Effect of friction stir processed microstructure on tensile properties of an Al-Zn-Mg-sc alloy upon subsequent aging heat treatment

An as-cast Al-Zn-Mg-sc alloy was friction stir processed varying tool related parameters, yielding microstructures with different grain sizes （0.68, 1.8 and 5.5 μm）. significant increases in room temperature ductility were obtained in these materials with reasonable enhancement in strength. It is demonstrated that the type of microstructure produced by friction stir processing （FsP） has a significant influence on the choice of post-FsP heat treatment design for achieving improved tensile properties. It is also found that the ultrafine grained FsP material could not achieve the desired high strength during the post-FsP heat treatment without grain coarsening, whereas the micro-grained FsP materials could reach such strength levels （〉560 MPa） under conventional age hardening heat treatment conditions.

The volatilization of zinc and lead from the stainless steel making dust pellets in the direct recycling procedure was conducted by using a thermo-gravimetric analyzer and a Tamman furnace in the nitrogen atmosphere respectively. The results show that the temperature has a significant effect on the volatilization rates of zinc and lead, and the carbon content in the pellets has no effect on the volatilization process. The volatilization of zinc is controlled by the chemical reaction between zinc oxide and carbon monoxide, while the volatilization of lead is controlled by the evaporation from liquid phase to the atmosphere. The volatilization of zinc and lead mainly happen at about 1 000 ℃ according to non-isothermal experiment.

Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in Europe and other Western countries,mainly due to the lack of wellvalidated clinically useful biomarkers with enough sensitivity and specificity to detect this disease at early *** it is well known that the pathogenesis of CRC is a progressive accumulation of mutations in multiple genes,much less is known at the proteome ***,in the last years many proteomic studies have been conducted to find new candidate protein biomarkers for diagnosis,prognosis and as therapeutic targets for this malignancy,as well as to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of colorectal *** important advantage of the proteomic approaches is the capacity to look for multiple differentially expressed proteins in a single *** review provides an overview of the recent reports describing the different proteomic tools used for the discovery of new protein markers for CRC such as two-dimensional electrophoresis methods,quantitative mass spectrometry-based techniques or protein ***,we will also focus on the diverse biological samples used for CRC biomarker discovery such as tissue,serum and faeces,besides cell lines and murine models,discussing their advantages and disadvantages,and summarize the most frequently identified candidate CRC markers.

The effect of extrusion on grain refinement has been studied in the AZ91 cast ingots. It is found that grain sizesmaller than 10μm can be obtained by the extrusion processing. Vickers hardness measurements were also carriedout to evaluate the effect of these processes on the room temperature mechanical properties. The experimentalresults of high temperature tensile tests revealed that the stress was inversely proportional to the square of the grainsize and that the activation energy for superplastic flow was higher than that for grain boundary diffusion.

A simple, low cost, easily maintained, and reliable field distortion spark gap has been developed to operate at a voltage up to 30 kV. The header construction necessary to attach the spark gap switch to a single 12.5 μF, 40 kV （10 k j） capacitor is described. The main features of the spark gap are its wide range of voltage operation, high current capacity, low inductance and long lifetime. The performance of spark gap has been tested in a plasma focus and results are presented in this report.

Bioactive calcium phosphate coatings were deposited by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering from biphasic targets of hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate,sintered at different mass%*** to Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction data,the deposited hydroxyapatite coatings have a disordered ***-temperature treatment of the coatings in air leads to a transformation of the quasi-amorphous structure into a crystalline one.A correlation has been observed between the increase in the Ca content in the coatings and a subsequent decrease in Ca in the biphasic targets after a series of deposition *** was proposed that the addition of tricalcium phosphate to the targets would led to a finer coating's surface topography with the average size of 78 nm for the structural elements.

Compacted clay liners are an integral part of the waste landfills,which are provided to contain the leachate within the landfills and protect the surrounding ***,locally available natural soils are used for the construction of compacted clay liners if they satisfy the design ***,not all soils in their natural state satisfy all the design criteria for the liner ***,there is a definite need to modify the locally available natural soils by blending with bentonite to meet the required design criteria for the *** view of this,the present study evaluates the suitability of an Indian red soil enhanced with bentonite as a liner *** achieve this,a series of experiments were carried out using locally available red soil and ***,the suitability of the red soil was evaluated as a liner *** experimental results showed that the red soil met all the selection criteria stipulated by the Environmental Protection Agencies(EPAs)for the liners except the hydraulic conductivity ***,the red soil was mixed with bentonite contents of 10%,20%and 30%,and the red soil-bentonite mixtures were evaluated for their suitability for liners in their compacted ***,as the liners in the arid and semi-arid regions are subjected to moisture variations due to seasonal moisture fluctuations and other factors,the red soil-bentonite mixtures were subjected to wetdry cycles,and their suitability was evaluated after wet-dry *** experimental results revealed that all the red soil-bentonite mixtures met the stipulated EPA criteria for the liners in the as-compacted ***,the red soil-bentonite mixtures with 20%and 30%bentonite contents only satisfied the hydraulic conductivity requirement even after wet-dry *** experimental findings were supplemented with the microstructural insights captured through digital camera images,scanning electron microscopy(sEM),and mercury intrusion porosimetry(M
