Objective:Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is a commonly performed otolaryngologic procedure that often uses the microdebrider device for tissue *** the ubiquitous nature of the instrument,we sought to better define the patterns of device failure using the postmarket surveillance openFDA ***:The openFDA database was queried for all microdebrider‐related adverse events from January 1,2000 to November 1,*** information on the nature of device failure and any associated patient injury was *** not directly related to device failure were excluded from the ***:A total of 641 events were included in the *** most common device failure was overheating(n=348,54.3%),followed by material separation(n=173,27%),and inconsistent device activation(n=52,8.1%).Of the reported events,the vast majority did not result in patient harm(n=579,90.3%).On review of the remaining cases,only 24 events(3.7%)resulted in true harm to the patient,defined as a temporary or permanent injury or>30 min of additional anesthesia *** these cases,the need to reschedule surgical cases(n=5,0.8%),retained foreign body(n=5,0.8%),and thermal tissue injury(n=3,0.5%)were the most *** patients suffered an injury due to surgeon error unrelated to device malfunction(n=5,0.8%).Conclusions:microdebrider device failures are extremely *** they do occur,less than 10%result in patient *** cases of patient harm related to microdebrider failure,preoperative testing of the device before use could prevent many of the reported malfunctions.

High entropy metallic glass nanoparticles(HEmG NPs)are very promising materials for energy conversion due to the wide tuning possibilities of electrochemical potentials offered by their multimetallic character combined with an amorphous *** until now,the generation of these HEmG NPs involved tedious synthesis procedures where the generated particles were only available on highly specialized supports,which limited their widespread ***,more flexible synthetic approaches to obtain colloidal HEmG NPs for applications in energy conversion and storage are highly *** utilized pulsed laser ablation of bulk high entropy alloy targets in acetonitrile to generate colloidal carbon-coated CrCoFeNimn and CrCoFeNimnmo HEmG *** in-depth analysis of the structure and elemental distribution of the obtained nanoparticles down to single-particle levels using advanced transmission electron microscopy(TEm),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and Xray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)methods revealed amorphous quinary and senary alloy phases with slight manganese oxide/hydroxide surface segregation,which were stabilized within graphitic *** on the catalytic activity of the corresponding carbon-HEmG NPs during oxygen evolution and oxygen reduction reactions revealed an elevated activity upon the incorporation of moderate amounts of mo into the amorphous alloy,probably due to the defect generation by atomic size ***,we demonstrate the superiority of these carbon-HEmG NPs over their crystalline analogies and highlight the suitability of these amorphous multi-elemental NPs in electrocatalytic energy conversion.

Rate-distortion optimized frame dropping and scheduling for multi-user conversational and streaming video

We propose a Rate-Distortion (RD) optimized strategy for frame-dropping and scheduling of multi-user conversa- tional and streaming videos. We consider a scenario where conversational and streaming videos share the forwarding resources at a network node. Two buffers are setup on the node to temporarily store the packets for these two types of video applications. For streaming video, a big buffer is used as the associated delay constraint of the application is moderate and a very small buffer is used for conversational video to ensure that the forwarding delay of every packet is limited. A scheduler is located behind these two buffers that dynamically assigns transmission slots on the outgoing link to the two buffers. Rate-distortion side information is used to perform RD-optimized frame dropping in case of node overload. Sharing the data rate on the outgoing link between the con- versational and the streaming videos is done either based on the fullness of the two associated buffers or on the mean incoming rates of the respective videos. Simulation results showed that our proposed RD-optimized frame dropping and scheduling ap- proach provides significant improvements in performance over the popular priority-based random dropping (PRD) technique.

In vivo printing of growth factor-eluting adhesive scaffolds improves wound healing

Acute and chronic wounds affect millions of people around the world,imposing a growing financial burden on patients and *** the application of current wound management strategies,the physiological healing process is disrupted in many cases,resulting in impaired wound ***,more efficient and easy-to-use treatment modalities are *** this study,we demonstrate the benefit of in vivo printed,growth factor-eluting adhesive scaffolds for the treatment of full-thickness wounds in a porcine model.A custom-made handheld printer is implemented to finely print gelatin-methacryloyl(GelmA)hydrogel containing vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)into the *** vitro and in vivo results show that the in situ GelmA crosslinking induces a strong scaffold adhesion and enables printing on curved surfaces of wet tissues,without the need for any *** scaffold is further shown to offer a sustained release of VEGF,enhancing the migration of endothelial cells in *** analyses demonstrate that the administration of the VEGF-eluting GelmA scaffolds that remain adherent to the wound bed significantly improves the quality of healing in porcine *** introduced in vivo printing strategy for wound healing applications is translational and convenient to use in any place,such as an operating room,and does not require expensive bioprinters or imaging modalities.

