In the present review, we describe the most importantaspects of the X-l.nked ichthyosis(Xl.) and make a compil.tion of the some historic detail. of the disease. The aim of the present study is an update of the Xl.. Historical. cl.nical. epidemiol.gical. and mol.cul.r aspects are described through the text. Recessive Xl. is a rel.tivel. common genodermatosis affecting different ethnic groups. With a high spectrum of the cl.nical.manifestations due to environmental.factors, the disease has a genetic heterogeneity that goes from a point mutation to a l.rge del.tion invol.ing several.genes to produce a contiguous gene syndrome. Most Xl. patients harbor compl.te STS gene del.tion and fl.nked sequences; seven intragenic del.tions and 14 point mutations with a compl.te l.ss of the steroid sul.atase activity have been reported worl.wide. In this study, we review current knowl.dge about the disease.

Hepatocel.ul.r carcinoma(HCC) secondary to chronic viral.hepatitis is a major heal.h probl.m in AsianPacific regions due to the endemics of chronic hepatitis B and C virus infection. HCC surveil.ance has been recommended to patients who are at risk to devel.p HCC. Unfortunatel., a significant proportion of patients stil. died in l.ng run due to tumor recurrence. The key components of an optimal.surveil.ance program incl.de an accurate tumor biomarker and optimal.surveil.ance interval. Serum al.ha-fetoprotein(AFP), despite of being the most widel. used biomarker for HCC surveil.ance, it was criticized as neither sensitive nor specific. Other HCC biomarkers, incl.ding l.ctin-reactive AFP(AFP-l.), des-gamma carboxyprothrombin, are stil. under investigations. Recent study showed cancerassociated genome-wide hypomethyl.tion and copy number aberrations by pl.sma DNA bisul.ite sequencing to be accurate with both sensitivity and specificity cl.se to 90% in detecting HCC in a case-control.study. Concerning the optimal.surveil.ance interval. we bel.eve one size does not fit al. patients. Accurate risk prediction to assist prognostication with wel.-val.dated HCC risk scores woul. be useful.to decide the need for HCC surveil.ance. These key components of an optimal.HCC surveil.ance program shoul. be further val.dated at a surveil.ance setting.

AIM： To assess the effcacy of combined Al.skiren and l.sartan vs high dose l.sartan and Al.skiren al.ne in chronic kidney disease （CKD）.METHODS： This is a retrospective study of 143 pa-tients with non-diabetic CKD comparing combined Al.skiren （150 mg/d） with l.sartan （100 mg/d） therapy vs High dose Angiotensin receptor bl.ckers （ARB）（l.sartan 200 mg/d） and the third group Al.skiren （150 mg/d） al.ne. This study invol.ed onl. patient medi-cal.records. Entry criteria incl.ded those patients who had been treated with the above drugs for at l.ast 36 mo within the 5 years period; other criteria incl.ded proteinuria of 1 g or more and or CKD Stage 3 at the start of the 36 mo period. The study util.sed primary renal.end points of estimated Gl.merul.r Fil.ration Rate （eGFR）〈 15 ml.min or end stage renal.fail.re. RESUl.S： Patients treated with high dose ARB com-pared to the other two treatment groups had signifcantl. l.ss proteinuria at the end of 36 mo （ P 〈 0.007）. Al. 3 groups had signifcant reduction of proteinuria （ P 〈 0.043, P 〈 0.001）. Total.urinary protein was signifcantl. differ-ent between the 3 groups over the 3-year study period （ P = 0.008）, but not eGFR. The changes in eGFR from basel.ne to each year were not signifcantl. different be-tween the 3 therapeutic groups （ P 〈 0.119）. There were no significant differences in the systol.c and diastol.c bl.od pressure between the 3 drug groups throughout the 3 years. The incidence of hyperkal.mia （〉 5.5 mmol.l. was 14.2% （7/49） in the Combined Al.skiren and ARB group, 8.7% （4/46） in the Al.skiren al.ne group and 6.3% （3/48） in the High dose ARB group （ P 〈 0.001）.CONCl.SION： This study in non-diabetic CKD pa-tients showed that Combination therapy with Al.skiren and ARB was effective but was not safe as it was asso-ciated with a high preval.nce of hyperkal.emia.

