AIM:To provide a comprehensive and more representative national data on the disease,especially on treatment options and outcomes,and to determine access of retinoblastoma patients from Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao to eye care,and determine if access is associated with delay in consultation,staging and ***:Cohort study of retinoblastoma patients seen in eleven institutions located in the three major areas of the Philippines namely Luzon,Vizayas and Mindanao from ***:Totally 636 patients,involving 821 eyes,were ***(57%)were from Luzon and were seen in institutions in Luzon(72%).Annually,58±10 new cases were seen with 71%having unilateral *** delay of consultation remained long at 9(3,17)mo,longest in patients with unilateral disease(Png System,only 35%of patients had Stage 1 while 47%already had extraocular *** was the most common treatment received by 484 patients while intravenous chemotherapy was received by *** were 250(39%)patients alive,195(31%)dead,85(13%)abandoned,17(3%)refused and 89(14%)with no ***:This study presents the largest cohort of retinoblastoma patients in the Philippines in terms of patients’and participating institutions’number and geographical location and type of institution(private and public).It also presents more comprehensive data on the treatments used and outcomes(survival,globe salvage,and vision retention rates).Delay in consultation was still long among patients leading to advanced disease stage and lower survival *** increasing capacity to diagnose and manage retinoblastoma in the country,the delay of consultation remains long primarily due to accessibility issues to eye care institutions especially in the Visayas and financial *** delay was still significant that overall survival rate remain low.

Chronic hepatitis C infection in the USA is a highly morbid condition and current guidelines recommend one-time screening among the birth cohort(1945-1965).Understand-ing strategies to optimize screening can help inform future hepatitis C virus(HCV)screening guidelines.A focused literature search was performed using PubMed and manual abstract review from major hepatology conferences over the past 2 *** search strategy involved using Medical Subject Headings terms for hepatitis C,screening,birth cohort,baby boomers,and *** review was limited to data from the USA.A total of 327 articles were identified and 36 abstracts were included,with studies published between *** including clinician education,electronic medical record alerts,reflex HCV RNA testing,point-of-care testing,multisite(outpatient,inpatient,emergency department,endoscopy suite)initiatives,direct patient solicitation,and utilization of non-physician providers have increased HCV screening ***,broad imple-mentation remains less than *** include lack of patient acceptance to screening and engagement in the HCV care *** Veterans Affairs Healthcare System has achieved higher birth cohort screening rates through an integrated approach requiring high-level engagement by leadership and institutional *** strategies for increasing birth cohort screening have been successful,but overall rates of HCV screening remain *** strat-egies can inform public health efforts to implement emerging national recommendations for expansion of HCV screening to all *** age 18 or older.

In this study, we assessed biochemical outcomes after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy （RARP）. Between july 2005 and November 2007, one hundred and seventy-six consecutive patients treated by RARP without neoadjuvant treatment were included in this study. All procedures were performed by a single surgeon and the median follow-up period was 60 months （interquartile range （IQR）： 59-69）. The median prostate specific antigen was 7.50 ng ml-1 （IQR： 5.14-11.45） and 39.2% of the patients were classified as intermediate risk and 15.3% were classified as high risk; on final pathological examination, 35.2% of the patients had non-organ confined disease and 37.5% and 14.2% had Gleason scores of 7 and 8-10, respectively. The biochemical recurrence （BCR）-free survival rates at 3 and 5 years were 85.6% and 81.2%, respectively. The 5-year BCR-free survival rates stratified by pathologic Gleason scores were 93.1% in Gleason scores of 6 or less, 74.5% in a Gleason score of 7, and 58.1% in Gleason scores of 8 or greater, respectively （P〈0.001）. When stratified by pathologic stage, the BCR-free survival rates were 89.8% in pT2 patients, 66.2% in pT3a patients, and 39.3% in pT3b patients at 5 years following RARP, respectively （P〈0.001）. Preoperative prostate-specific antigen （PSA）, pathologic stage, postoperative Gleason score and surgical margin status were independently associated with BCR in multivariate analysis. In this study, we report biochemical outcomes after RARP with the longest follow-up periods to date in Asian men. We found that robotic surgery provided satisfactory biochemical outcomes, and that RARP is a safe and effective procedure in terms of oncologic outcomes.

The mechanical performances and water retention characteristics of clays,stabilised by partial substitution of cement with by-products and inclusion of a nanotechnology-based additive called RoadCem(RC),are studied in this *** unconfined compression tests and one-dimensional oedometer swelling were performed after 7 d of curing to understand the influence of addition of 1%of RC material in the stabilised soils with the cement partially replaced by 49%,59%and 69%of ground granulated blast furnace slag(GBBS)or pulverised fuel ash(PFA).The moisture retention capacity of the stabilised clays was also explored using the soil-water retention curve(SWRC)from the measured *** confirmed an obvious effect of the use of RC with the obtained strength and swell properties of the stabilised clays suitable for road application at 50%replacement of *** outcome is associated with the in-depth and penetrating hydration of the cementitious materials by the RC and water which results in the production of needle-like matrix with interlocking filaments e a phenomenon referred to as the‘wrapping’*** the other hand,the SWRC used to describe the water holding capacity and corresponding swell mechanism of clays stabilised by a proportion of RC showed a satisfactory *** moisture retention of the RC-modified clays was initially higher but reduced subsequently as the saturation level increased with decreasing *** phenomenon confirmed that clays stabilised by including the RC are water-proof in nature,thus ensuring reduced porosity and suction even at reduced water ***,the stabilised clays with the combination of cement,GGBS and RC showed a better performance compared to those with the PFA included.
