A pilot study of single-use endoscopy in screening acute gastrointestinal bleeding

AIM:To investigate the feasibility of a single-use endoscopy as an alternative procedure to nasogastric lavage in patients with acute gastrointestinal(GI) ***:Patients who presented with hematemesis,melena or hematochezia were enrolled in this *** scan and conventional esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD) were subsequently *** bleeding was defined as blood in the stomach,and inactive bleeding was defined as coffee ground clots and clear fluid in the *** findings were recorded and ***:Between January and March,2011,13 patients that presented with hematemesis(n = 4),melena(n = 6),or bleeding from a previous nasogastric feeding tube(n = 3),were enrolled in this *** 12 patients with upper GI bleeding,the EG scan device revealed that 7 patients had active bleeding and 5 patients had inactive bleeding,whereas conventional EGD revealed that 8 patients had active bleeding and 4 patients had inactive *** sensitivity and specificity of the EG scan device was 87.5% and 100% for active bleeding,with conventional EGD serving as a *** complication were reported during the EG scan ***:The EG scan is a feasible device for screening acute upper GI *** may replace nasogastric lavage for the evaluation of acute upper GI bleeding.

A Study on a Snowband Associated with a Coastal Front and Cold-Air Damming Event of 3-4 February 1998 along the Eastern Coast of the Korean Peninsula

A 24-h simulation with the Advanced Regional Prediction System （ARPS） nonhydrostatic model is performed for the heavy snowfall event of 3-4 February 1998 along the eastern coast of Korean Peninsula; the results are used to understand the snowfall process, including why the precipitation maxima formed along the Yeongdong coastal region rather than over the mountain slope and ridge top during. The numerical simulation with a 4-kin horizontal grid spacing and 43 levels reproduces very well the narrow snowband located off the eastern Korean coast, away from, instead of over, the Yeongdong coastal mountain range. The general evolution of the snowband agrees quite well with radar observations, while the water-equivalent precipitation amount agrees reasonably well with radar precipitation estimate. The simulation results clearly show that the snow band developed due to the lifting by a coastal front that developed because of the damming of cold air against the eastern slope of the coastal mountain range. The damming was enhanced by the advection of cold air by a tow-level mountain-parallel jet from the north, formed due to geostrophic adjustment as the on-shore upslope air was decelerated by the mountain blocking. As the onshore flow weakened later due to synoptic-scale flow pattern change, the cold front propagated off shore and the precipitation dissipated.

A paintable and adhesive hydrogel cardiac patch with sustained release of ANGPTL4 for infarcted heart repair

The infarcted heart undergoes irreversible pathological remodeling after reperfusion involving left ventricle dilation and excessive inflammatory reactions in the infarcted heart,frequently leading to fatal functional *** attempts have been made to attenuate pathological remodeling in infarcted hearts using cardiac patches and anti-inflammatory drug *** this study,we developed a paintable and adhesive hydrogel patch using dextran-aldehyde(dex-ald)and gelatin,incorporating the anti-inflammatory protein,ANGPTL4,into the hydrogel for sustained release directly to the infarcted heart to alleviate *** optimized the material composition,including polymer concentration and molecular weight,to achieve a paintable,adhesive hydrogel using 10%gelatin and 5%dex-ald,which displayed in-situ gel formation within 135 s,cardiac tissue-like modulus(40.5 kPa),suitable tissue adhesiveness(4.3 kPa),and excellent mechanical ***4 was continuously released from the gelatin/dex-ald hydrogel without substantial burst *** gelatin/dex-ald hydrogel could be conveniently painted onto the beating heart and degraded in ***,in vivo studies using animal models of acute myocardial infarction revealed that our hydrogel cardiac patch containing ANGPTL4 significantly improved heart tissue repair,evaluated by echocardiography and histological *** heart tissues treated with ANGPTL4-loaded hydrogel patches exhibited increased vascularization,reduced inflammatory macrophages,and structural maturation of cardiac *** novel hydrogel system,which allows for facile paintability,appropriate tissue adhesiveness,and sustained release of anti-inflammatory drugs,will serve as an effective platform for the repair of various tissues,including heart,muscle,and cartilage.

