Regulation of epithelial function, differentiation, and remodeling in the epididymis

The epididymis is a single convoluted tubule lined by a pseudostratified epithelium. Specialized epididymal epithelial cells, the so-called principal, basal, narrow, and clear cells, establish a unique luminal environment for the maturation and storage of spermatozoa. The epididymis is functionally and structurally divided into several segments and sub-segments that create regionally distinct luminal environments. This organ is immature at birth, and epithelial cells acquire their fully differentiated phenotype during an extended postnatal period, but the factors involved in this complex process remain incompletely characterized. In the adult epididymis, the establishment of an acidic luminal pH and low bicarbonate concentration in the epididymis contributes to preventing premature activation of spermatozoa during their maturation and storage. Clear cells are proton-secreting cells throughout the epididymis, but principal cells have distinct acid/base transport properties, depending on their localization within the epididymis. Basal cells are located in all epididymal segments, but they have a distinct morphology depending on the segment and species examined. How this structural plasticity of basal cells is regulated is discussed here. Also, the role of luminal factors and androgens in the regulation of epithelial cells is reviewed in relation to their respective localization in the proximal versus distal regions of the epididymis. Finally, we describe a novel role for CFTR in tubulogenesis and epithelial cell differentiation.

As a critical component of coherent X-ray diffraction imaging(CDI),phase retrieval has been extensively applied in X-ray structural science to recover the 3D morphological information inside measured *** meeting all the oversampling requirements of Sayre and Shannon,current phase retrieval approaches still have trouble achieving a unique inversion of experimental data in the presence of ***,we propose to overcome this limitation by incorporating a 3D Machine Learning(ML)model combining(optional)supervised learning with transfer *** trained ML model can rapidly provide an immediate result with high accuracy which could benefit real-time experiments,and the predicted result can be further refined with transfer *** significantly,the proposed ML model can be used without any prior training to learn the missing phases of an image based on minimization of an appropriate‘loss function’*** demonstrate significantly improved performance with experimental Bragg CDI data over traditional iterative phase retrieval algorithms.

Verification of Beam Models for Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite Actuator

Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC) can work as an actuator by applying a few voltages.A thick IPMC actuator,where Nafion-117 membrane was synthesized with polypyrrole/alumina composite filler,was analyzed to verify the equivalent beam and equivalent bimorph beam *** blocking force and tip displacement of the IPMC actuator were measured with a DC power supply and Young's modulus of the IPMC strip was measured by bending and tensile tests *** calculated maximum tip displacement and the Young's modulus by the equivalent beam model were almost identical to the corresponding measured *** element analysis with thermal analogy technique was utilized in the equivalent bimorph beam model to numerically reproduce the force-displacement relationship of the IPMC *** results by the equivalent bimorph beam model agreed well with the force-displacement relationship acquired by the measured *** is confirmed that the equivalent beam and equivalent bimorph beam models are practically and effectively suitable for predicting the tip displacement,blocking force and Young's modulus of IPMC actuators with different thickness and different composite of ionic polymer membrane.

Application of Integrated Database to the Casting Design

Construction of integrated database including casting shapes with their casting design, technical knowledge, and thermophysical properties of the casting alloys were introduced in the present study. Recognition tech- nique for casting design by industrial computer tomography was used for the construction of shape database. Technical knowledge of the casting processes such as ferrous and non-ferrous alloys and their manufacturing process of the castings were accumulated and the search engine for the knowledge was developed. Database of thermophysical properties of the casting alloys were obtained via the experimental study, and the properties were used for the in-house computer simulation of casting process. The databases were linked with intelligent casting expert system developed in center for e-design, KITECH. It is expected that the databases can help non casting experts to devise the casting and its process. Various examples of the application by using the databases were shown in the present study.

In the era of rapid development of Internet of Things(IoT),numerous machine-to-machine technologies have been applied to the industrial *** to the divergence of IoT solutions,the industry is faced with a need to apply various technologies for automation and *** fact leads to a demand for an establishing interworking mechanism which would allow smooth interoperability between heterogeneous *** of the major protocols widely used today in industrial electronic devices is ***,data generated by Modbus devices cannot be understood by IoT applications using different protocols,so it should be applied in a couple with an IoT service layer ***2M,a global IoT standard,can play the role of interconnecting various protocols,as it provides flexible tools suitable for building an interworking framework for industrial ***,in this paper,we propose an interworking architecture between devices working on the Modbus protocol and an IoT platform implemented based on oneM2M *** the proposed architecture,we introduce the way to model Modbus data as oneM2M resources,rules to map them to each other,procedures required to establish interoperable communication,and optimization methods for this *** analyze our solution and provide an evaluation by implementing it based on a solar power management use *** results demonstrate that our model is feasible and can be applied to real case scenarios.

