Polygonum cuspidatum is used as a traditional medicinal herb for the therapy of various diseases including several types of cancers. In the present study, we focused on addressing the anti-cancer activity and molecular mechanism of methanol extract of Polygonum cuspidatum (MEPC) in HSC-2 human oral cancer cells. The effect of MEPC on oral cancer cells was estimated by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-20yl)-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulphophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium (MTS) assay, 4’-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining and Western blot analysis. MEPC inhibited the cell viability and induced apoptosis through the induction of death receptor (DR) 5. MEPC also increased the expression of C/EBP homologous protein/growth arrest and the DNA damage-inducible gene 153 (CHOP), a transcription factor induced by ER stress. Thus, we concluded that the induction of CHOP leading to DR5 up-regulation is required for the anti-cancer activity of MEPC in HSC-2 cells and MEPC may be a promising drug candidate for oral cancer.

Background: Proton-impact metallic nanoparticles, inducing low-energy electrons emission and characteristic X-rays termed as Coulomb nanoradiator effect (CNR), are known to produce therapeutic enhancement in proton treatment on experimental tumors. The purpose of this pilot study was to investigate the effect of CNR-based dose enhancement on tumor growth inhibition in an iron-oxide nanoparticle (FeONP)-loaded orthotopic rat glioma model. Methods: Proton-induced CNR was exploited to treat glioma-bearing SD rat loaded with FeONP by either fully-absorbed single pristine Bragg peak (APBP) or spread-out Bragg peak (SOBP) 45-MeV proton beam. A selected number of rats were examined by MRI before and after treatment to obtain the size and position information for adjusting irradiation field. Tumor regression assay was performed by histological analysis of residual tumor in the sacrificed rats 7 days after treatment. The results of CNR-treated groups were compared with the proton alone control. Results: Intravenous injection of FeONP (300 mg/kg) elevated the tumor concentration of iron up to 37 μg of Fe/g tissue, with a tumor-to-normal ratio of 5, 24 hours after injection. The group receiving FeONP and proton beam showed 65% - 79% smaller tumor volume dose-dependently compared with the proton alone group. The rats receiving FeONP and controlled irradiation field by MR imaging demonstrated more than 95% - 99% tumor regression compared with MRI-determined initial tumor size. Conclusions: Proton-impact FeONP produced therapeutic enhancement compared with proton alone in an orthotopic rat glioma model at a selected temporal point after treatment. Single BP proton beam could induce CNR- based dose enhancement and produce enhanced tumor regression that was comparable to SOBP treatment despite inhomogeneous tumor dose in the APBP-treated tumor. These results may suggest emergence of novel Particle Induced Radiation Therapy (PIRT) on malignant glioma.

"S+好+V"结构中表"容易"义的"好"是一类被忽视的情态助动词,本文认为其来源是上古汉语中"喜爱"义动词"好"(hào),而不是形容词"好"(hǎo)。最初主语S为施事,动词"好"带谓词性宾语以连动结构的形式出现,可看作自然的无标记状态。魏晋南北朝时期,充当S的成分由施事扩展到时间、工具、处所等非施事,无标化推力下"好"发生第一次语法化,"好+V"的深层结构由"V+O"重新分析为"AV+V",语义上"好"的"喜爱"义在隐喻机制作用下演变为"适合"义。唐代,充当S的成分进一步扩展到受事,再次成为相对的有标记状态,无标化推力再次作用导致"好"发生第二次语法化;"好+V"的深层结构仍为"AV+V",但语义上"好"的"适合"义在语用推理促成的转喻机制作用下演变为"容易"义。唐代以后,"好"的"喜爱"义动词和"适合、容易"义助动词的用法并存且发展至今。

Vibration analysis is widely used in machinery diagnosis,and the wavelet transforms and envelope analysis had also been implemented in many applications in the condition monitoring of *** transform is using in researches for detection of the faults in *** are applied for a development of the condition monitoring system for early detection of the faults generated in several key components of *** detection of the faults is a very important factor for condition monitoring and a basic component to extend CBM （Condition-Based Maintenance） to PM （Prediction Maintenance）.And AE （acoustic emission） sensor has a specific characteristic on the high sensitivity of the signal,high frequency and low energy,so recently AE technique is applied in some research papers for the early detection of machine *** this paper,the AE signals caused by the crack growth on the rotating shaft were acquired through AE *** AE signals were preprocessed by wavelet transforms,and then the power spectrums of the frequency domain were generated using the FFT result of *** the power spectrum,some peaks were presented on the several frequencies,and the characteristics considered on the crack growth were found out.

Aim:To further investigate the analgesic pharmacophore of(+)-***:Two different opioid pharmacophores,Pharm-Ⅰ and Pharm-Ⅱ,were es-tablished from structures of nine typical opiates and meperidine by using molecu-lar modeling approaches according to their different structure activity relation-ship *** were further validated by a set of conformationally con-strained *** conformers of(+)-meptazinol(Conformer-Ⅰ and Con-former-Ⅱ)detected in solution were then fitted into the pharmacophores,respectively,by Fit Atoms facilities available in SYBYL,a computational modelingtool kit for molecular design and ***:Conformer-Ⅰ fit Pharm-Ⅰ fromtypical opiates ***,Conformer-Ⅱ fit none of these ***,it was found to be similar to another potent analgesic,benzofuro[2,3-c]pyridin-6-ol,whose pharmacophore was suggested to hold the transitional statebetween the two established *** typical analgesics derivedfrom 4-aryl piperidine(eg,meperidine)with one conformer absolutely overwhelming,the(+)-meptazinol exists in two conformers with similar amounts in ***,both conformers can not transform to each other freely in ordinaryconditions based on our NMR ***:(+)-meptazinol was suggestedto be an opioid with mixed analgesic pharmacophores,which may account for thecomplicated pharmacological properties of meptazinol.

The protection and reasonable use of freshwater is one of the main goals for our future, as water is most important for all organisms on earth including humans. Due to pollution, not only with xenobiotics, but also with nutrients, the status of our water bodies has changed drastically. Excess nutrient load induces eutrophication processes and, as a result, massive cyanobacterial blooms during the summer times. As cyanobacteria are known to produce several toxic secondary metabolites, the so-called cyanotoxins, exhibiting hepato-, neuro- and cell-toxicity, a potential risk is given, when using this water. There is an urgent need to have a water purification system, which is able to cope with these natural toxins. Using aquatic plants as a Green Liver, the Green Liver System?, was developed, able to remove these natural pollutants. To test the ability of the Green Liver System?, several cyanobacterial toxins including artificial and natural mixtures were tested in a small-scale laboratory system. The results showed that within 7 - 14 days a combination of different aquatic macrophytes was able to remove a given toxin amount (10 μg·L-1) by 100%. The phytoremediation technology behind the Green Liver Systems? uses the simple ability of submerged aquatic plants to uptake, detoxify and store the toxins, without formation and release of further metabolites to the surrounding water.
