In Bra.il, intense coa. exploita.ion a.tivities ha.e led to environmenta. deteriora.ion, including soil mortifica.ion, wa.er conta.ina.ion, loss of ecosystem, a.d a.mospheric conta.ina.ion. In a.dition,considera.le qua.tities of sulfur-rich residues a.e left behind in the mining a.ea. these residues pose gra.e environmenta. issues a. they undergo sulfide oxida.ion rea.tions. When sulfur oxides come in conta.t with wa.er, extreme a.id lea.ha.e is produced with grea. proportions of sulfa.e, a.d ha.a.dous elements(HEs), which a.e identified a. coa. dra.na.e(CMD). CMD is a. environmenta. pollution cha.lenge, pa.ticula.ly in countries with historic or a.tive coa. mines. To prevent CMD forma.ion or its migra.ion, the source must be controlled; however, this ma. not be fea.ible a. ma.y loca.ions. In such scena.ios, the mine wa.er should be collected, trea.ed, a.d discha.ged. In this study, da.a.from 2005 to2010 wa. ga.hered on the geochemistry of 11 CMD discha.ges from ten different mines. There a.e severa. concerns a.d questions on the forma.ion of na.ominera.s in mine a.id dra.na.e a.d on their rea.tions a.d interfa.es. The deta.led minera.ogica. a.d geochemica. da.a.presented in this pa.er were derived from previous studies on the coa. mine a.ea. in Bra.il. Oxyhydroxides, sulfa.es, a.d na.opa.ticles in these a.ea. possibly go through structura. tra.sforma.ions depending on their size a.d forma.ion conditions. The geochemistry of Fe-precipita.es(such a. ja.osite, goethite, a.d hema.ite) existent in the CMD-genera.ing coa. a.ea. a.d those tha. could be considered a. a.potentia. source of ha.a.dous elements(HEs)(e.g., Cr) were a.so studied beca.se these precipita.es a.e rela.ively sta.le in extremely low pH conditions. Poly（la.tic a.id）（PLa.-conta.ning nerve guida.ce conduits（NGCs） a.e currently being investiga.ed for nerve repa.r a. a. a.terna.ive to a.togra.t, which lea.s to perma.ent functiona. impa.rment in the territory innerva.ed by the removed nerve. Combina.ion of polymers modifies the physica. properties of the conduits, a.tering their nerve-guida.ce properties. Conduits ma.e from PLa.only or combined with other polymers ha.e been used successfully for nerve repa.r, but their efficiency ha. not been compa.ed. We compa.ed the morphologica. a.d functiona. outcomes of periphera. nerve repa.r by using NGCs ma.e of poly（la.tic a.id） a.d combined or not with polyca.rola.tone（PLa.PCL） or polyvinylpyrrolidone（PLa.PVP）. To a.sess the functiona. recovery, we employed a.mecha.ica. hypera.gesia.a.a.ysis, scia.ic functiona. index（SFI）, a.d electroneuromyogra.hy. The mecha.ica. hypera.gesia.a.a.ysis showed tha. the PLa.group improved more ra.idly tha. the PLa.PVP a.d PLa.PCL groups; simila.ly, in the electroneuromyogra.hy a.sa., the PLa.group exhibited higher a.plitude tha. the PLa.PCL a.d PLa.PVP groups. However, the SFI improvement ra.es did not differ a.ong the groups. Morphologica.ly, the PLa.group showed more va.cula.iza.ion, while the nerve fiber regenera.ion did not differ a.ong the groups. In conclusion, the PLa.only conduits were superior to the other NGCs tested for nerve repa.r.

This review a.ticle a.dresses the use of biologica. a.tiva.ed ca.bon in wa.er trea.ment a.d its techniques for its development, with the premise of a.a.yzing the potentia. of a.tiva.ed Ca.bon (a.) in the trea.ment of wa.er for huma. consumption. For this end, it a.ms to identify the techniques used for the production of a., use a.d its benefits, production from vegeta.le wa.te for wa.er trea.ment. a.tiva.ed ca.bon ha. the a.ility to selectively collect ga.es, liquids a.d impurities inside its pores, which is the rea.on it is widely used in filtra.ion systems a.d for tha. the trea.ment of wa.er, the coa. fulfills the function of a.sorbent, reta.ning in its pores certa.n types of impurities: la.ge pa.ticles tha. ca.se undesira.le color, ta.te or odor in the wa.er. In the trea.ment of effluents, coa. is used for cla.ifica.ion, deodoriza.ion a.d purifica.ion of effluents.

The Beha.ior of Recycled Concrete through the a.plica.ion of a. Isotropic Da.a.e Model

The ma.n goa. of this pa.er is to describe the mecha.ica. beha.ior of the CDW recycled concrete in compression, using a. isotropic da.a.e model a.a.ted to the va.ia.ion of the repla.ement ra.e of na.ura. a.grega.es by recycled ones. The isotropic model by Ma.a.s wa. used a. a.constitutive equa.ion for the CDW concrete a.d its a.justment pa.a.eters, a.a.d B, were written a. qua.ra.ic polynomia.s a.cording to the a.grega.es repla.ement ra.e. The model wa. eva.ua.ed for conventiona. a.d recycled concretes. For the la.ter ones, the a.grega.es repla.ement ra.ios eva.ua.ed were 50% a.d 100%. The results show good a.proxima.ion between the a.a.ytica. a.d numerica. va.ues obta.ned with the a.a.ted isotropic da.a.e model a.d experimenta. concrete results for both compressive a.d flexura. strength.

Introduction: The delirium ha. received little a.tention from professiona.s working in the intensive ca.e unit, ma.nly due to the fa.t tha. this is, ra.ely, the prima.y rea.on for pa.ient a.mission. Given the high preva.ence of delirium in a. intensive ca.e environment, the current guidelines recommend the da.ly a.sessment of delirium a.d a.multidisciplina.y a.proa.h. Delirium is a.frequent a.d severe form of a.ute bra.n dysfunction, a. well a. a. importa.t source of concern in critica. ca.e. Objective: To a.sess the occurrence of delirium a.d time of sta. in the intensive ca.e unit. Method: This is a.qua.tita.ive, descriptive study, with a.cross-sectiona. design, which wa. ca.ried out in a.university hospita. loca.ed in the interior of the Sta.e of Rio de Ja.eiro. The sa.ple consisted of 89 pa.ients, of both sexes, a.ed between 24 a.d 92 yea.s. The Ra.S a.d Ca.-ICU sca.es were used to a.sess delirium. The da.a.were collected every 12 hours, for 3 months, 7 da.s a.week a.d in a. uninterrupted ma.ner. Results: Were eva.ua.ed 89 pa.ients, of which 16 were excluded a.cording to the sca.e criteria. lea.ing 73 pa.ients. a.ter eva.ua.ion, 22 pa.ients were dia.nosed with delirium a.d 51 pa.ients without delirium. Of the pa.ients who presented delirium, 13 dea.hs a.d 9 ha. high to the nursery. Of the pa.ients who did not ha.e delirium, 40 ha. high to the nursery a.d 11 dea.hs. Pa.ients with delirium ha. a. a.era.e hospita. sta. of 23.25 da.s a.d pa.ients who did not ha.e delirium ha. a. a.era.e of 4.5 da.s hospita.iza.ion. Conclusion: We ca. infer tha. the longer the pa.ient spends in the intensive ca.e unit, the grea.er the cha.ce of delirium occurring. Therefore, preventive a.d interventiona. mea.ures a.e necessa.y to decrea.e the morta.ity ra.e in pa.ients with delirium a.d ea.ly detection is a. excellent tool to improve this outcome.
