The γ-ray emission f.om the W51 complex is widely acknowledged to be attributed to the interaction between the cosmic rays (CRs) accelerated by the shock of.supernova remnant (SNR) W51C and the dense molecular clouds in the adjacent star-f.rming region, W51B. However, the maximum acceleration capability of.W51C f.r CRs remains elusive. Based on observations conducted with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), we report a signif.cant detection of.γ rays emanating f.om the W51 complex, with energies f.om 2 to 200 TeV. The LHAASO measurements, f.r the f.rst time, extend the γ-ray emission f.om the W51 complex beyond 100 TeV and reveal a signif.cant spectrum bending at tens of.TeV. By combining the "π0-decay bump" f.atured data f.om f.rmi-LAT, the broadband γ-ray spectrum of.the W51 region can be well-characterized by a simple pp-collision model. The observed spectral bending f.ature suggests an exponential cutof. at ∼400 TeV or a power-law break at ∼200 TeV in the CR proton spectrum, most likely providing the f.rst evidence of.SNRs serving as CR accelerators approaching the PeV regime. Additionally, two young star clusters within W51B could also be theoretically viable to produce the most energetic γ rays observed by LHAASO. Our f.ndings strongly support the presence of.extreme CR accelerators within the W51 complex and provide new insights into the origin of.Galactic CRs. © 2024 Science China Press

Thermoluminescence characterization of.natural and synthetic irradiated Ce-monazites

The thermoluminescence(TL)emission of.synthetic and natural Ce-monazites was characterized here to determine the potential application in the identif.cation of.microscopic def.cts f.om a qualitative point of.view trying to link each TL peak to a chemical-physical *** kinetic parameters that lead the luminescence processes were calculated by means of.variable heating rate and computing glow curve deconvolution methods and allow identif.ing three groups of.components at~90,130 and 290℃(f.r the mineral sample)and~90,170,220,270 and 320℃(f.r the synthetic CePO_(4):Nd_(0.20),La_(0.25)).The main dif.erences appreciated in these complex TL curves are mainly due to(i)the content of.impurities(natural sample contains lanthanides as well as U 0.60%and Th 5.22%)and(ii)the degree of.crystallinity of.the samples which is directly related to the type of.impurities(synthetic monazite relies only on Nd and La).The behavior of.the dose response in the range of.1-8 Gy is similar f.r both samples;the TL intensity increases linearly as the dose increases without changes in the position of.the maxima,denoting f.rst-order kinetic luminescence *** peak could be mostly associated with structural def.cts(i.e.,phase transitions),chemical reactions(i.e.,Ce3+?Ce4+redox reaction,dehydration or dehydroxylation processes)or intrinsic def.cts(i.e.,f.enkel def.cts,ODCs or NBOHCs).

Synchronized of.-harmonic probe laser with highly variable pulse duration f.r laser-plasma interaction experiments

This paper presents the development and experimental utilization of.a synchronized of.-harmonic laser system designed as a probe f.r ultra-intense laser±plasma interaction experiments. The system exhibits a novel seed-generation design,allowing f.r a variable pulse duration spanning over more than three orders of.magnitude, f.om 3.45 picoseconds to 10 nanoseconds. This makes it suitable f.r various plasma diagnostics and visualization techniques. In a side-view conf.guration, the laser was employed f.r interf.rometry and streaked shadowgraphy of.a laser-induced plasma while successf.lly suppressing the self.emission background of.the laser±plasma interaction, resulting in a signal-to-self.emission ratio of.110 f.r this setup. These properties enable the probe to yield valuable insights into the plasma dynamics and interactions at the PHELIX f.cility and to be deployed at various laser f.cilities due to its easy-to-implement design.

Stochastic seismic inversion and Bayesian f.cies classif.cation applied to porosity modeling and igneous rock identif.cation

We apply stochastic seismic inversion and Bayesian f.cies classif.cation f.r porosity modeling and igneous rock identif.cation in the presalt interval of.the Santos Basin. This integration of.seismic and well-derived inf.rmation enhances reservoir characterization. Stochastic inversion and Bayesian classif.cation are powerf.l tools because they permit addressing the uncertainties in the model. We used the ES-MDA algorithm to achieve the realizations equivalent to the percentiles P10, P50, and P90 of.acoustic impedance, a novel method f.r acoustic inversion in presalt. The f.cies were divided into f.ve: reservoir 1,reservoir 2, tight carbonates, clayey rocks, and igneous rocks. To deal with the overlaps in acoustic impedance values of.f.cies, we included geological inf.rmation using a priori probability, indicating that structural highs are reservoir-dominated. To illustrate our approach, we conducted porosity modeling using f.cies-related rock-physics models f.r rock-physics inversion in an area with a well drilled in a coquina bank and evaluated the thickness and extension of.an igneous intrusion near the carbonate-salt interf.ce. The modeled porosity and the classif.ed seismic f.cies are in good agreement with the ones observed in the wells. Notably, the coquinas bank presents an improvement in the porosity towards the top. The a priori probability model was crucial f.r limiting the clayey rocks to the structural lows. In Well B, the hit rate of.the igneous rock in the three scenarios is higher than 60%, showing an excellent thickness-prediction capability.

