We consider a class of n-dimensional Pompeiu equations and that of Pexider equations and their Hyers Ulam stability problems in the spaces of Schwartz distributions. First, reducing the given distribution version of functional equations to differential equations we find their solutions. Secondly, using approximate identities we prove the Hyers Ulam stability of the equations.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the optimal timing and underlying mechanism of electroacupuncture(EA)at Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14)for improved long-term functional recovery after focal cerebral ischemia in a photothrombotic stroke mouse ***:Totally 50 adult male C57 BL/6 J mice were assigned into 5 groups:(a)the control group,sham-operated mice(n=10);(b)the vehicle group,focal cerebral ischemia induction without EA(n=10);(c)the acute EA group,mice received EA immediately post-ischemia,followed by once-daily treatments for 7 consecutive days(n=10);(d)the subacute EA group,mice received EA 4 days post-ischemia,followed by once-daily treatments for 7 consecutive days(n=10);(e)the delayed EA *** stimulation(2 Hz,2 V for 20 min)was applied to acupuncture points(acupoints),Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14),once a day for 7 consecutive days beginning immediately(acute treatment),4 d(subacute treatment)and 10 d(delayed treatment)after focal cerebral ischemia in C57 BL/6 J *** assessments were conducted 21 and 28 d post-ischemia and histopathological analyses were performed 28 days ***:The subacute EA treatment at Baihui(GV20)and Dazhui(GV 14)significantly improved functional recovery compared to the vehicle group 28 d after ischemic brain injury,although brain atrophy was not *** number of Neu N+and Neu N+/Brd U+cells as well as GFAP intensity in the ipsilateral cortex were significantly increased in the subacute group compared to the vehicle group 28 d *** concluded that EA stimulation 4 d post-ischemia(subacute treatment)enhanced neurogenesis and astrogliosis,likely contributing to long-term functional recovery following focal cerebral ***:Our findings suggest that the timing of the EA therapy at Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14)determines the therapeutic effects in mice with focal cerebral ischemia induced by photothrombotic occlusion.

Relationships between Pathological Patterns and Vocal Qualities Estimated by Acoustic Parameters

Objective： To examine whether vocal characteristics estimated by acoustic parameters were associated with phlegm, yin deficiency, or cold-heat patterns. Methods： A total of 75 college students （males：females = 53：22） aged 19-24 years were enrolled in this study. Each subject was asked to complete the phlegm pattern questionnaire （PPQ）, yin deficiency questionnaire （YDQ） and cold-heat questionnaire （CHQ）. For the acoustic analysis, each subject was asked to produce a sustained vowel sound （/a/） for 3 s to be used to calculate acoustic parameters. Then, habitual fundamental frequency （F0）, jitter, shimmer, F0 tremor, mean F0, standard deviation of F0, maximum F0, minimum F0, normalized noise energy, harmonic-to-noise ratio, signal-to-noise ratio, amplitude tremor, and power ratio were calculated using the Dr. Speech software. Finally, four hierarchical regression models with pattern questionnaire scores as dependent variables were formed to examine which factors among acoustic parameters, sex, and age were predictive of those pattern scores. Results： PPQ, YDQ, heat, and cold pattern scores all formed significant regression model equations and the adjusted R2 values were 0.281, 0.164, 0.156, and 0.170, respectively. There were aging effects in the PPQ and YDQ models （standardized β =0.199, 0.271, respectively）. Vocal tremor-related Fo tremor and vocal ringing-related power ratio parameters were associated with PPQ and YDQ scores. Gender was directly predictive of PPQ and indirectly moderated the relationship between power ratio and YDQ score. Vocal pitch- related habitual F0 and mean F0 were associated with heat and cold scores. These results indicate that the vocal qualities of phlegm- and yin deficiency-susceptible subjects tend to be ringing and less tremorous, and those of heat- and cold-susceptible subjects tend to be high-pitched. BACKGROUND The role of multidetector computed tomography(MDCT)in patients with acute infectious colitis is still *** To examine the usefulness of MDCT in distinguishing the etiology of acute infectious *** Overall,244 patients who met the criteria for acute infectious colitis and visited the Hospital from February 2015 to 2018 were retrospectively enrolled and divided into two groups(bacterial:204,viral:40)according to causes of acute colitis,based on stool *** MDCT parameters,including wall thickening,submucosal edema,mucosal enhancement,serosa involvement,empty colon sign,small bowel involvement,comb sign,continuous distribution,accordion sign,mucosal thickening,and lymph node enlargement,were constructed in a blinded *** MDCT parameters of wall thickening(OR:13.60;95%CI:5.80–31.88;P<0.001),submucosal edema(OR:36.08;95%CI:13.54–96.13;P<0.001),mucosal enhancement(OR:22.55;95%CI:9.28–54.81;P<0.001),serosal involvement(OR:14.50;95%CI:3.33–63.23;P<0.001),empty colon sign(OR:6.68;95%CI: 2.44–18.32;P < 0.001), continuous distribution (OR: 24.09;95%CI: 9.38–61.90;P < 0.001), accordionsign (OR: 9.02;95%CI: 1.12–72.35;P = 0.038), mucosal thickening (OR: 46.41;95%CI: 10.38–207.51;P< 0.001), and lymph node enlargement (OR: 4.39;95%CI: 1.22–15.72;P = 0.023) were significantlyassociated with bacterial colitis. At least one positive finding in four CT outcomes (submucosaledema, mucosal enhancement, continuous distribution, mucosal thickening) in summer showed ahigh probability of bacterial colitis (sensitivity, 41.67;specificity, 92.50;OR: 24.95).CONCLUSIONMDCT provides many clues that can be useful in suggesting a specific etiology of acute infectiouscolitis.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) of swine manure (SM) commonly shows low biogas output and unsatisfactory economic performance. In this study, thermophilic AD (TAD, 50±1℃) was combined with thermal hydrolysis pretreatment (THP, 170℃/10 bar), to investigate its potential for maximizing biogas yield, securing successful digestion and microbial diversity, as well as improving energy balance. Four lab-scale continuously stirred tank reactors were operated for 300 days and compared with each other, i.e., reactor 1 (raw SM fed in mesophilic AD:RSM-MAD), reactor 2 (THP-treated SM fed in MAD:TSM-MAD), reactor 3 (RSM-TAD),and reactor 4 (TSM-TAD). The results showed that THP was efficient to increase methane production of SM, TSM-TAD mode led to the highest methane yield (129.8±40.5 mL-CH_(4)/gVS/day) among the tests (p 700 mg/L) or volatile fatty acids (> 6000 mg/L) accumulation compared with MAD in start-up phase, TSM-TAD treatment mode behaved a sustainable digestion process in a long-term operation. For TSM-TAD scenario, higher Shannon–Weaver (3.873) and lower Simpson index (0.061) indicated this mode ensured and enlarged the diversity of bacteria communities. Phylum Bathyarchaeota was dominant (59.3%-90.0%) in archaea community,followed by Euryarchaeota in the four reactors. RSM-MAD treatment mode achieved the highest energy output (4.65 GJ/day), TSM-TAD was less effective (-17.38 GJ/day) due to increased energy demands. Thus improving the energetic efficiency of THP units is recommended for the development of TSM-TAD treatment mode.

