Past studies reveal the prevalence of anxiety,coupled with low motivation and disengagement among students in English-medium instruction(EMI)*** the detrimental impact these negative emotions can have on learning outcomes,it is imperative that teachers establish positive emotional rapport with their *** study explores how experienced and highly rated EMI lecturers at a Chinese university’s overseas campus use communication strategies to build rapport with their students during interactive academic *** identifies the strategies used by these lecturers and examines how the strategies facilitate the teaching-learning *** data,consisting of 10 hours of tutorials and 10 hours of supervisor-student supervision meetings,is analyzed using an adapted Conversation Analysis(CA)*** analysis reveals three types of communication strategies(Css)frequently used by lecturers:back-channeling,codeswitching,and co-creation of *** employing these strategies,the lecturers established a strong rapport with the students,which created an encouraging and supportive learning ***,this positive atmosphere facilitated students’learning of content knowledge through *** findings of this study have implications for the training of lecturers who encounter difficulties in establishing rapport with multilingual students in the EMI setting.

Thin films of Ag-doped Cdse are deposited on the glass substrates by thermal evaporation technique using inert gas condensation method. The elemental composition of the prepared thin film is confirmed by EDX spectra. sEM analysis reveals the uniform distribution of the grains over the substrate. TEM analysis reveals the spherical nature of nanoparticles having size in the range of 25-30 nm. X-ray diffraction study indicates an increase in the grain size after thermal annealing and the decrease in the grain size after light soaking treatment. Transmittance spectra are found to decrease with corre- sponding red shift after annealing and light soaking of as-deposited thin films. The value of the band gap is found to decreases and refractive index increases, after annealing and light soaking treatment. The dispersion of refractive index is described using the Wemple-DiDomenico single oscillator model and the effects of the annealing and the light soaking on the dispersion parameters are studied. The dark conductivity is found to change from 2.24 × 10^-8 to 1.54 × 10^-7 and 1.45 ×10^-9 Ω-1 cm-1 after annealing and light soaking of thin films, respectively. Hall effect measurement reveals n-type behavior of as-deposited, annealed and light-soaked thin films.

Thin films of Cdse and silver(Ag)-doped Cdse have been prepared on glass substrates by thermal evaporation in argon gas atmosphere. X-ray diffraction pattern indicates the presence of hexagonal structure with preferred orientation along (100) plane. Elemental composition of the thin films has been analyzed using energy dispersive X-ray analysis. scanning electron microscopy has been used to investigate the morphology of the thin films. Transmission electron microscope reveals spherical nature of nanoparticles. A decrease in the band gap due to the formation of band tails in the band gap with increase in Ag doping in Cdse lattice has been observed. Photoluminescence spectra indicate redshift in band edge emission peak with increase in Ag doping in Cdse. Electrical conductivity measurements are also studied, and two types of conduction mechanisms taking part in the transport phenomena are observed. Hall measurements indicate n-type behavior of undoped and Ag-doped Cdse thin films.

Objective Bioremediation technology has gained importance because microbes could be the convenient source of bio-absorption/bioaccumulation of metals from effluent streams. Methods The nickel-resistant bacterial isolates （NiRBI） were selected from various bacterial isolates from industrial effluent and grown in nutrient broth containing different concentrations of nickel sulfate （0.3-3.0 mmol/L） and their capability of accumulating metal from the medium. Results Well-defined growth of NiRBI was observed in the medium containing up to 2.5 mmol/L of nickel. The isolate was identified using 16s rRNA and closely related to Pseudomonas fragi. Maximum accumulation of nickel （0.59 mg/g dry weight of bacterial cells） was observed when NiRBI was grown in media containing 2 mmol/L of nickel. The protein profile of the NiRBI cellular extract by sDs-PAGE showed two metal stress-induced proteins of molecular weight 48 KD and 18 KD with a simultaneous down regulation of four proteins of 46.7 KD, 42.2 KD, 19.7 KD, and 4.0 KD. Conclusion 48 KD and 18 KD proteins play a role in metal resistance mechanism by NiRBI.

To estimate the required support pressure for stability of circular tunnels in two layered clay under undrained condition,numerical solutions are developed by performing finite element lower bound limit analysis in conjunction with second-order cone *** support system is assumed to offer uniform internal compressive pressure on its *** the literature,it is known that the stability of tunnels depends on the overburden pressure acting over it,which is a function of undrained cohesion and unit weight of soil,and cover of *** a tunnel is constructed in layered undrained clay,the stability depends on the undrained shear strength,unit weight,and thickness of one layer relative to the other *** the present study,the solutions are presented in a form of dimensionless charts which can be used for design of tunnel support systems for different combinations of ratios of unit weight and undrained shear strength of upper layer to those of lower layer,thickness of both layers,and total soil cover depth.

Rutting is the major distress mode in flexible pavements occurring due to the repeated movement of traffic loading. Deformation in the pavements comprise of both recoverable(elastic) and irrecoverable(plastic) part. Overall deformation occurring in the flexible pavement system due to continuous vehicular movement is contributed from all the components of pavement. A number of empirical models have been proposed by several researchers for analysis and prediction of accumulated rutting in different components of pavement. The accumulated permanent strain has been expressed as the function of the number of load applications and deviator stress applications in most of the models proposed;however, factors such as stress state, moisture content, material type and environmental conditions also impose a significant influence on the permanent deformation characteristics of pavement materials under cyclic loading. In this article, a comprehensive review has been carried out covering every aspect of deformation related to distress occurring in pavements. Important rut models, modeling approaches and modern concepts in the rutting analysis of pavement structures have been presented. In addition to review, fallacy existing in the current design practices related to adaptation of stiffness parameters and negligence of shear strength aspect of subgrade soil has been also presented with the support of literatures.

We consider spatially homogeneous and anisotropic Bianchi type V space- time with a bulk viscous fluid source, and time varying gravitational constant G and cosmological term A. The coefficient of bulk viscosity ζ is assumed to be a simple linear function of the Hubble parameter H （i.e. ζ = ζ0 ＋ ζ1H, where ζ0 and ζ1 are constants）. The Einstein field equations are solved explicitly by using a law of varia- tion for the Hubble parameter, which yields a constant value of the deceleration pa- rameter. Physical and kinematical parameters of the models are discussed. The models are found to be compatible with the results of astronomical observations.
