridges(IABs)minimize deterioration and degradation of the abutment seats and bearings due to water,dirt,and deicing chemicals by eliminating bearings and expansion *** the continuity between superstructure and abutments in an IAB is beneficial for reducing maintenance costs,it leads to more complex behavior under strength and service loading(temperature and traffic)and extreme loading(earthquake).The coupling of superstructure and substructure behavior necessitates system-level analysis of *** seismic IAB studies have typically investigated the behavior of individual IAB components,however a gap of knowledge has developed due to the lack of studies and investigation about the behavior of all IAB components and their interactions with each other in a single analysis *** study uses nonlinear static and dynamic analyses to investigate and assess the seismic behavior of IABs typical to the state of *** analyses aim to bridge the gap of knowledge by evaluating IABs as a whole and utilizing the results to indicate potential vulnerabilities in the design and construction of IABs in Illinois during design-level and larger seismic events,which could not be identified by component-level IAB analyses alone.

Generating high-resolution climate maps from sparse and irregular observations using a novel hybrid RBF network

Sparse and irregular climate observations in many developing countries are not enough to satisfy the need of assessing climate change risks and planning suitable mitigation *** wideused statistical downscaling model(SDSm)software tools use multi-linear regression to extract linear relations between largescale and local climate variables and then produce high-resolution climate maps from sparse climate *** latest machine learning techniques(***,SRGAN)can extract nonlinear links,but they are only suitable for downscaling low-resolution grid data and cannot utilize the link to other climate variables to improve the downscaling *** this study,we proposed a novel hybrid RBF(Radial Basis Function)network by embedding several RBF networks into new RBF *** model can well incorporate climate and topographical variables with different resolutions and extract their nonlinear relations for spatial *** test the performance of our model,we generated high-resolution precipitation,air temperature and humidity maps from 34 meteorological stations in *** terms of three statistical indicators,the accuracy of high-resolution climate maps generated by our hybrid RBF network clearly outperformed those using a multi-linear regression(mLR),Kriging interpolation or a pure RBF network.

Fast extended depth of focus meta-optics for varifocal functionality

Extended depth of focus(EDOF)optics can enable lower complexity optical imaging systems when compared to active focusing *** existing EDOF optics,however,it is difficult to achieve high resolution and high collection efficiency *** subwavelength spacing of scatterers in a meta-optic enables the engineering of very steep phase gradients;thus,meta-optics can achieve both a large physical aperture and a high numerical ***,we demonstrate a fast(f/1.75)EDOF meta-optic operating at visible wavelengths,with an aperture of 2 mm and focal range from 3.5 mm to 14.5 mm(286 diopters to 69 diopters),which is a 250×elongation of the depth of focus relative to a standard ***-independent performance is shown by imaging at a range of finite conjugates,with a minimum spatial resolution of∼9.84μm(50.8 cycles/mm).We also demonstrate operation of a directly integrated EDOF meta-optic camera module to evaluate imaging at multiple object distances,a functionality which would otherwise require a varifocal lens.

Quaternion Quasi-Chebyshev Non-local means for Color Image Denoising

Quaternion non-local means(QNLm) denoising algorithm makes full use of high degree self-similarities inside images to suppress the noise, so the similarity metric plays a key role in its denoising *** this study, two improvements have been made for the QNLm: 1) For low level noise, the use of quaternion quasi-Chebyshev distance is proposed to measure the similarity of image patches and it has been used to replace the Euclidean distance in the QNLm algorithm. Since the quasi-Chebyshev distance measures the maximal distance in all color channels, the similarity of color images measured by quasi-Chebyshev distance can capture the structural similarity uniformly for each color channel; 2) For high level noise, quaternion bilateral filtering has been proposed as the preprocessing step in the QNLm algorithm. Denoising simulations were performed on 110 images of landscape, people, and architecture at different noise levels. Compared with QNLm, quaternion non-local total variation(QNLTV), and non-local means(NLm)variants(NLTV, NLm after wavelet threshold preprocessing, and the color adaptation of NLm), our novel algorithm not only improved PSNR/SSIm(peak signal to noise rate/structural similarity) and figure of merit values by an average of 2.77 dB/8.96% and 0.0491 respectively, but also reduced processing time.
