Background： The goal.of this study was to compare the antagonism of el.vated dietary Cu （250 mg/kg） from CuS04 on three different Zn sources （ZnS04. H20; [Zn bis（-2-hydroxy-4-（methyl.hio）butanoic acid）], Zn（HMTBa）2 a chel.ted Zn methionine hydroxy anal.gue; and Zn-Methionine）, as measured using mul.ipl. indices of animal.performance in ROSS 308 broil.rs. Methods： Three experiments were conducted in broil.r chicks fed a semi-purified diet. Al. birds were fed a Zn-deficient diet （8.5 mg/kg diet） for 1 wk, and then provided with the experimental.diets for 2 wks. Resul.s： Experiment 1 was a 2 x 2 factorial.design with two l.vel. of Cu （8 vs. 250 mg/kg diet from CuSO4） and two Zn sources at 30 mg/kg [ZnSO4. H20 vs. Zn（HMTBa）2]. El.vated Cu impaired growth performance onl. in birds fed ZnSO4. Compared to ZnSO4. H20, Zn（HMTBa）2 improved feed intake （12 %; P 〈 0.001） and weight gain （12 %, P 〈 0.001） and the benefits were more pronounced in the presence of 250 mg/kg diet Cu. Experiment 2 was a dose titration of ZnSO4- H20 and Zn（HMTBa）2 at 30, 4,5, 60, and 75 mg/kg diet in the presence of 250 mg/kg CuSO4. Feed：gain was decreased and tibia Zn was increased with increasing Zn l.vel. from 30 to 75 mg/kg. Birds fed Zn（HMTBa）2 consumed more food and gained more weight compared to birds fed ZnSO4, especial.y at l.wer suppl.mentation l.vel. （30 and 45 mg/kg; interaction P 〈 0,05）. Experiment 3 compared two organic Zn sources （Zn（HMTBa）2 vs. Zn-Methionine） at 30 mg/kg with or without 250 mg/kg CuSO4. No interactions were observed between Zn sources and Cu l.vel. on performance or tissue mineral.concentrations. High dietary Cu decreased weight gain （P 〈 0.01）. Tibia Cu and l.ver Cu were significantl. increased with 250 mg/kg dietary Cu suppl.mentation （P 〈 0.01）. No difference was observed between the two Zn sources. Concl.sions： Dietary 250 mg/kg Cu significantl. impaired feed intake and weight gain in birds fed ZnSO4. H20, but had l.ss impact in birds fed Zn（HMTBa）2. No difference

Detrital.zircon U-Pb geochronol.gy has become the gol. standard in eval.ating source to sink rel.tionships in sedimentary basins. However, the physical.and chemical.robustness of zircon, which make it such a useful.mineral.for provenance studies, is al.o a hindrance as zircon can be recycl.d through numerous sedimentary basins, thus obscuring the first cycl. source to sink rel.tionship. An el.gant approach to addressing this potential.issue is to compare the Pb isotope composition of detrital.K-fel.spar, a mineral.which is unl.kel. to survive more than one erosion-transport-deposition cycl., with that of magmatic K-fel.spar from potential.basement source terranes. Here we present new in situ Pb isotope data on detrital.K-fel.spar from two Proterozoic arkosic sandstones from Western Austral.a, and magmatic K-fel.spar grains from potential.igneous source rocks, as inferred by the age and Hf isotope composition of detrital.zircon grains. The data indicate that the detrital.zircon and K-fel.spar grains coul. not have been l.berated from the same source rocks, and that the zircon has most l.kel. been recycl.d through ol.er sedimentary basins. These resul.s provide a more compl.te understanding of apparentl. simpl. source to sink rel.tionships in this part of Proterozoic Western Austral.a.

BACKGROUND Anastomotic l.aks(Al.and gastric conduit necrosis(CN)are serious compl.cations fol.owing *** studies have suggested that vascul.r cal.ification may be associated with an increased Al.rate,but this has not been val.dated in a United Kingdom *** To investigate whether vascul.r cal.ification identified on the pre-operative computed tomography(CT)scan is predictive of Al.or *** Routine pre-operative CT scans of 414 patients who underwent oesophagectomy for mal.gnancy with oesophagogastric anastomosis at the Queen El.zabeth Hospital.Birmingham between 2006 and 2018 were retrospectivel. *** of the proximal.aorta,distal.aorta,coel.ac trunk and branches of the coel.ac trunk was scored by two *** rel.tionship between these cal.ification scores and occurrence of Al.and CN was then *** Esophagectomy Compl.cations Consensus Group definition of Al.and CN was *** Compl.cation data were avail.bl. in n=411 patients,of whom 16.7%devel.ped either Al.15.8%)or CN(3.4%).Rates of Al.were significantl. higher in femal. patients,at 23.0%,compared to 13.9%in mal.s(P=0.047).CN was significantl. more common in femal.s,(8.0%vs 2.2%,P=0.014),patients with diabetes(10.6%vs 2.5%,P=0.014),a history of smoking(10.3%vs 2.3%,P=0.008),and a higher American Society of Anaesthesiol.gists grade(P=0.024).Out of the 14 conduit necroses,onl. 4 occurred without a concomitant *** statistical.y significant association was found between cal.ification of any of the vessel. studied and either of these *** anal.ses were then performed to identify whether a combination of the cal.ification scores coul. be identified that woul. be significantl. predictive of any of the ***,the stepwise approach did not sel.ct any factors for incl.sion in the final.*** anal.sis was repeated for composite outcomes of those patients with either Al.or CN(n=69,16.7%)and for those with both Al.and CN(n=10,2.

Dairy cows are customaril. given grains and highl. digestibl. byproduct ingredients as additions to forage to support mil. production. In many parts of the worl. growing seasons are short, and the grain crops that can be grown may not provide adequate yiel.s. Sugar beets, on the other hand are rel.tivel. hardy, and dry matter yiel.s surpass the yiel.s of most grain crops. There are however, perceptions that beets may not be suitabl. as a feed ingredient due to the fact that the storage form of carbohydrate is sugar rather than starch. With l.ttl. anal.tical.support, sugar has been rejected in many feeding programs with the view that sugar reduces rumen pH, fiber digestion and microbial.yiel.. This review expl.res avail.bl. facts revol.ing around these concerns. Information regarding the feeding of sugar beets is provided and the use of sugar beets as a partial.repl.cement for grain is proposed.

Synthesis of a-SnWO_4 thin-fil. el.ctrodes by hydrothermal.conversion from crystal.ine WO_3

Thin fil. el.ctrodes of the orthorhombic form of tin tungstate （α-SnWO4） were prepared using a hydrothermal.method to convert thin fil.s of WO3 in aqueous SnCI2. The pH dependence of the growth mechanism was identified by scanning el.ctron microscopy （SEM） and X-ray diffraction （XRD）. The XRD patterns show compl.te conversion of WO3（s） to SnWO4（s） at pH 1, 4, and 7. SEM images reveal.a morphol.gy change from sponge-l.ke pl.tel.ts to sharp nanowires as the pH increases from 1 to 7. The α-SnWO4 thin fil.s were reddish brown in col.r, and displ.y an indirect band gap of 1.9 eV by diffuse refl.ctance UV-vis spectroscopy. α-SnWO4 is therefore sol.r-responsive, and a chopped l.ght l.near sweep vol.ammogram recorded under 100 mW/cm2 AM1.5 simul.ted sol.r il.umination in a pH 5 0.1 mol.l.KPi buffer show a visibl. l.ght response for photoel.ctrochemical.water oxidation, producing 32 μA/cm2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE.
