Due to a lack of resources, rural communities often face ch.llenges wh.n planning catastroph.c events. Th.s project involved applying systems th.nking and model-based systems engineering to develop a proof-of-concept, multi-meth.d computer simulation and th.n determining wh.th.r th. simulation could be used to assess th. efficacy of disaster planning approach.s on h.alth.outcomes in rural communities, as a function of primary h.alth.are. Th. project focus was a rural or non-urban h.alth.are system experiencing a natural h.zard. Both.system dynamics and discrete event models were incorporated to represent subsystem operations, crucial disaster responses, as well as th.ee key response systems: public h.alth. emergency management, and h.alth.are. Th. subsystem models included several components: policies/procedures, communications,resources, exercises/drills/training, h.alth.are space and staff, and th. flow of affected people into and th.ough.th. *** combined simulation can serve as a first step to a more compreh.nsive approach.to h.lping rural communities ach.eve more efficient and effective h.alth.are planning for disaster responses.

Canadian Society of Otolaryngology–h.ad and Neck Surgery(CSOh.S)meetings from 2017 to 2020 to determine th. proportion of presenters introduced by th.ir professional title and wh.th.r th.s varied by ***:Recordings from CSOh.S meetings were reviewed and coded for introducer and presenter demograph.cs,including leadersh.p positions and ***‐squared tests of proportion and multivariate logistic regression was used to compare genders and identify factors associated with.professional versus unprofessional forms of ***:No significant association was found between professional title use and introducer or presenter *** presenters were introduced with.professional title 69.6%of th. time,wh.le male presenters were introduced with.professional title 67.6%of th. time(P=0.69).Residents were introduced with.a professional title with.th. most frequency(75.8%),wh.le attending staff were introduced with.a professional title with.th. least frequency(63.0%)(P=0.02).Conclusions:Th. lack of gender bias in speaker introductions at recent CSOh.S meetings demonstrates progress in ach.eving gender equity in *** efforts sh.uld continue to define additional forms of unconscious bias th.t may be contributing to gender inequity in leadersh.p positions.

Based on 2022 and 2023 h.drometric data and satellite images (Sentinel 2022, SPOT 2010), th.s study aims to present th. Nokoué Lake and its ch.nnels’ re-cent h.dromorph.logical ch.racteristics. Integrating flow, tributary morph.logy, and topograph. data determined specific power values along th. axes studied. Th. values obtained range from 2.69 to 12.92 W/m2 for Ouémé River and 2.46 to 10.99 W/m2 for Sô River. Th. resulting water erosion on banks and bottoms is of linear, areolar, or gully and claw types. Lake bath.metry varies from -0.5 to -2.6 m (low flow period) and -1 to -4 m;in th. Ouémé, Sô, and Totch. rivers, it varies from -5 m to -7 m, reach.ng -10 m at th. Cotonou ch.nnel entrance (flood period). Bath.metric profiles reveal varied “U”, “V” and “Intermediate” bottom morph.logies, influenced by erosion/sedimentation processes and h.man activities. Th. flow facies identified are lentic in th. north.rn tributaries and lotic in th. Cotonou and Totch. canals. Spatial analysis identified nine (09) th.matic classes. In 2022, th. surface area of th. water body h.s increased from 274 km2 at low water to 280 km2 at h.gh.water, wh.reas in 2010 (a recent year of exceptional flooding), th. surface area was 270 km2 at low water and 277 km2 at h.gh.water. Significant ch.nges in land use are observed between 2010 and 2022. Th. floodplain area decreased sligh.ly, from 421 km2 in 2010 (year of exceptional flooding) to 419 km2 in 2022. Th. evolution of land use sh.ws a progressive expansion of th. urban environment to th. detriment of th. natural environment. In th. medium to long term, th.s trend could th.eaten th. h.dromorph.logical balance and even th. existence of th.s important lagoon ecosystem.

Soil nutrient depletion as a result of continuous cultivation with.insufficient external nutrient replenish.ent is a major ch.llenge in sub-Sah.ran Africa (SSA). A trial using th. organic and mineral fertilizer was establish.d in th. cassava cropping system of th. Pissa and Damara areas to address th. declining soil fertility. Th. study aimed to evaluate th. effect of cow manure and mineral fertilizer in combination or sole application on soil ph.sico-ch.mical properties and macronutrients. Th. experimental trial adopted a randomized complete block design (RCBD) replicated four times. Th. treatments comprised of;T1 (Control), T2 (Peasant practice), T3 (sole NPK), and T4 (Cow manure + NPK). Th. data on soil ph.sicoch.mical analysis was subjected to a one-way analysis of variance in SAS 9.4 and th. mean was separated by Tukey’s h.D test at p h. soil ph.values ranged from 4.20 to 4.91;and 4.53 to 5.28 in Pissa and Damara respectively. According to th. treatments, a low ph.value is observed in T3 (4.13) in th. Pissa. Combined use of cow manure and th. mineral fertilizer resulted in h.gh.r Mg K and N in th. Pissa region and h.gh.r soil ph.in Damara. Th. use of sole NPK (T3) gave a h.gh.r soil carbon and CN ratio. In th. Pissa region th. CEC, Cu, Fe, and Zn were h.gh.r in th. treatments with.mineral fertilizer compared to th. control. Conclusively, th. use of mineral fertilizer and cow manure can be used with.optimum rates to improve soil ph.sico-ch.mical properties on a sustainable basis.

Evaluation of Clinician Training in Autism Screening, Care Management, and Patient Education

Objective: Th. demand for pediatric developmental evaluations h.s far exceeded th. workforce available to perform th.m, wh.ch.creates long significant wait times for services. A year-long clinician training using th. Extension for Community h.alth.are Outcomes (ECh.®) model with.month.y meetings was conducted and evaluated for its impact on primary care clinicians’ self-reported self-efficacy, ability to administer autism screening and counsel families, professional fulfillment, and burnout. Meth.ds: Participants represented six community h.alth.centers and a h.spital-based practice. Data collection was informed by participant feedback and th. Normalization Process Th.ory via online surveys and focus groups/interviews. Twelve virtual month.y trainings were delivered between November 2020 and October 2021. Results: 30 clinicians participated in data collection. Match.d analyses (n = 9) indicated statistically significant increase in self-rated ability to counsel families about autism (Pre-test Mean = 3.00, Post-test Mean = 3.89, p = 0.0313), manage autistic patients’ care (Pre-test Mean = 2.56, Post-test Mean = 4.11, p = 0.0078), empath. toward patients (Pre-test Mean = 2.11, Post-test Mean = 1.22, p = 0.0156) and colleagues (Pre-test Mean = 2.33, Post-test Mean = 1.22, respectively, p = 0.0391). Unmatch.d analysis revealed increases in participants confident about educating patients about autism (70.59%, post-test n = 12 vs. 3.33%, pre-test n = 1, p = 0.0019). Focus groups found increased confidence in using th. term “autism”. Conclusion: Participants reported increases in ability and confidence to care for autistic patients, as well as empath. toward patients and colleagues. Future research.sh.uld explore long-term outcomes in participants’ knowledge retention, confidence in practice, and improvements to autism evaluations and care.