The relation between the structure of the silver network electrodes and the properties of Cu(In,Ga)Se_(2)(CIGS)solar cells is systemically *** Ag network electrode is deposited onto an Al:ZnO(AZO)thin film,employing a self-forming cracked *** control over the cracked template's structure is achieved through careful adjustment of temperature and *** Ag network electrodes with different coverage areas and network densities are systemically applied to the CIGS solar *** is revealed that predominant fill factor(FF)is influenced by the figure of merit of transparent conducting electrodes,rather than sheet resistance,particularly when the coverage area falls within the range of 1.3–5%.Furthermore,a higher network density corresponds to an enhanced FF when the coverage areas of the Ag networks are *** utilizing a thinner AZO film,CIGS solar cells with a surface area of 1.0609 cm^(2)exhibit a notable performance improvement,with efficiency increasing from 10.48%to 11.63%.This enhancement is primarily attributed to the increase in FF from 45%to 65%.These findings underscore the considerable potential for reducing the thickness of the transparent conductive oxide(TCO)in CIGS modules with implications for practical applications in photovoltaic technology.

BACKGROUND Calcific tendinopathy denotes calcific deposits in a specific *** is also known as calcifying tendinitis,calcifying periarticulitis,or periarticular apatite deposition ***,extracorporeal shock wave therapy(ESWT)has been reported to be effective in relieving and treating pain in calcific *** SUMMARY A 36-year-old female patient suffered from left hip joint pain for six *** pain was increased during abduction of the hip,waking,and jumping.B-mode ultrasonography was performed by a physiatrist with an L12-5 linear transducer.A single session of ESWT was given in the marking area under ultrasound guidance at 4 Hz,2500 shots with intensity of stimulation using energy of 0.1 mj/*** hip pain of the patient slowly decreased within 4 wk after starting the *** six weeks of ESWT,her hip pain was completely ***,the size of calcification showed almost no reduction in simple radiography at the final *** Ultrasonography is a very good modality not only for diagnosing calcified tendinitis by classical appearance,but also for evaluating the effect of ESWT during the follow-up period.

Review of the Low-Latency Optical Interconnect Technologies for Peta-Scale Computing

This paper reviews the recently developed optical interconnect technologies designed for scalable, low latency and high-throughput comunications within datacenters or high perforrmnce computers. The three typical architectures including the broadcast-and-select based Optical Shared Memory Supercomputer Interconnect System （OSMOSIS） switch, the defection routing based Data Vortex switch and the arrayed waveguide grating based Low-latency Interconnect Optical Network Switch （LIONS） switch are discussed in detail. In particular, we investigate the various Ioopback buffering technologies in LIONS and present a proof of principle testbed demonstration showing feasibility of LIONS architecture. Moreover, the performance of LIONS, Data Vortex and OSMOSIS with traditional state-of-the-art electrical switching network based on the Flattened-ButterFly （FBF） architecture in terms of throughput and latency are compared. The sinmlation based perfortmnce study shows that the latency of LIONS is almost independent of the number of input ports and does not saturate even at very high input load.

Microstructure,Elastic Modulus and Tensile Properties of Ti-Nb-O Alloy System

In the present study Ti-Nb binary alloy system was chosen because it has excellent biocompatibility as well as reasonable mechanical properties,aiming at understanding oxygen content on microstructural formation, elastic modulus and tensile properties in Ti-Nb alloy *** alloy buttons of 50 mm in diameter were prepared by arc melting on a water-cooled copper hearth under an argon gas atmosphere with a non-consumable tungsten *** button ingots were then heat treated in a vacuum atmosphere at 1273 K for 0.5 h followed by water quenching in a specially designed heat treatment ***,elastic modulus and tensile properties were investigated in order to understand the effect of oxygen content in quenched Ti- Nb alloy *** orthorhombic structuredα″martensite was changed to bcc structuredβ-phase with increasing Nb ***,it was found that oxygen makesβ-phase stable in quenched Ti-Nb alloy *** modulus values were sensitive to phase stability of constituent *** strength increased with increasing oxygen *** will be explained by phase formation and stability behavior.
