Overall and cause-specific survival for mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the major salivary glands:Analysis of 2210 patients

BACKGROUND Mucoepidermoid carcinoma(MeC)is a rare malignancy of the head and neck;however,it accounts for a majority of the tumors of the salivary *** study used a national population-based registry to describe the pre-treatment and treatment-related prognostic factors that influence survival in patients with MeC of the major salivary *** our knowledge,this is the largest populationbased study examining predictors of both overall and cause-specific survival of MeC of the major salivary *** To identify prognostic factors influencing overall survival(OS)and cause-specific survival(CSS)of patients with MeC of the major salivary *** We used the Surveillance,epidemiology and end-Results Database of the National Cancer Institute to investigate a variety of factors that could influence survival of patients diagnosed with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the major salivary glands.A total of 2210 patients diagnosed with MeC of the major salivary glands during the years of 1975-2016 were *** primary endpoints were OS and *** regression analysis was used to perform univariate and multivariate analyses of clinical variables such as age at diagnosis,diagnosis year,sex,race,tumor size,stage,grade,treatment with or without surgical excision,and adjuvant radiotherapy *** A total of 2210 patients diagnosed with MeC of the major salivary glands met inclusion *** this study,95%of patients underwent surgical excision and 41%received adjuvant radiation *** OS time for Grade I,II,and III/IV was 401 mo(±48.25,95%CI),340 mo(±33.68,95%CI)and 55 mo(±11.05,95%CI),*** analysis revealed that lack of surgical excision was associated with decreased OS[hazard ratio(HR)4.26,Pents with localized disease had improved OS compared to both regional and distant disease(HR 3.07 and 6.96,respectively,Pe analysis demonstrated that male sex,age over 50 at diagnosis,G

Using spin-assisted ab initio random structure searches,we explore an exhaustive quantum phase diagram of archetypal interfaced Mott insulators,***-iron and lanthanum-titanium *** particular,we report that the charge transfer induced by the interfacial electronic reconstruction stabilises a high-spin ferrous Fe2+*** provide a pathway to control the strength of correlation in this electronic state by tuning the epitaxial strain,yielding a manifold of quantum electronic phases,***-Hubbard,charge transfer and Slater insulating ***,we report that the electronic correlations are closely related to the structural oxygen octahedral rotations,whose control is able to stabilise the low-spin state of Fe2+at low pressure previously observed only under the extreme high pressure conditions in the earth’s lower ***,we provide avenues for magnetic switching via THz radiations which have crucial implications for next generation of spintronics technologies.

S-doped carbon aerogels/GO composites as oxygen reduction catalysts

Composites of carbon aerogel and graphite oxide（GO） were synthesized using a self-assembly method based on dispersive forces. Their surface was modified by treatment in hydrogen sulfide at 650 and800 ℃. The samples obtained were characterized by adsorption of nitrogen, TA-MS, XPS, potentiometric titration, and HRTeM and tested as catalysts for oxygen reduction reactions（ORR） in an alkaline *** synergistic effect of the composite（electrical conductivity, porosity and surface chemistry） leads to a good ORR catalytic activity. The onset potential for the composite of carbon aerogel heated at 800 ℃ is shifted to a more positive value and the number of electron transfer was 2e-at the potential 0.68 V versus RHe and it increased to 4e-with an increase in the negative values of the potential. An excellent tolerance to methanol crossover was also recorded.

A new technique for islanding operation of distribution network connected with mini hydro

An islanding operation of a distribution network is a topic of interest due to the significant penetration of distributed generation(DG) in a power system network. However, controlling the frequency of an islanded distribution system remains an unresolved issue, especially when the load exceeds the generation. This paper presents a new technique for a successful islanding operation of a distribution network connected with multiple mini hydro based DGs. The proposed technique is based on three main parts. The first part uses an islanding detection technique to detect the islanding event correctly. The second part consists of a power imbalance estimation module(PIeM), which determines the power imbalance between the generation and load demand. The third part consists of a load shedding controller, which receives the power imbalance value and performs load shedding according to load priority. The proposed technique is validated on an 11 k V existing Malaysia distribution network. The simulation results show that the proposed technique is effective in performing a successful islanding operation by shedding a significant number of loads.

Simulating canopy stomatal conductance of winter wheat and its distribution using remote sensing information

The canopy stomatal movement, a plant physiological process, generally occurs within leaves but its influence on exchange of CO2, water vapor, and sensible heat fluxes between atmosphere and terrestrial ecosystem. Many studies have documented that the interaction between leaf photosynthesis and canopy stomatal conductance is obvious. Thus, information on stomatal conductance is valuable in climate and ecosystem models. In current study, a newly developed model was adopted to calculate canopy stomatal conductance of winter wheat in Huang-Huai-Hai (H-H-H) Plain of China (31.5 - 42.7°N, 110.0 - 123.0°e). The remote sensing information from NOAA-AVHRR and meteorological observed data were used to estimate regional scale stomatal conductance distribution. Canopy stomatal conductance distribution pattern of winter wheat on March 18, 1997 was also presented. The developed canopy stomatal conductance model might be used to estimate canopy stomatal conductance in land surface schemes and seems can be acted as a boundary condition in regional climatic model runs.

Deductive way of reasoning about the internet AS level topology

Our current understanding about the AS level topology of the Internet is based on measurements and inductive-type models which set up rules describing the behavior （node and edge dynamics） of the individual ASes and generalize the consequences of these individual actions for the complete AS ecosystem using induction. In this paper we suggest a third, deductive approach in which we have premises for the whole AS system and the consequences of these premises are determined through deductive reasoning. We show that such a deductive approach can give complementary insights into the topological properties of the AS graph. While inductive models can mostly reflect high level statistics （e.g., degree distribution, clustering, diameter）, deductive reasoning can identify omnipresent subgraphs and peering likelihood. We also propose a model, called YeAS, incorporating our deductive analytical findings that produces topologies contain both traditional and novel metrics for the AS level Internet.

Dual-Use Bioenergy-Livestock Feed Potential of Giant Miscanthus, Giant Reed, and Miscane

High yielding perennial grasses could integrate bioenergy-livestock operations, thereby, offsetting diversions of cropland to lignocellulosic crops, but research is needed to determine chemical composition and digestibility of leaf and stem fractions that might affect downstream reside uses. The objective of this study was to compare feedstock quality of leaf and stem tissues of dedicated bioenergy feedstocks: giant miscanthus (Miscanthus × giganteus), giant reed (Arundo donax), and miscane (Saccharum hybrid × Miscanthus spp.) when grown with or without supplemental irrigation on an upland site. Three species were space-planted on a silt loam soil in March 2007 and harvested prior to the first freeze in plant-cane, first ratoon, and second-ratoon crops for three years. Giant miscanthus leaf tissue had greatest acid detergent lignin and cellulose, and lowest concentrations of nitrogen (N) and total nonstructural carbohydrates (TNC) in ratoon crops. Giant reed leaf tissue had greatest concentrations of in vitro digestible dry matter (IVDMD), TNC, and N (P ≤ 0.05). Conversely, miscane stem tissue had greatest concentrations of IVDMD, TNC, hemicellulose, and low dry matter and combustible energy (P ≤ 0.05). Results suggest all species’ residue has positive feedstock attributes for thermochemical bioenergy conversion, and albeit giant miscanthus has very little potential value as fodder. Miscane stem and giant reed leaf tissue have potential value as livestock feed, although giant reed is not currently recommended for planting. Further research is needed on dietary composition, acceptability, voluntary intake, and live weight gain before any of these species are recommended as livestock feed sources.
