Lithium–sulfur batteries(LSBs)are regarded as promising candidates for the next-generation energy storage devices owing to their high-theoretical capacity(1675 mAh g^(−1))and affordable ***,several limitations of LSBs such as the lithium polysulfide shuttle,large volume expansion,and low electrical conductivity of sulfur need to be resolved for practical *** address these limitations,herein,a multidimensional architectured hybrid(Co@CNT/nG),where Co_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles are encapsulated into threedimensional(3D)porous N-doped reduced graphene oxide interconnected with carbon nanotube(CNT)branches,is synthesized through a simple pyrolysis *** synergistic effect achieved through the homogeneously distributed and encapsulated Co_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles,the interconnected CNT branches,and the 3D hierarchical porous structure and N-doping of Co@CNT/nG significantly suppresses the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides and enhances the conversion redox kinetics for the improved sulfur *** validate this effect through various measurements including symmetric cells,Li_(2)S nucleation,shuttle currents,Tafel slopes,diffusion coefficients,and post-mortem ***,Co@CNT/nG-70S-based LSB cells achieve a high-specific capacity of 1193.1 mAh g^(−1) at 0.1 C and a low capacity decay rate of 0.030%per cycle for 700 cycles at 5 C,delivering a high areal capacity of 5.62 mAh cm^(−2) even with a loading of 6.5 mg cm^(−2).

Finger compartment syndrome due to a high-pressure washer injury:A case report

BACKGROUND Although the finger compartment syndrome is not common,it compresses the neurovascular bundles in a limited space and blocks blood flow to the fingers,causing necrosis of the *** fasciotomy through unilateral or bilateral midline release of the finger can achieve decompression of the finger ***,we report a case of the compartment syndrome in a finger injury caused by a high-pressure water flow which is commonly used in car washing *** SUMMARY A 60-year-old man injured his right middle finger while using a high-pressure washer at a car washing *** patient complained of severe pain in his middle finger and a 0.2 cm punctured open wound on the volar side of the distal phalangeal joint of the middle *** fingertip was pale,numb,and characterized by severe swelling and a limited range of *** radiography showed that there was no fracture in the *** decompression was performed through finger fasciotomy by bilateral midline *** the second day after surgery,the color of the fingertip returned to pink,swelling was resolved,and the range of motion returned to *** sensation of the fingertip was completely restored,and the capillary refill test and pinprick test were *** The fingertip compartment syndrome can be caused by a high-pressure water flow damage to the fingers when using high-pressure washers at a car washing *** avoid finger necrosis,rapid diagnosis of the finger compartment syndrome and appropriate digital decompression are essential to better outcome.

Upper gastrointestinal bleeding from duodenal vascular ectasia in a patient with cirrhosis

We report a cirrhotic patient with duodenal vascular ectasia and spontaneous bleeding. The bleeding was successfully controlled with argon plasma coagulation. Duodenal vascular ectasia may be a cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with cirrhosis, and argon plasma coagulation may be effective and safe to achieve hemostasis of this lesion.

Optimization of post-warranty sequential inspection for second-hand products

This paper considers an optimal sequential inspection schedule for a second-hand product after that the free nonrenewable warranty is expired. The length of warranty is prespecified and during the warranty period, the product is minimally repaired by the dealer when it fails. Following the expiration of the non-renewing warranty, the product is inspected and upgraded sequentially a fixed number of times at the expenses of the *** each inspection, the failure rate of the product is reduced proportionally so that the product is upgraded. The product is assumed to deteriorate as it ages and the replacement of the product occurs when a fixed number of inspections are rendered. In addition,the intervals between two successive inspections are assumed to decrease monotonically. The main objective of this paper is to determine the optimal improvement level to upgrade the product at each inspection so that the expected maintenance cost during the life cycle of the product is minimized from the perspective of the customer. Under the given cost structures, we derive an explicit formula to obtain the expected maintenance cost incurred during the life cycle of the product and discuss the method to find the optimal level of the improvement analytically in case the failure times follow the Weibull distribution. Numerical results are analyzed to observe the impact of relevant parameters on the optimal solution.

Antiviral efficacy of adefovir dipivoxil versus lamivudine in patients with chronic hepatitis B sequentially treated with lamivudine and adefovir due to lamivudine resistance

AIM： To compare the antiviral efficacy of adefovir （ADV） in lamivudine （LMV）-resistant patients with LMV treatment in nucleoside-naive patients, using serum samples collected sequentially during the course of treatment progressing from LMV to ADV.METhoDS： Forty-four patients with chronic hepatitis B （CHB） were included. The patients were initially treated with LMV and then switched to ADV when LMV resistance developed. Antiviral efficacy was assessed by measuring the following： reduction in serum HBV DNA from baseline, HBV DNA negative conversion （defined as HBV DNA being undectable by the hybridization assay）, and HBV DNA response （either HBV DNA level ≤ 10^s copies/mL or a ≥ 2 log10 reduction from baseline HBV DNA level）.RESULTS： After two and six months of treatment, HBV DNA reduction was greater with LMV compared to ADV treatment （P = 0.021）. HBV DNA negative conversion rates were 64% and 27% after one month of LMV and ADV treatment respectively （P = 0.001）. Similarly, HBV DNA response rates were 74% and 51% after two months of LMV and ADV treatment respectively （P = 0.026）. The time taken to HBV DNA negative conversion and to HBV DNA response were both delayed in ADV treatment compared with LMV.CONCLUSION： The antiviral efficacy of ADV in LMV-resistant patients is slower and less potent than that with LMV in nucleoside-naive patients during the early course of treatment.

