Yeasts,usually defined as unicellular fungi,occur in various fungal ***,they are not a taxonomic unit,but rather represent a fungal lifestyle shared by several unrelated *** the discovery of new yeast species occurs at an increasing speed,at the current rate it will likely take hundreds of years,if ever,before they will all be *** parts of the earth,including many threatened habitats,remain unsampled for yeasts and many others are only superficially *** habitats,such as glaciers,are home to a specific community of cold-adapted yeasts,and,hence,there is some urgency to study such environments at locations where they might disappear soon due to anthropogenic climate *** same is true for yeast communities in various natural forests that are impacted by deforestation and forest *** countries of the so-called Global South have not been sampled for yeasts,despite their economic ***,extensive research activity in Asia,especially China,has yielded many taxonomic *** genomics stud-ies have demonstrated the presence of yeast species with a hybrid origin,many of them isolated from clinical or industrial ***-metabarcoding studies have demonstrated the prevalence,and in some cases dominance,of yeast species in soils and marine waters worldwide,including some surprising distributions,such as the unexpected and likely common presence of Malassezia yeasts in marine habitats.

Does Surgery Benefit postmenopausal Overweight Women with pelvic Floor Dysfunction?

Introduction: pelvic floor muscle function of 30 overweight postmenopausal women prior to and after colporrhahpy was monitored in this study. Material and Methods: patients diagnosed with cystokele or combined cystorectokele was involved. 1 mg oral estriol and local estriol cream were administered for 30 days preoperatively. pelvic floor muscle function was monitored by surface electromyography 1 month before (1st) 1 day prior to surgery (2nd), and six weeks after the surgery (3rd measurement). Body composition parameters (intra- and extracellular water and body fat) were also measured. Results: The ability to relax significantly improved (p = 0.03) in the preoperative period (between 1st and 2nd occasions). Six weeks after surgery a non-significant (p = 0.054) decrease in average muscle activity was detected when compared with values obtained before the surgery. Muscle-activity declined significantly from the first to the last measurements (p = 0.005). Conclusion: Our results confirm that postmenopausal obese women who undergo anterior or posterior colporrhaphy need a follow-up concerning pelvic floor muscle function and suggest that physiotherapy started the earliest possible may aid in preserving postoperative functionality on the long run.

Economic Impact of GM Hysteria on EU Feed Market

A growing world population coupled with changing diet is projected to increase demand for food production by 70% by 2050. Helping farmers lose less of their crops will be a key factor in promoting food security. In addition to pesticides GM crops will continue to be a vital tool in the diverse range of technologies that can maintain and improve living standards for the people of the world. The EU is dependent for 65% on imports of protein-rich feedstuffs for which there are no substitutes in the short term. The EU livestock sector uses imported soybean, soybean meal and maize by-products as animal feed. Without an adequate supply of these feed ingredients, the EU’s livestock production will loose competitiveness. However, demands from the EU differ to those from third countries with respect to the GM varieties grown, and what are authorised for import into the EU. The risk that supplies of soya products and maize by-products could be affected by the low-level presence of non-EU approved GM material has not been fully resolved as the EU has allowed just a 0.1% tolerance for this plus 0.05% tolerance for measuring uncertainty. This could cause supply problems for the animal feed industry, and ultimately supply of food to consumers. The importance of the EU market and EU requirements for the major soybean and maize exporter countries is declining over time and it is becoming increasingly difficult and costly to maintain a non-GM supply chain in the EU. Food companies and supermarkets will struggle to stay GM-free. EU member states dependent on imports will be forced to deal with more GM presence in their chain. Market forces are forcing governments to authorize products more efficiently, develop tolerance policies or tolerate unapproved varieties in their imports.

