Cavity-agnostic acoustofluidic manipulations enabled by guided flexural waves on a membrane acoustic waveguide actuator

This article presents an in-depth exploration of the acoustofluidic capabilities of guided flexural waves(GFWs)generated by a membrane acoustic waveguide actuator(MAWA).By harnessing the potential of GFWs,cavity-agnostic advanced particle manipulation functions are achieved,unlocking new avenues for microfluidic systems and lab-on-a-chip *** localized acoustofluidic effects of GFWs arising from the evanescent nature of the acoustic fields they induce inside a liquid medium are numerically investigated to highlight their unique and promising *** traditional acoustofluidic technologies,the GFWs propagating on the MAWA’s membrane waveguide allow for cavity-agnostic particle manipulation,irrespective of the resonant properties of the fluidic ***,the acoustofluidic functions enabled by the device depend on the flexural mode populating the active region of the membrane *** demonstrations using two types of particles include in-sessile-droplet particle transport,mixing,and spatial separation based on particle diameter,along with streaming-induced counter-flow virtual channel generation in microfluidic PDMS *** experiments emphasize the versatility and potential applications of the MAWA as a microfluidic platform targeted at lab-on-a-chip development and showcase the MAWA’s compatibility with existing microfluidic systems.

The effect of permeable walls and magnetic field on the peristaltic flow of a Carreau fluid in a tapered asymmetric channel is studied. The tapered asymmetric channel is normally created due to the intra-uterine fluid flow induced by myometrial contractions and it was simulated by asymmetric peristaltic fluid flow in a two-dimensional infinite non-uniform channel. The analysis has been performed under long wavelength and low- Reynolds number assumptions to linearize the governing flow equations. A series solution in respect of a small Weissenberg number is obtained for the stream function, axial pressure gradient and shear stress. Time average of pressure rise and frictional force on the upper wall has also been computed using numerical integration. The results have been presented graphically for the various interested physical parameters. It is observed that for Carreau fluids the peristalsis works as a pump against a greater pressure rise compared with a Newtonian fluid, while there exists no significant difference in free pumping flux for Newtonian and Carreau fluids in the tapered asymmetric channel.

Chlorantraniliprole seed treatments in rice provide effective suppression of rice water weevil populations in the United States; however, heavy reliance on prophylac- tic insecticide treatments as a sole strategy could destabilize management programs for this insect. The present research evaluated the compatibility of seed treatments with two other potential management tactics--plant resistance and shallow flooding-by conducting two split-plot experiments in 2009 and 2011. In both experiments, no substantial antago- nism was found among the 3 different tactics. Statistical interactions in these experiments arose from the strong and persistent effects of chlorantraniliprole on larval densities rather than incompatibility of tactics. In 2009, weevil densities differed among varieties and were significantly lower on the cultivar ＂jefferson.＂ In 2011, weevil densities were reduced sig- nificantly in shallow-flooded plots compared to deep-flooded plots. Significant reductions in weevil numbers by chlorantraniliprole seed treatments, even at application rates 5 fold lower than commercially recommended rates, demonstrated the potential to reduce appli- cation rates of this highly potent larvicide. These latter results suggest that future studies on the relationship between chlorantraniliprole seed treatment rate and weevil fitness are warranted.

In this paper, we have applied the Lie algebraic model to nano-bio molecules to determine the vibrational spectra of different stretching and bending vibrational modes. The determined vibrational energy levels by the Lie algebraic model are compared with the experimental data. The results from the theoretical mode[ are consistent with the experimental data. The vibrational energy levels are clustering in the excited states.

In this paper we propose an efcient process of physiological artifact elimination methodology from brain waves(BW),which are also commonly known as electroencephalogram(EEG)*** a clinical environment during the acquisition of BW several artifacts contaminates the actual BW *** leads to inaccurate and ambiguous *** the statistical nature of the EEG signal is more non-stationery,adaptive ltering is the more promising method for the process of artifact *** clinical conditions,the conventional adaptive techniques require many numbers of computational operations and leads to data samples overlapping and instability of the algorithm *** causes delay in diagnosis and decision *** overcome this problem in our work we propose to set a threshold value to diminish the problem of round off *** resultant adaptive algorithm based on this strategy is Non-linear Least mean square(NL2MS)***,to improve this algorithm in terms of ltering capability we perform data normalization,using this algorithm several hybrid versions are developed to improve ltering and reduce computational *** the method,a new signal enhancement unit(SEU)is realized and performance of various hybrid versions of algorithms examined using real EEG signals recorded from the *** ability of the proposed schemes is measured in terms of convergence,enhancement and multiplications *** various SEUs,the MCN2L 2MS algorithm achieves 14.6734,12.8732,10.9257,15.7790 dB during the artifact removal of RA,EMG,CSA and EBA components with only two ***,this algorithm seems to be better candidate for artifact elimination.