Survival analysis based on human epidermal growth factor 2 status in stage Ⅱ-Ⅲ gastric cancer

AIM To investigate human epidermal growth factor 2(HER2) overexpression and validate its prognostic effect in stage Ⅱ-Ⅲ gastric *** We reviewed the data of patients who were diagnosed with gastric cancer between March 2008 and October 2013 at the Yonsei University Medical Center. Among these patients, 384 patients who met the inclusion criteria were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS Thirty-two(8.3%) of the 384 stage Ⅱ-Ⅲ gastric cancer patients exhibited HER2 overexpression. The median follow-up duration was 26.0 mo. HER2-negative patients had superior recurrence-free survival(RFS) compared to HER2-positive patients(HR = 0.52, 95%CI: 0.30-0.89; P = 0.015). The median overall survival(OS) was significantly prolonged in the HER2-negative group compared with the HER2-positive group(55.0 mo vs 38.0 mo, HR = 0.43, 95%CI: 0.21-0.88, P = 0.021). OS was also prolonged in HER2-negative patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy compared to HER2-positive patients(55.0 vs 38.0mo, HR = 0.42, 95%CI: 0.18-1.00, P = 0.051). In patients who did not receive adjuvant chemotherapy,the median RFS was prolonged in the HER2-negative group compared to the HER2-positive group(not reached vs 12.0 mo, HR = 0.17, 95%CI: 0.06-0.49, P= 0.001). In a multivariate analysis, HER2 status(HR= 0.421, 95%CI: 0.206-0.861, P = 0.018) and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status(HR = 2.002, 95%CI: 1.530-2.618, P howed that HER2-positive patients had inferior OS and RFS. Stage Ⅱ-Ⅲ HER2-positive patients might be potential candidates for targeted therapies involving trastuzumab.

Inverted cystic tubulovillous adenoma involving Brunner’s glands of duodenum

Benign neoplasia of the duodenum are very rare. Moreover, duodenal tubulovillous adenomas are more uncommon lesions. The microscopic structure of tubulovillous adenoma has frond-like projection of mucosa with branching papillary structure and generally upward growth into the lumen. We describe a 72-year-old man who showed aduodenal tubulovillous adenoma with unusual inverted cystic growth pattern. Interestingly, this tubulovillous adenomatous lesion was interrupted by gastric metaplasia in the deep portion of the cyst and was closely surrounded by Brunner’s glands. Although histogenesis of gastric metaplasia of duodenum is not fully understood, Brunner’s glands has been suggested as a precursor for gastric metaplasia. Therefore, these findings argued that this adenoma arises from Brunner’s glands through gastric metaplasia. This is the first case of inverted cystic tubulovillous adenoma involving Brunner’s glands of duodenum with gastric metaplasia.

2D spinel ZnCo_(2)O_(4) microsheet-coated functional separator for promoted redox kinetics and inhibited polysulfide dissolution

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are receiving increasing attention as one of the potential next-generation batteries,owing to their high energy densities and low ***,practical Li-S batteries with high energy densities are extremely hindered by the sulfur loss,low Coulombic efficiency,and short cycling life originating from the polysulfide(LiPS)*** this study,two-dimensional(2D)ZnCo_(2)O_(4) microsheets fabricated by a facile hydrothermal process are employed to modify the separator,for improving the electrochemical performances of Li-S *** resulting 2D Zn Co_(2)O_(4)-coated separator features a coating thickness of approximately 10 lm,high ionic conductivity of 1.8 m S/cm,and low mass loading of 0.2 mg/cm^(2).This 2D ZnCo_(2)O_(4)-coated separator effectively inhibits Li PS shuttle by a strong chemical interaction with Li PS as well as promotes the redox kinetics by Zn CO2O4-coated layers,as determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis,self-discharge,time-dependent permeation test,Li symmetric cell test,and Li2S nucleation ***,the Li-S batteries based on the 2D Zn Co_(2)O_(4)-coated separator exhibit a high initial discharge capacity of 1292.2 m Ah/g at 0.1 ***,they exhibit excellent long cycle stability at 1 and 2 C with capacity retention of 84%and 86%even after800 cycles,corresponding to a capacity fading rate of 0.020%and 0.016%per cycle,***,these Li-S cells with a high sulfur loading at 5.3 mg/cm^(2) and low electrolyte concentration of 9 l L/mg deliver a high discharge capacity of 4.99 m Ah/cm^(2) after 200 cycles at 0.1 C.