Single-cell mass cytometry(SCMC)combines features of traditional flow cytometry(i.e.,fluorescence-activated cell sorting)with mass spectrometry,making it possible to measure several parameters at the single-cell level for a complex analysis of biological regulatory *** this study,we optimized SCMC to analyze hemocytes of the Drosophila innate immune *** used metal-conjugated antibodies(against cell surface antigens H2,H3,H18,L1,L4,and p1,and intracellular antigens 3A5 and L2)and anti-IgM(against cell surface antigen L6)to detect the levels of antigens,while anti-GFp was used to detect crystal cells in the immune-induced *** investigated the antigen expression profile of single cells and hemocyte populations in naive states,in immune-induced states,in tumorous mutants bearing a driver mutation in the Drosophila homologue of janus kinase(hopTum)and carrying a deficiency of the tumor suppressor gene lethal(3)malignant blood neoplasm-1[l(3)mbn1],as well as in stem cell maintenance-defective hdcD84 mutant *** analysis enabled the discrimination of the functionally different major hemocyte subsets for lamellocytes,plasmatocytes,and crystal cells,and delineated the unique immunophenotype of Drosophila *** have identified subpopulations of L2^(+)/p1^(+)and L2^(+)/L4^(+)/p1^(+)transitional phenotype cells in the tumorous strains l(3)mbn1 and hopTum,respectively,and a subpopulation of L4^(+)/p1^(+)cells upon immune *** results demonstrated for the first time that SCMC,combined with multidimensional bioinformatic analysis,represents a versatile and powerful tool to deeply analyze the regulation of cell-mediated immunity of Drosophila.

Relapsing polychondritis with p-ANCA associated vasculitis: Which triggers the other?

Relapsing polychondritis(Rp) is a rare autoimmune disease with chronic inflammatory/destructive lesions of the cartilaginous tissues. In one third of the cases it is associated with other autoimmune disorders, mostly with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody(ANCA) associated vasculitis(AAV). We report three cases of Rp with p-ANCA positive AAV. In the first patient Rp developed 1.5 years after the onset of AAV. In the others the signs of Rp were present before the onset of severe crescent glomerulonephritis. patients responded well on steroid and cyclophosphamide. In dialysis dependent cases plasmapheresis was also used successfully. During the 2 and 1.5 years of follow up, they were symptom-free, and had stable glomerular filtration rate. The first patient died after four years of follow-up due to the complications of sudden unset pancytopenia,which raises the possibility of associated hemophagocytic syndrome. In the setting of Rp or AAV physicians should always be aware of the possibility of sudden or insidious appearance of the other disease.

Characterization and Utilization of Starches Extracted from Florencia and Waxy Maize Hybrids for Tablet Formulation: Compaction Behaviour and Tablet properties

The aim of this work is to analyze the particle characteristics, such as shape, roundness and size, of starches extracted from Florencia and waxy maize hybrids. The micromeritics and structural properties of the samples were examined. The evaluation of flow properties, densification and compression behaviour of the powders was carried out. physical parameters and swelling characteristics of tablets containing Florencia and waxy maize starch were also studied. Starch samples were compared with respect to their applicability as excipients in tablet formulation. The samples exhibited identical structure and similar particle characteristics. Maize starch extracted from the Florencia dent hybrid showed better flowability and compressibility in tableting experiments, which resulted in better mechanical tablet properties. With regard to utilization as a disintegrant, Florencia starch indicated rapid and intensive swelling and proved to act more effectively in the swelling process than waxy maize starch.

plasma proteome profiling with Monoclonal Antibody Libraries: A pilot Biomarker Analysis for Nanomedicine-Induced Complement Activation

Complement (C) activation-related hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) represent an unsolved adverse immune effect of many i.v. administered “nanomedicines”, such as liposomal doxorubicin (Doxil/Caelyx). Because these pseudoallergic reactions can be severe or even lethal, it is an important clinical objective to find biomarkers for proneness for C activation by reactogenic nanoparticles that will allow the prediction of in vivo reactions by in vitro assays. With this goal in mind we identified a normal human blood donor who consistently showed high sensitivity to Caelyx-induced C activation in vitro, whose plasma (Caelyx sensitive plasma, CSp) was subjected to proteome profiling with a library of human plasma proteome specific mAbs. The chip (plasmaScan-380TM) contained 380 non redundant (with respect to epitopes) mAbs. The analysis revealed 8 proteins that were differentially represented in CSp in comparison with Caelyx-insensitive control plasma. These proteins were identified by mass spectrometry and Western blot analyses to represent factor H (decreased in CSp), factor H related protein, serum amyloid p component, fibronectin, complement component C4, Apo B100, prothrombin and alpha-2-HS glycoprotein (all increased in CSp). Some of these protein changes are consistent with proneness for increased C activation, suggesting the potential use of this method in the search for biomarkers for liposome-induced or other types of nanomedicine-induced HSRs.
