Current progress toward eradicating Helicobacter pylori in East Asian countries: Differences in the 2013 revised guidelines between China, Japan, and South Korea

New 2013 guidelines on Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection have been published in China, Japan, and South Korea. Like the previous ones, these new guidelines differ between the three countries with regard to the indications for H. pylori eradication, diagnostic methods, and treatment regimens. The most profound change among all of the guidelines is that the Japanese national health insurance system now covers the expenses for all infected subjects up to second-line treatment. This makes the Japanese indications for eradication much wider than those in China and South Korea. With regard to the diagnosis, a serum H. pylori antibody test is not recommended in China, whereas it is considered to be the most reliable method in Japan. A decrease relative to the initial antibody titer of more than 50% after 6-12 mo is considered to be the most accurate method for determining successful eradication in Japan. In contrast, only the urea breath test is recommended after eradication in China, while either noninvasive or invasive methods(except the bacterial culture) are recommended in South Korea. Due to the increased rate of antibiotics resistance, first-line treatment is omitted in China and South Korea in cases of clarithromycin resistance. Notably, the Japanese regimen consists of a lower dose of antibiotics for a shorter duration(7 d) than in the other countries. There is neither 14 d nor bismuth-based regimen in the first-line and second-line treatment in Japan. Such differences among countries might be due to differences in the approvals granted by the governments and national health insurance system in each country. Further studies are required to achieve the best results in the diagnosis and treatment of H. pylori infection based on cost-effectiveness in East Asian countries.

A Routing Protocol for Urban Vehicular Multi-hop Data Delivery

Vehicular ad-hoc network(VANET) has distinctive environments such as highly dynamic topology, frequently disconnected network, hard delay constraints for safety-related application, and various communications environments based on highway or urban traffic scenarios. Therefore, development of a suitable routing protocol that considers these characteristics of VANET should be needed. In this paper we propose the improved distance-based VANET routing protocol in urban traffic environments. We apply approaches to multi-hop broadcast scheme for reliable packet dissemination in the intersection and stable route decision scheme based on the adaptive waiting time. The performance is evaluated under simulation which is implemented with the Manhattan urban traffic model. The results show the improved performance as compared with other protocols.

Multiphoton microscopy, relying on the simultaneous absorption of two or more photons by a fluorophore, has come to occupy a prominent place in modern biomedical research with its ability to allow real-time observation of a single cell and molecules in intact tissues. Multiphoton microscopy exhibits nonlinear optical contrast properties, which can make it possible to provide an exceptionally large depth penetration with less phototoxicity. This system becomes more and more an inspiring tool for a non-invasive imaging system to realize "optical biopsy" and to examine the functions of living cells. In this review, we briefly present the physical principles and properties of multiphoton microscopy as well as the current applications in biological fields. In addition, we address what we see as the future potential of multiphoton microscopy for gastroenterologic research.

AIM： To investigate the relationship between the inhibited growth （cytotoxic activity） of berberine and apoptotic pathway with its molecular mechanism of action. METHODS： The in vitro cytotoxic techniques were complemented by cell cycle analysis and determination of sub-G1 for apoptosis in human gastric carcinoma SNU-5 cells. Percentage of viable cells, cell cycle, and sub431 group （apoptosis） were examined and determined by the flow cytometric methods. The associated proteins for cell cycle arrest and apoptosis were examined by Western blotting. RESULTS： For SNU-5 cell line, the IC （50） was found to be 48 μmol/L of berberine. In SNU-5 cells treated with 25-200 μmol/L berberine, G2/M cell cycle arrest was observed which was associated with a marked increment of the expression of p53, Wee1 and CDk1 proteins and decreased cyclin B. A concentration-dependent decrease of cells in G0/G1 phase and an increase in G2/M phase were detected. In addition, apoptosis detected as sub-Go cell population in cell cycle measurement was proved in 25-200 μmol/L berberine-treated cells by monitoring the apoptotic pathway. Apoptosis was identified by sub-Go cell population, and upregulation of Bax, downregulation of Bcl-2, release of Ca^2＋, decreased the mitochondrial membrane potential and then led to the release of mitochondrial cytochrome C into the cytoplasm and caused the activation of caspase-3, and finally led to the occurrence of apoptosis. CONCLUSION： Berberine induces p53 expression and leads to the decrease of the mitochondrial membrane potential, Cytochrome C release and activation of caspase-3 for the induction of apoptosis.

In the past few years,triboelectric nanogenerator-based(TENG-based)hybrid generators and systems have experienced a widespread and flourishing development,ranging among almost every aspect of our lives,e.g.,from industry to consumer,outdoor to indoor,and wearable to implantable *** TENG technology has been extensively investigated for mechanical energy harvesting,most developed TENGs still have limitations of small output current,unstable power generation,and low energy utilization rate of multisource *** harvest the ubiquitous/coexisted energy forms including mechanical,thermal,and solar energy simultaneously,a promising direction is to integrate TENG with other transducing mechanisms,e.g.,electromagnetic generator,piezoelectric nanogenerator,pyroelectric nanogenerator,thermoelectric generator,and solar cell,forming the hybrid generator for synergetic single-source and multisource energy *** resultant TENG-based hybrid generators utilizing integrated transducing mechanisms are able to compensate for the shortcomings of each mechanism and overcome the above limitations,toward achieving a maximum,reliable,and stable output ***,in this review,we systematically introduce the key technologies of the TENG-based hybrid generators and hybridized systems,in the aspects of operation principles,structure designs,optimization strategies,power management,and system *** recent progress of TENG-based hybrid generators and hybridized systems for the outdoor,indoor,wearable,and implantable applications is also ***,we discuss our perspectives on the future development trend of hybrid generators and hybridized systems in environmental monitoring,human activity sensation,human-machine interaction,smart home,healthcare,wearables,implants,robotics,Internet of things(IoT),and many other fields.