Transgenesis and genome editing in birds are based on a unique germline transmission system using primordial germ cells(PGCs), which is quite different from the mammalian transgenic and genome editing system. PGCs are progenitor cells of gametes that can deliver genetic information to the next generation. Since avian PGCs were first discovered in nineteenth century, there have been numerous efforts to reveal their origin, specification, and unique migration pattern, and to improve germline transmission efficiency. Recent advances in the isolation and in vitro culture of avian PGCs with genetic manipulation and genome editing tools enable the development of valuable avian models that were unavailable before. However, many challenges remain in the production of transgenic and genome-edited birds,including the precise control of germline transmission, introduction of exogenous genes, and genome editing in ***, establishing reliable germline-competent PGCs and applying precise genome editing systems are critical current issues in the production of avian models. Here, we introduce a historical overview of avian PGCs and their application, including improved techniques and methodologies in the production of transgenic and genome-edited birds, and we discuss the future potential applications of transgenic and genome-edited birds to provide opportunities and benefits for humans.

Diurnal Variation of Tropical Convection during TOGA COARE IOP

Diurnal variation of tropical convection and kinematic and thermodynamic conditions was investigated for different large-scale environments of the convectively active and inactive periods by using satellite observations and surface measurements during the Intensive Observation Period （IOP） of the Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere/Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Response Experiment （TOGA/COARE）. During the convectively active period, the features of nocturnal convection appear in vertical profiles of convergence, vertical velocity, heat source, and moisture sink. The specific humidity increases remarkably in the middle troposphere at dawn. On the other hand, the altitude of maximum convergence and that of the upward motion is lower during the convectively inactive period. The specific humidity peaks in the lower troposphere in the daytime and decreases in the middle troposphere. Spectral analyses of the time series of the infrared （IR） brightness temperature （TBB） and amounts of rainfall suggest multiscale temporal variation with a prominent diurnal cycle over land and oceanic regions such as the Intensive Flux Array （IFA） and the South Pacific Convergence Zone （SPCZ）. Over land, the daily maximum of deep convection associated with cloud top temperature less than 208 K appears at midnight due to the daytime radiative heating and the sea-land breeze. Over the ocean, convection usually tends to occur at dawn for the convectively active period while in the afternoon during the inactive period. Comparing the diurnal variation of convection with large-scale variables, the authors inferred that moisture in the middle troposphere contributes mostly to the development of nocturnal convection over the ocean during the convectively active period.