Supercapacitors formed from porous carbon and graphene-oxide(GO)materials are usually dominated by either electric double-layer capacitance,pseudo-capacitance,or *** to these combined features,reduced GO materials have been shown to offer superior capacitance over typical nanoporous carbon materials;however,there is a significant variation in reported values,ranging between 25 and 350 F g^(−1).This undermines the structure(e.g.,oxygen functionality and/or surface area)-performance relationships for optimization of cost and scalable *** work demonstrates important structure-controlled charge storage *** this,a series of exfoliated graphene(EG)derivatives are produced via thermal-shock exfoliation of GO precursors and following controlled graphitization of EG(GEG)generates materials with varied amounts of porosity,redox-active oxygen groups and graphitic *** results show significantly varied capacitance values between 30 and 250 F g^(−1)at 1.0 A g^(−1)in GEG structures;this suggests that for a given specific surface area the redox-active and hydrophilic oxygen content can boost the capacitance to 250–300%higher compared to typical mesoporous carbon *** with identical oxygen functionality show a surface area governed *** allows to establish direct structure-performance relationships between 1)redox-active oxygen functional concentration and capacitance and 2)surface area and capacitance.

Background:Adult stem cells have a remarkable capacity of differentiating into various cell types necessary for tissue and organ *** studies have focused on the differentiation potential of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),however little is known about the molecular characteristics of MSCs and their progenies obtained from donors of different *** this study,we analyzed publicly available sequencing data obtained from young(~22-year-old,n=8)and older(~65.5-year-old,n=8)donors of MSCs and their differentiated counterparts:osteocytes,chondrocytes and *** raw mRNA and small RNA(non-coding RNA)sequencing data was downloaded from NIH BioProjects and systematically analyzed in order to identify uniquely expressed genes in MSC-derived osteocytes,chondrocytes and tenocytes of younger and older ***:We identified many commonly up-and downregulated genes are similar in both ***,the young group displayed a greater variety of differentially expressed genes in all analyzed MSC-derived *** discrepancy in gene expression profiles between younger and older groups may indicate a greater differentiation potential of MSCs isolated from younger *** and mRNA integrated analysis showed key miRNAs that regulate mRNAs in both groups from all differentiated ***:Our analysis provides additional information to previously reported data for identification of MSC markers of plasticity and *** addition,our data may shed light upon the molecular mechanisms of age-associated musculoskeletal diseases caused by a decreased capacity of MSCs to regenerate the locomotor system in elderly people.

We report the overall rate, locations and predictive factors of positive surgical margins （PSMs） in 271 patients with high-risk prostate cancer. Between April 2008 and October 2011, we prospectively collected data from patients classified as D＇Amico high-risk who underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Overall rate and location of PSMs were reported. Stepwise logistic regression models were fitted to assess predictive factors of PSM. The overall rate of PSMs was 25.1% （68 of 271 patients）. Of these PSM, 38.2% （26 of 68） were posterolateral （PL）, 26.5% （18 of 68） multifocal, 16.2% （11 of 68） in the apex, 14.7% （10 of 68） in the bladder neck, and 4.4% （3/68） in other locations. The PSM rate of patients with pathological stage pT2 was 8.6% （12 of 140）, 26.6% （17 of 64） of pT3a, 53.3% （32/60） of pT3b, and 100% （7 of 7） of pT4. In a logistic regression model including pre-, intra-, and post-operative parameters, body mass index （odds ratio [OR]. 1.09; 95% confidence interval [CI]： 1.01-1.19, P = 0.029）, pathological stage （pT3b or higher vs pT2; OR： 5.14; 95% Ch 1.92-13.78; P = 0.001） and percentage of the tumor （OR： 46.71; 95% CI： 6.37-342.57; P 〈 0.001） were independent predictive factors for PSMs. The most common location of PSMs in patients at high-risk was the PL aspect, which reflects the reported tumor aggressiveness. The only significant predictive factors of PSMs were pathological outcomes, such as percentage of the tumor in the specimen and pathological stage.
