Isolation, identification, Pb(Ⅱ) biosorption isotherms and kinetics of a lead adsorbing Penicillium sp. MRF-1 from South Korean mine soil

A heavy metal contaminated soil sample collected from a mine in Chonnam Province of South Korea was found to be a source of heavy metal adsorbing biosorbents. Chemical analyses showed high contents of lead （Pb） at 357 mg/kg and cyanide （CN） at 14.6 mg/kg in the soil. The experimental results showed that Penicillium sp. MRF-1 was the best lead resistant fungus among the four individual metal tolerant fungal species isolated from the soil. Molecular characterization of Penicillium sp. MRF-1 was determined using ITS regions sequences. Effects of pH, temperature and contact time on adsorption of Pb（Ⅱ） by Penicillium sp. MRF-1 were studied. Favorable conditions for maximum biosportion were found at pH 4 with 3 hr contact time. Biosorption of Pb（Ⅱ） gradually increased with increasing temperature. Efficient performance of the biosorbent was described using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Adsorption kinetics was studied using pseudo first-order and pseudo second-order models. Biosorbent Penicillium sp. MRF-1 showed the maximum desorption in alkali conditions. Consistent adsorption/desorption potential of the biosorbent in repetitive cycles validated the efficacy of it in large scale. SEM studies given notes on surface modification of fungal biomass under metal stress and FT-IR results showed the presence of amino groups in the surface structure of the biosorbent. In conclusion, the new biosorbent Penicillium sp. MRF- 1 may potentially be used as an inexpensive, easily cultivatable material for the removal of lead from aqueous solution.

Die Casting Mold Design of the Thin-walled Aluminum Case by Computational Solidification Simulation

Recently, demand for the lightweight alloy in electric/electronic housings has been greatly increased. However, among the lightweight alloys, aluminum alloy thin-walled die casting is problematic because it is quite difficult to achieve sufficient fluidity and feedability to fill the thin cavity as the wall thickness becomes less than 1mm. Therefore, in this study, thin-walled die casting of aluminum （Al-Si-Cu alloy： ALDC 12） in size of notebook computer housing and thickness of 0.8 mm was investigated by solidification simulation （MAGMA soft） and actual casting experiment （Buhler Evolution B 53D）. Three different types of gating design, finger, tangential and split type with 6 vertical runners, were simulated and the results showed that sound thin-walled die casting was possible with tangential and split type gating design because those gates allowed aluminum melt to flow into the thin cavity uniformly and split type gating system was preferable gating design comparing to tangential type gating system at the point of view of soundness of casting and distortion generated after solidification. Also, the solidification simulation agreed well with the actual die-casting and the casting showed no casting defects and distortion.

Selexipag as Add-on Therapy for Patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Associated with Congenital Heart Disease:A Single-Center Retrospective Study

Purpose:This study examined the efficacy and safety of selexipag in treating pulmonary arterial hypertension(PAH)associated with congenital heart disease(CHD).Materials and Methods:We conducted a retrospective study of patients with CHD-associated PAH,treated with selexipag since December *** adult patients(mean age,45.4 years;women,77%)were treated with selexipag as add-on *** characteristics,World Health Organization functional class,6-minute walking distance(6MWD)test results,N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels,echocardiographic data,and incidence of side effects were ***:The majority of patients(12/13,92.3%)experienced more than one treatment-associated complication;one patient dropped out of the study due to intolerable *** results of 6MWD test(from 299.2±56.2 m to 363.8±86.5 m,p=0.039)and tricuspid regurgitation(TR)pressure gradient(from 84.7±20.5 mmHg to 61.6±24.0 mmHg,p=0.018)improved and remained improved after selexipag treatment in 12 *** on the results of a non-invasive risk assessment,8(66.7%)patients showed improvement,3(25.0%)showed no interval change,and the status of one patient(8.3%)***,compared to patients treated with a low dosage,patients treated with a medium-to-high dosage showed a greater increase in 6MWD results(88.3±26.4 m vs.55.3±27.6 m,p=0.043)and a greater reduction in the TR pressure gradient(-33.7±10.9 mmHg vs.-12.5±12.0 mmHg,p=0.015).Conclusion:Selexipag is an efficient pulmonary vasodilator as add-on therapy in treating CHD-associated PAH.

