Aggression is a common behavioral trait shared in many animals, including both vertebrates and invertebrates. However, the type and intensity of agonistic encounters and displays can vary widely both across and within species, resulting in complicated or subjective interpretations that create difficulties in developing theoretical models that can be widely applied. The need to easily and objectively identify quantifiable behaviors and their associated morphologies becomes especially important when attempting to decipher the neurological mechanisms underlying this complex behavior. Monoamines, neuropeptides, and pheromones have been implicated as important neuromodulators for agonistic displays in both invertebrates and vertebrates. Ad- ditionally, recent breakthroughs in insect research have revealed exciting proximate mechanisms important in aggression that may be broadly relevant, due to the relatively high conservation of these neurochemical systems across animal taxa. In this review, we present the latest research demonstrating the importance of monoamines, neuropeptides, and pheromones as neuromodulators for aggression across a variety of insect species. Additionally, we describe the stalk-eyed fly as a model system for studying aggres- sion, which integrates physiological, morphological, and neurochemical approaches in exploring detailed mechanisms responsible for this common yet complex behavior. We conclude with our perspective on the most promising lines of future research aimed at understanding the proximate and ultimate mechanisms underlying aggressive behaviors .

Double digest restriction-site associated sequencing(ddRAD-seq)is a flexible and cost-effective strategy for providing in-depth insights into the genetic architecture of germplasm *** this methodology,we investigated the genomic diversity of a panel of 288 diverse tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.)accessions enriched in‘da serbo’(called‘de penjar’in Spain)long shelf life(LSL)materials(152 accessions)mostly originating from Italy and *** rest of the materials originate from different countries and include landraces for fresh consumption,elite cultivars,heirlooms,and breeding *** from their LSL trait,‘da serbo’landraces are of remarkable interest for their *** identified 32,799 high-quality SNPs,which were used for model ancestry population structure and non-parametric hierarchical *** genetic subgroups were revealed,clearly separating most‘da serbo’landraces,but also the Spanish germplasm,suggesting a subdivision of the population based on type and geographical *** disequilibrium(LD)in the collection decayed very rapidly within<5 *** then investigated SNPs showing contrasted minor frequency allele(MAF)in‘da serbo’materials,resulting in the identification of high frequencies in this germplasm of several mutations in genes related to stress tolerance and fruit maturation such as CTR1 and ***,a mini-core collection of 58 accessions encompassing most of the diversity was selected for further exploitation of key *** findings suggest the presence of a genetic footprint of the‘da serbo’germplasm selected in the Mediterranean ***,we provide novel insights on LSL‘da serbo’germplasm as a promising source of alleles for tolerance to stresses.

This article highlights the importance of preeclampsia as a global public health problem and the lack of a satisfactory model to explain its genesis. Scientific advances relevant to the placental pathophysiology, which have resulted in a deeper understanding of the immunological mechanisms associated to preeclampsia and have been translated into better treatment options, are also highlighted, although to date these approaches cannot explain the origin of the disease. From a theoretical approach underpinned by the concepts related to the social determinants of the health, and specifically from current psychosocial epidemiology, an alternative approach that gives account for the genesis of preeclampsia is proposed. The proposal is based in the scientific literature as well as in the work of the authors;it takes as references unfavorable socioeconomic and psychosocial conditions in pregnant women, linking these conditions to a series of failed adaptive biological processes closely related to an ineffective allostatic response by the body, which ultimately determines the occurrence of the disease.

The goal of this work was to enhance tellurite toxicity against Gram positive bacteria, especially Staphyloccocus aureus. Using a combination of assays (growth inhibition zones, growth curves, and minimal inhibitory concentrations), tellurite toxicity against this bacterium was tested in the presence of various SH- and OH-containing compounds. Results showed that the noxiousness of tellurite was strongly enhanced in the presence of 2-mercaptoethanol or dithiothreitol. The potentiating effect was observed in S. aureus ATCC 6538 (the model organism of this study) and in other Gram positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtillis ATCC 6051 and the methicillin-resistant S. aureus strain 622-4. No enhancing effect was observed in Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli BW25113, Salmonella Typhimurium LT2 and Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 11388. These results open new perspectives for studying the treatment of multidrug-resistant Gram positive bacteria, which are responsible for numerous nosocomial infections.

In the past 5 years, the use of sorghum as substitutes for corn for feed in China has increased rapidly. Most of the recent growth of demand in sorghum has mainly been met by imported sorghum. Because sorghum is a minor crop and only shares a very small proportion of the grain production in China, few studies have examined domestic demand and supply of sorghum in China. Both China’s producers and other sorghum import countries can benefit from forecasts of China’s domestic supply and demand for sorghum.