外来入侵物种在入侵地经常面临很强的选择压力,这常常导致种内变异。在生活史事件发生的时间上,种群分化对气候梯度的响应被认为是促进许多入侵物种扩张的重要机制。对于产生种子的植物来说,种子萌发的时间决定了萌芽所经历的第一个环境条件,这对入侵植物的成功定植、种群建立和传播具有重要意义——尽管对于萌发在植物入侵成功中所起的作用仍然知之甚少。在本研究中,我们评估了入侵植物石茅(Sorghum halepense)在北美分布的10个种群的种子萌发在温度和降水梯度上的动态变化,以及这种变化是否与本地气候有关。种子被放置于一个较宽的温度范围(11-48℃)以及两个水分梯度处理中。我们发现,石茅的种子可以在很宽的温度范围下萌发,但在不同的种群中,种子萌发的比例随温度和水分的不同而有较大的变化。有证据表明,当石茅的生长范围从温暖的气候扩展到寒冷的气候时,种子萌发温度的生态位也同时发生了向低温的转变。我们的研究结果表明,石茅种子的萌发已经适应了当地的气候,使其在整个生长范围内的萌发最大化,这可能是其入侵新环境的一个重要贡献因素。

Prediction of Hydrothermal Copper, Gold, Silver and Lead-Zinc in Northwestern Yunnan Using Weight of Evidence model

This paper discusses the application of the model in predicting for hydrothermal Cu, Ag, Au and Pb−Zn occurrences in northwestern Yunnan. Geochemical, lineament and lithology data were the selected recognition criteria. The mentioned criteria varied against 75 known hydrothermal occurrences; the geochemical data had a weight of (W +=1.2097,W −=−0.7481) being the maximum among the three and the rest lineament and lithology have (W +=0.7424,W −=−0.4496), (W +=0.3787,W −=−0.6243) respectively. The application was successful since the predicted results covers about 70% of the known deposits and predicted unknown areas.

Investigation on the freeze-thaw damage to the jointed plain concrete pavement under different climate conditions

Freeze-thaw damage is one of the main threats to the long time performance of the concrete pavement in the cold regions. This project aims to evaluate the influence of the freeze-thaw damages on pavement distresses under different climate conditions. Based on the Long-Term Pavement Performance （LTPP） data base, the freeze-thaw damage generated by four different kinds of climate conditions are considered in this project： wet-freeze, wet-non freeze, dry- freeze and dry-non freeze. The amount of the transverse crack and the joint spalling, along with the International Roughness Index （IR/） are compared among the test sections located in these four different climate conditions. The back calculation with the Falling Weight Deflectometer （FWD） test results based on the ERES and the Estimation of Concrete Pavement Parameters （ECOPP） methods are conducted to obtain concrete slab elastic modulus and the subgrade k-value. These two parameters both decrease with service time under freeze condition. Finally, mEPDG simulation is conducted to simulate the IR/development with service year. These results showed the reasonable freeze-thaw damage development with pavement service life and under different climate conditions.

In recent years,our world has experienced significant disruptions due to the COviD-19 pandemic,and Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine,impacting human activities and the global *** paper explored air quality changes in Ukraine due to COVID-19,and Russia's invasion of Ukraine using on-demand with a what-you-see-is-what-you-get *** the cOVID-19 pandemic,strict quarantine policies in Ukraine led to a 2%reduction in tropospheric NO_(2) concentration before the lockdown and 4%during the lockdown *** like Kyiv,Donetsk,and Dnipro exhibited reductions of 5%,11%,and 16%,*** SO_(2) column concentration decreased by 6%before the lockdown and 2.5%during the lockdown period,except in high population density *** showed the highest reduction of 17%in SO_(2) concentration,while Donetsk and Dnipro exhibited an 11%***,during the Russian invasion,there was a significant increase in tropospheric NO_(2) concentration in heavily destroyed Kharkiv while most eastern regions experienced a *** total SO_(2) column was 48%higher before the war but reduced throughout the country after the war,except for in Kyiv and a few central *** findings can contribute to analyzing air pollution and building digital twin simulations for future reconstruction scenarios.