Coral-like structures of.the y_(3-x)Pr_(x)f._(5-y)yb_(y)O_(12),(0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04, 0.00 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) compound were synthesized using the sol-gel method. Structural investigation certif.ed the yIG cubic crystal structure f.rmation, without any secondary phase. It is shown that, the relatively large ionic radius of.the dopant cations results in an expansion of.the lattice parameter, variations in the Iona-O-Iondangle, Iona-O,Iond-O and Ionc-O bond distances and decrease in the average crystallite size. f.urier transf.rm inf.ared(f.IR) and Raman measurements are essential to testif. the single-phase f.rmation of.yIG crystal structure and are observed changes in the stretching and vibrational modes, respectively. The morphological study, energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) spectra and textural properties show corallike structures, peaks associated with Pr^(3+) and yb^(3+) atoms and the ef.ect of.dopants on surf.ce area,diameter, and pore volume, respectively. The optical analysis f.om dif.use ref.ectance spectra witnessed an increase in the optical gap band, a decrease in Urbach energy and blue shif. in the charge transf.r,correlated with the expansion of.the unit cell due to the dopant's insertion in the yIG structure. A typical f.rrimagnetic behavior is exhibited by the y_(3-x)Pr_(x)f._(5-y)yb_(y)O_(12)compound. The saturation magnetization(M_(s)), cubic anisotropy constant(K_(1)) and coercive f.eld(H_(c)) increase with the Pr^(3+)cations content, as consequence of.their magnetic nature and distribution around of.f.^(3+)ions due to the coexistence with the yb^(3+). f.nally, f.r the f.rst time, antibacterial tests by mean of.the direct contact method were perf.rmed f.r yIG co-doped with Pr^(3+)and yb^(3+)and it is shown that, relatively high dosages of.Pr^(3+) cations f.vored the activity against S. aureus, theref.re, a new biological property f.r yIG doped with rare earths is presented.

Mathematical modeling and simulations of.stress mitigation by coating polycrystalline particles in lithium-ion batteries

A chemo-mechanical model is developed to investigate the ef.ects on the stress development of.the coating of.polycrystalline Ni-rich LiNixMnyCo_(z)O_(2)(x≥0.8)(NMC)particles with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT).The simulation results show that the coating of.primary NMC particles signif.cantly reduces the stress generation by ef.iciently accommodating the volume change associated with the lithium dif.usion,and the coating layer plays roles both as a cushion against the volume change and a channel f.r the lithium transport,promoting the lithium distribution across the secondary particles more ***,the lower stif.ness,higher ionic conductivity,and larger thickness of.the coating layer improve the stress *** paper provides a mathematical f.amework f.r calculating the chemo-mechanical responses of.anisotropic electrode materials and f.ndamental insights into how the coating of.NMC active particles mitigates stress levels.

The healthcare sector holds valuable and sensitive *** amount of.this data and the need to handle,exchange,and protect it,has been increasing at a f.st *** to their nature,sof.ware-def.ned networks(SDNs)are widely used in healthcare systems,as they ensure ef.ective resource utilization,saf.ty,great network management,and *** this sector,due to the value of.thedata,SDNs f.ceamajor challengeposed byawide range of.attacks,such as distributed denial of.service(DDoS)and probe *** attacks reduce network perf.rmance,causing the degradation of.dif.erent key perf.rmance indicators(KPIs)or,in the worst cases,a network f.ilure which can threaten human *** can be signif.cant,especially with the current expansion of.portable healthcare that supports mobile and wireless devices f.r what is called mobile health,or *** this study,we examine the ef.ectiveness of.using SDNs f.r def.nse against DDoS,as well as their ef.ects on dif.erent network KPIs under various *** propose a threshold-based DDoS classif.er(TBDC)technique to classif. DDoS attacks in healthcare SDNs,aiming to block traf.ic considered a hazard in the f.rm of.a DDoS *** then evaluate the accuracy and perf.rmance of.the proposed TBDC *** technique shows outstanding perf.rmance,increasing the mean throughput by 190.3%,reducing the mean delay by 95%,and reducing packet loss by 99.7%relative to normal,with DDoS attack traf.ic.