Objective:Acupotomy is a modern acupuncture method that includes modern surgical *** acupotomy is relatively more invasive than filiform acupuncture treatment,it is important to establish the safety profile of this *** justify further large-scale prospective observational studies,this preliminary study was performed to assess the feasibility of the approach and investigate the safety profile and factors potentially associated with adverse events(AEs).Methods:This was a prospective pilot study that assessed the feasibility of a large-scale forthcoming safety study on acupotomy treatment in a real-world *** feasibility(call response rate,dropout rate,response rate for each variable and recruitment per month)and safety profile(incidence,type,severity and causality of AEs,and factors potentially associated with AEs)were ***:A total of 28 participants joined the study from January to May 2018.A follow-up assessment was achieved in 258(1185 treatment points)out of 261 sessions(1214 treatment points).The response rate via telephone on the day after treatment was 87.3%.There were 8 systemic AEs in all the sessions(8/258;3.11%)and 27 local AEs on the total points treated(27/1185;2.28%).Severe AEs did not *** AE and local AE occurrence were associated with blade width and the number of needle stimulations per treatment ***:The findings suggest that it could be feasible to analyze the safety of acupotomy in a realworld ***,the primary data on some relevant AEs could be *** are planning large-scale prospective studies based on these *** registration:Clinical Research Information Service(CRIS)KCT0002849(https://***/cris/search/***/11487).

On the Classification of Positive Quaternionic Khler Manifolds with b_4=1

Let M be a positive quaternionic Kahler manifold of dimension 4m. We already showed that if the symmetry rank is greater than or equal to [m/2] ＋ 2 and the fourth Betti number b4 is equal to one, then M is isometric to HPm. The goal of this paper is to report that we can improve the lower bound of the symmetry rank by one for higher even-dimensional positive quaternionic Kahler manifolds. Namely, it is shown in this paper that if the symmetry rank of M with b4（M） = 1 is greater than or equal to m/2 ＋ 1 for m ≥ 10, then M is isometric to HPm. One of the main strategies of this paper is to apply a more delicate argument of Frankel type to positive quaternionic Kahler manifolds with certain symmetry rank.

Design of small-area and high-efficiency DC-DC converter for 1 T SRAM

The direct current-direct current （DC-DC） converter is designed for 1 T static random access memory （SRAM） used in display driver integrated circuits （ICs）, which consists of positive word-line voltage （VpwL）, negative word-line voltage （VinyL） and half-VDD voltage （VHDo） generator. To generate a process voltage temperature （PVT）-insensitive VpWL and VNWL, a set of circuits were proposed to generate reference voltages using bandgap reference current generators for respective voltage level detectors. Also, a VOWL regulator and a VNWL charge pump were proposed for a small-area and low-power design. The proposed VpwL regulator can provide a large driving current with a small area since it regulates an input voltage （VCI） from 2.5 to 3.3 V. The VmvL charge pump can be implemented as a high-efficiency circuit with a small area and low power since it can transfer pumped charges to VNWL node entirely. The DC-DC converter for 1 T SRAM were designed with 0.11 μm mixed signal process and operated well with satisfactory measurement results.

The effect of the residual thermal stress of NiO films on the performance of an inverted type perovskite solar cell was *** this study,NiO films were grown on fluorine dopedtin oxide(FTO)substrates of different surface roughness by thermally oxidizing Ni film and weretested as a hole transport layer for large-scale perovskite solar *** and simulation results show that it is very important tosuppress the appearance of the residual stress at the NiO-FTO in terface during the oxidation of the Ni film for effective hole extracti *** Ni oxidation on the flat FTO film produced in-plane compressive stress in the NiO film due to the Ni film volume *** led to theformation of defects including small *** residual stress and defects in creased leakage curre nt through the NiO film,preve ntingholes from being selectively collected at the NiO-perovskite ***,when Ni was deposited and oxidized on the rough surface,the residual stress of the NiO film was negligible and its inhere nt high resistance was ***-free NiO film is an excelle nt holetransport layer that stops the photogenerated electrons of the perovskite layer from moving to *** improvements in the structural andelectrical qualities of the NiO film by engirteering the residual stress reduce the carrier recombination and increase the power conversi onefficiency of the perovskite solar cells to 16.37%.