The low-temperature physical vapor deposition process of atomically thin two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide(2D TMD) has been gaining attention owing to the cost-effective production of diverse electrochemical catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) applications. We, herein, propose a simple route toward the cost-effective physical vapor deposition process of 2D WSe2 layered nanofilms as HER electrochemical catalysts using RF magnetron sputtering at room temperature(<27℃). By controlling the variable sputtering parameters, such as RF power and deposition time, the loading amount and electrochemical surface area(ECSA) of WSe2 films deposited on carbon paper can be carefully determined. The surface of the sputtered WSe2 films are partially oxidized, which may cause spherical-shaped particles. Regardless of the loading amount of WSe2, Tafel slopes of WSe2 electrodes in the HER test are narrowly distributed to be ~120–138 mV dec-1, which indicates the excellent reproducibility of intrinsic catalytic activity. By considering the trade-off between the loading amount and ECSA, the best HER performance is clearly observed in the 200 W-15 min sample with an overpotential of 220 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm-2. Such a simple sputtering method at low temperature can be easily expanded to other 2D TMD electrochemical catalysts, promising potentially practical electrocatalysts.

BACKGROUND The role of multidetector computed tomography(MDCT)in patients with acute infectious colitis is still *** To examine the usefulness of MDCT in distinguishing the etiology of acute infectious *** Overall,244 patients who met the criteria for acute infectious colitis and visited the Hospital from February 2015 to 2018 were retrospectively enrolled and divided into two groups(bacterial:204,viral:40)according to causes of acute colitis,based on stool *** MDCT parameters,including wall thickening,submucosal edema,mucosal enhancement,serosa involvement,empty colon sign,small bowel involvement,comb sign,continuous distribution,accordion sign,mucosal thickening,and lymph node enlargement,were constructed in a blinded *** MDCT parameters of wall thickening(OR:13.60;95%CI:5.80–31.88;P<0.001),submucosal edema(OR:36.08;95%CI:13.54–96.13;P<0.001),mucosal enhancement(OR:22.55;95%CI:9.28–54.81;P<0.001),serosal involvement(OR:14.50;95%CI:3.33–63.23;P<0.001),empty colon sign(OR:6.68;95%CI: 2.44–18.32;P < 0.001), continuous distribution (OR: 24.09;95%CI: 9.38–61.90;P < 0.001), accordionsign (OR: 9.02;95%CI: 1.12–72.35;P = 0.038), mucosal thickening (OR: 46.41;95%CI: 10.38–207.51;P< 0.001), and lymph node enlargement (OR: 4.39;95%CI: 1.22–15.72;P = 0.023) were significantlyassociated with bacterial colitis. At least one positive finding in four CT outcomes (submucosaledema, mucosal enhancement, continuous distribution, mucosal thickening) in summer showed ahigh probability of bacterial colitis (sensitivity, 41.67;specificity, 92.50;OR: 24.95).CONCLUSIONMDCT provides many clues that can be useful in suggesting a specific etiology of acute infectiouscolitis.

Effect of DA-9701 on gastric emptying in a mouse model: Assessment by ^(13)C-octanoic acid breath test

