Polymersome formation by solvent annealing-induced structural reengineering under 3D soft confinement

A solvent annealing-induced structural reengineering approach is exploited to fabricate polymersomes from block copolymers that are hard to form vesicles through the traditional solution self-assembly *** specifically,polystyrene-b-poly(4-vinyl pyridine)(PS-b-P4VP)particles with sphere-within-sphere structure(SS particles)are prepared by three-dimensional(3D)soft-confined assembly through emulsion-solvent evaporation,followed by 3D soft-confined solvent annealing upon the SS particles in aqueous dispersions for structural engineering.A water-miscible solvent(e.g.,THF)is employed for annealing,which results in dramatic transitions of the assemblies,e.g.,from SS particles to *** approach works for PS-b-P4VP in a wide range of block ***,this method enables effective encapsulation/loading of cargoes such as fluorescent dyes and metal nanoparticles,which offers a new route to prepare polymersomes that could be applied for cargo release,diagnostic imaging,and nanoreactor,etc.

Green planning is critically important during the design phases of construction projects but continually gets less attention during *** owners and planners need to understand how communication influences green *** address a gap in the extant research,this paper presents the evaluation results on how sustainability awareness of field supervision personnel impacts the successful completion of school projects by proving that communicating sustainability goals with them is vital for decision-making during the construction stage of the *** paper uses data collected from 162 new school construction projects to compare sustainability design goals with their successful incorporation into completed ***-one project managers and inspectors were surveyed to assess their awareness of key high-performance sustainability requirements that were built into the *** responses from these two groups were compared to examine the positive or negative *** analysis results show that early and continuous communication of sustainability design goals with field supervision personnel has a significant impact on whether those goals are realized when the project is turned over to the owner for *** implementation of sustainability goals not only provides economic benefits from fully exploiting life-cycle costs,but also holds the promise of providing a healthier working environment.

In lattice Boltzmann methods, disturbances develop at the initial stages of the simulation, the decay characteristics depend mainly on boundary treatment methods; open boundary conditions such as equilibrium and bounce-back schemes potentially generate uncontrollable disturbances. Excessive disturbances originate from non-physical reflecting waves at boundaries. Characteristic boundary conditions utilizing the signs of waves at boundaries which suppress these reflecting waves, as well as their implementation in the lattice Boltzmann method, are introduced herein. The performance of our novel boundary treatment method to effectively suppress excessive disturbances is verified by three different numerical experiments.

Graphene, a single atomic layer of sp2-hybridized carbon, has immense potential as a transparent conducting material in electronic applications owing to its superior properties, including optical transparency and high conductivity. Particularly, the tunable work function of graphene enables the integration of graphene electrodes with various electronic devices. To achieve high performance in graphene-based devices, effective charge transport between the graphene electrode and the semiconducting material needs to be optimized; this is closely related to the modulation of the Schottky barrier （SB）. In this study, we investigate the ~nable charge transport properties as a function of graphene doping in n-channel thin-film transistors （TFTs） in terms of the electrical characteristics and low-frequency noise （LFN） behaviors. Alkali metal carbonates tuned the work function of graphene, resulting in a dramatic decrease in the SB and an improvement of the carrier injection in n-channel TFTs. The electrical performance of the TFTs was evaluated by extraction of the field-effect mobilities and ratio of contact resistance to total resistance. Furthermore, the level of contact noise created by the barrier height fluctuation and relative contribution of channel noise and contact noise in the TFTs was investigated by LFN measurements to demonstrate the ~nable charge transport. Our findings therefore provide new insights into the tunable charge transport mechanism in graphene-based devices and reveal the immense potential of graphene as electrodes in high performance flexible and transparent displays.

Aim: To evaluate the prognostic significance of CD24 expression in patients undergoing adjuvant chemoradiotherapy for extrahepatic bile duct (EHBD) cancer. METHODS: Eighty-four patients with EHBD cancer who underwent curative resection followed by adjuvant chemoradiotherapy were enrolled in this study. Postoperative radiotherapy was delivered to the tumor bed and regional lymph nodes up to a median of 40 Gy (range: 40-56 Gy). All patients also received fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy for radiosensitization during radiotherapy. CD24 expression was assessed with immunohistochemical staining on tissue microarray. Clinicopathologic factors as well as CD24 expression were evaluated in multivariate analysis for clinical outcomes including loco-regional recurrence, distant metastasisfree and overall survival. RESULTS: CD24 was expressed in 36 patients (42.9%). CD24 expression was associated with distant metastasis, but not with loco-regional recurrence nor with overall survival. The 5-year distant metastasis-free survival rates were 55.1% and 29.0% in patients with negative and positive expression, respectively (P=0.0100). On multivariate analysis incorporating N stage, histologic differentiation and CD24 expression, N stage was the only significant factor predicting distant metastasis-free survival (P=0.0089), while CD24 expression had borderline significance (P=0.0733). In subgroup analysis, CD24 expression was significantly associated with 5-year distant metastasis-free survival in node-positive patients (38.4% with negative expression vs 0% with positive expression, P=0.0110), but not in nodenegative patients (62.0% with negative expression vs 64.0% with positive expression,P=0.8599). CONCLUSION: CD24 expression was a significant predictor of distant metastasis for patients undergoing curative resection followed by adjuvant chemoradiotherapy especially for node-positive EHBD cancer.

The development of sulfur cathodes with high areal capacity and high energy density is crucial for the practical application of lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs).LSBs can be built by employing(ultra)high-loading sulfur cathodes,which have rarely been realized due to massive passivation and ***,microspheres of a carbon-carbon nitride composite(C@CN)with large mesopores are fabricated via molecular cooperative *** the C@CN-based electrodes,the effects of the large mesopores and N-functional groups on the electrochemical behavior of sulfur in LSB cells are thoroughly investigated under ultrahigh sulfur-loading conditions(>15 mgS cm^(-2)).Furthermore,for high-energy-density LSBs,the C@CN powders are pelletized into a thick free-standing electrode(thickness:500^m;diameter:11 mm)via a simple briquette process;here,the total amount of energy stored by the LSB cells is 39 mWh,corresponding to a volumetric energy density of 440 Wh L-1 with an areal capacity of 24.9 and 17.5 mAh cm^(-2) at 0.47 and 4.7 mA cm^(-2),respectively(at 24mgS cm^(-2)).These results have significantly surpassed most recent records due to the synergy among the large mesopores,(poly)sulfide-philic surfaces,and thick *** developed strategy with its potential for scale-up successfully fills the gap between laboratory-scale cells and practical cells without sacrificing the high areal capacity and high energy density,providing a solid foundation for the development of practical LSBs.