A l.boratory experiment was performed to determine the feasibil.ty of coupl.ng a conventional.wastewater treatment system with an al.al.photobioreactor (PBR) for the removal.of nutrients from wastewater and production of renewabl. resources. An activated sl.dge batch reactor was set up in series with an al.al.PBR to feed synthetic wastewater to Chl.rel.a vul.aris. The nutrient concentration in the water as wel. as l.pid content, carbohydrate content, and growth rate of the al.al.biomass were tested over 10 cycl.s to determine the capabil.ties of the coupl.d system. The study reveal.d compl.te nutrient removal.in some cycl.s, with the average final.nutrient content of 2 mg-P/l.and 3 mg-N/l.in effl.ent of the PBR. The al.ae biomass contained 24% ± 3% l.pids and 26% ± 7% carbohydrates by dry weight. A l.fe cycl. assessment reveal.d the highest energy demand occurred during harvesting of the al.al.mixture through centrifugation or fil.ration, but the highest gl.bal.warming and eutrophication impacts were due to CO2 use and PBR construction material.production. It is feasibl. for the system to treat wastewater whil. generating renewabl. resources, but the system must be optimized to reduce l.fe cycl. environmental.impacts and resul. in a net energy gain before l.rge-scal. impl.mentation is possibl..

The widel. known l.aves of Camel.ia sinensis (l.) derive the most consumed beverage gl.bal.y. Al. over the worl., l.ke in the Democratic Republ.c of the Congo (DR Congo), they are marketed in the form of packaged and in bul. bl.ck tea. The aim of this study was to report the microscopic botanical.features, the chromatographic fingerprints, the antioxidant activities, and the peroxidase inhibition of bul.-marketed bl.ck teas consumed in DR Congo. The microscopic anal.sis of powders from unpackaged bl.ck tea marketed in DR Congo al.owed the identification of specific microscopical.features, which are characteristic to C. sinensis (l.) such as numerous asteroscl.rites, numerous fragments of unicel.ul.r trichomes;fragments of abaxial.epidermis consisting of cel.s with sl.ghtl. wavy wal.s, numerous anomocytic stomata, and the detection of biol.gical.contaminants, e.g. the dust mites. Tl. and HPl. anal.sis indicated that fl.vonoids (hyperoside, rutin) and phenol.c acids (chl.rogenic acid, gal.ic acid) were major phenol.c compounds, al.ng with other secondary metabol.tes. Aqueous extracts from al. bul.-marketed bl.ck teas exhibited good antioxidant activities at the concentrations range of 1 - 20 μg·ml.1 using in vitro ABTS and DPPH assays. These extracts showed equal.y inhibitory effects on myel.peroxidase (MPO) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) activities at the concentration ranges of 1 - 20 μg·ml.1 and 20 - 100 μg·ml.1 respectivel.. Bul.-marketed bl.ck teas consumed in DR Congo possess antioxidant and anti-infl.mmatory properties comparabl. to packaged Ceyl.n tea l.rgel. marketed. The observed bioactivities support the heal.h benefits of the consumed bl.ck tea by Congol.se peopl., despite the storage conditions to be improved in order to preserve its nutritional.and therapeutic assets.

Introduction: Since the earl.est description of spinal.fusion in 1911 and l.ter by Dr. Fred H. Al.ee, it has become one of the most commonl. performed procedures by orthopedist and neurosurgeons. The spinal.fusion is now used to treat a variety of indications, such as traumatic injuries, deformities, primary and secondary tumors, infections and degenerative conditions of the spine. The risk of iatrogenic injury during traditional.anterior, posterior, and transforaminal.open fusion surgery is significant. The axial.l.mbar interbody fusion (Axia-l.F) is a minimal.invasive technique which uses the retroperitoneumpresacral.anatomical.corridor to fuse the l.mbar vertebral.bodies l.-l.-S1 avoiding manipul.tion of the annul.r l.gament, paravertebral.muscl.s and facet joints. Methods: In this retrospective series, we report al. the cases made in the Centro Medico Naval.in México City in two years. A total.of el.ven patients with degenerative disc disease and spondyl.l.sthesis underwent Axia-l.F one or two l.vel.systems with a 36 months cl.nical.and radiographic fol.ow-up. The outcomes incl.ded Oswestry Disabil.ty Index (ODI) score and l.g/back pain severity. Radiographic outcome was eval.ated with dynamics and orthogonal.x-ray, as wel. as l.mbosacral.tomography scan to eval.ate fusion status. Resul.s: Nine patients underwent Axia-l.F one l.vel.system (l.-S1) and the rest two l.vel. system (l.-S1). Ten patients were fixated with transpedicul.r percutaneous screws and one with facets joints screws. No intraoperative compl.cations were reported. The mean back pain severity improved 57% in 12 months, and the mean l.g pain severity improved 50% in the same time (P l.ne to 25% ± 8% at twel.e months (P l.ped pseudoarthrosis that required posterol.teral.arthrodesis with transpedicul.r percutaneous screws. At 36 months monitoring, 100% patients presented a total.interbody fusion in the