AIM:To evaluate the effects of DA-9701 on the gastric emptying of a solid meal using the 13C-octanoic acid breath test in a mouse model. METHODS:Male C57BL/6 mice aged > 8 wk and with body weights of 20-25 g were used in this study. The solid test meal consisted of 200 mg of egg yolk labeled with 1.5 L/g 13C-octanoic acid. The mice were placed in a 130 mL chamber flushed with air at a flow speed of 200 mL/min. Breath samples were collected for 6 h. The half-emptying time and lag phase were calculated using a modified power exponential model. To assess the reproducibility of the 13C-octanoic acid breath test, the breath test was performed two times at intervals of one week in ten mice without drug treatment. To assess the gastrokinetic effects of DA-9701, the breath test was performed three times in another twelve mice, with a randomized crossover sequence of three drug treatments:DA-9701 3 mg/kg, erythromycin 6 mg/kg, or saline. Each breath test was performed at an interval of one week. RESULTS:Repeatedly measured half gastric emptying time of ten mice without drug treatment showed 0.856 of the intraclass correlation coefficient for the half gastric emptying time (P = 0.004). The mean cumulative excretion curve for the 13C-octanoic acid breath test showed accelerated gastric emptying after DA-9701 treatment compared with the saline control (P = 0.028). The median half gastric emptying time after the DA-9701 treatment was significantly shorter than after the saline treatment [122.4 min (109.0-137.9 min) vs 134.5 min (128.4-167.0 min), respectively; P = 0.028] and similar to that after the erythromycin treatment [123.3 min (112.9-138.2 min)]. The lag phase, which was defined as the period taken to empty 15% of a meal, was significantly shorter after the DA-9701 treatment than after the saline treatment [48.1 min (44.6-57.1 min) vs 52.6 min (49.45-57.4 min), respectively; P = 0.049]. In this work,we have prepared the hierarchically nanostructured core–shell NiCo layered double hydroxide(NiCo-LDH)nanosheets-and ZnFe_(2)O_(4) nanocubes-decorated polyacrylonitrile(PAN)/pitch-based carbon nanofibers(PPCNs)webs(NiCo-LDH@PPCNs as cathode and ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@PPCNs as anode materials)with the bonded network structure by a facile and scalable hydrothemal ***,the low-cost pitch with lower softening point(~90℃)as co-precursor was utilized to produce the PAN/pitch-based carbon nanofibers(PPCNs)with enhanced electrical *** obtained PPCNs with pitch content of 30%(PP30CNs)electrode material delivered higher specific capacitance(~67 F g^(-1))than that(~48 F g^(-1))of the PAN-based carbon nanofibers(PCNs)at 1 A g^(-1),due to the increased electrical conductivity and lower interfacial charge transfer resistance(RCT)of~0.16 ***,the NiCo-LDH-decorated PP30CNs(NiCoLDH@PP30CNs)as cathode material showed superior specific capacitance of 1162 F g^(-1) at 1.0 A g^(-1) and ultra-high retention rate of 91.56%at 10 A g^(-1).The ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@PP30CNs as anode material also showed higher specific capacitance of 282 F g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1) and good rate capability with capacitance retention of 56.73%at 10 A g^(-1).The as-fabricated asymmetric NiCo-LDH@PP30CNs//ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@PP30CNs hybrid supercapacitor device delivered a specific capacitance of~98 F g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1) and excellent capacitance retention of~88%after 5000 charge–discharge cycles.

The effect of ultraviolet-ozone(UVO)irradiation on amorphous(am)SnO_(2) and its impact on the photoconversion efficiency of MAPbI3-based perovskite solar cells were investigated in *** treatment was found to increase the amount of chemisorbed oxygen on the am-SnO_(2) surface,reducing the surface energy and contact *** changes in the am-SnO_(2) surface lowered the Gibbs free energy for the densification of perovskite films and facilitated the formation of homogeneous perovskite *** addition,the Fermi energy of the UVO-treated am-SnO_(2) shifted upwards to achieve an ideal band offset for MAPbI3,which was verified by theoretical calculations based on the density functional *** achieved a champion efficiency of 19.01% with a statistical reproducibility of 17.01±1.34% owing to improved perovskite film densification and enhanced charge transport/extraction,which is considerably higher than the 13.78±2.15% of the ***,UVO-treated,am-SnO_(2)-based devices showed improved stability and less hysteresis,which is encouraging for the future application of up-scaled perovskite solar cells.
