Boosting the catalytic activity toward oxygen reduction via a heterostructure of porous iron oxide-decorated 2D NiO/ng nanosheets

As a noble metal substitute,two-dimensional(2D)hierarchical nano-frame structures have attracted great interest as candidate catalysts due to their remarkable advantages-high intrinsic activity,high electron mobility,and straightforward surface ***,they may replace Pt-based catalysts in oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)***,a simple method is developed to design hierarchical nano-frame structures assembled via 2D NiO and N-doped graphene(ng)*** procedure can yield nanostructures that satisfy the criteria correlated with improved electrocatalytic performance,such as large surface area,numerous undercoordinated atoms,and high defect ***,porous ng nanosheet architectures,featuring NiO nanosheets densely coordinated with accessible holey Fe_(2)O_(3) moieties,can enhance mesoporosity and balance *** improvements can facilitate charge transport and expose formerly inaccessible reaction sites,maximizing active site density *** functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal favored O_(2) adsorption and dissociation on Fe_(2)O_(3) hybrid structures when supported by 2D NiO and ng nanomaterials,given 2D materials donated charge to Fe_(2)O_(3) active *** systematic studies reveal that synergistic contributions are responsible for enriching the catalytic activity of Fe_(2)O_(3)@NiO/ng in alkaline media-encompassing internal voids and pores,unique hierarchical support structures,and concentrated N-dopant and bimetallic atomic ***,this work expands the toolbox for designing and synthesizing highly efficient 2D/2D shelled functional nanomaterials with transition metals,endeavoring to benefit energy conversion and related ORR applications.

Tetramic acid-motif natural products from a marine fungus Tolypocladium cylindrosporum FB06 and their anti-Parkinson activities

Tetramic acid-containing natural products are attracting significantly increasing attention from biologists and chemists due to their intriguing structures and biological *** the present study,two new tetramic acid alkaloids tolypyridone I(1)and tolypyridone j(2),together with five known ones(3–7),were isolated from cultures of a marine fungus Tolypocladium cylindrosporum FB06 isolate obtained from a marine sediment in Beaufort sea of North *** structures were elucidated using 1D,2D NMR,and *** configurations were established on the basis of 1H coupling constants,ROESY correlations and DP4 *** 2 was isolated as mixtures of rotational isomers with C-3 to C-7 axis between 4-hydroxy-2-pyridone and 1-ethyl-3,5-dimethylcyclohexane,hindering *** our unbiased screening to discover neuroprotective compounds in an in vitro Parkinson’s disease(PD)model,SH-SY5Y dopaminergic cells were treated with isolated compounds followed by treatment with 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium(MPP^(+)),a parkinsonian *** tested compounds,F-14329(7)significantly protected cells from MPP^(+)-induced ***^(+)-mediated cell death is known to be related to the regulation of Bcl-2 family proteins,specifically the down-regulation of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 and the up-regulation of pro-apoptotic Bax *** with 2 mmol/L of MPP^(+)for 24 h significantly reduced Bcl-2 levels compared to control treated with ***,treatment with F-14329(7)attenuated such *** study demonstrates that tetramic acid-motif compounds could be potential lead compounds for treating PD.

Amid the growing interest in triboelectric nanogenerators(TEngs)as novel energy-harvesting devices,several studies have focused on direct current(DC)TEngs to generate a stable DC output for operating electronic ***,owing to the working mechanisms of conventional DC TEngs,generating a stable DC output from reciprocating motion remains a ***,we propose a bidirectional rotating DC TEng(BiR-TEng),which can generate DC outputs,regardless of the direction of rotation,from reciprocating *** distinct design of the BiR-TEng enables the mechanical rectification of the alternating current output into a rotational-direction-dependent DC ***,it allows the conversion of the rotational-direction-dependent DC output into a unidirectional DC output by adapting the configurations depending on the rotational *** to these tailored design strategies and subsequent optimizations,the BiR-TEng could generate an effective unidirectional DC *** of the BiR-TEng for the reciprocating motions of swinging doors and waves were demonstrated by harnessing this *** study demonstrates the potential of the BiR-TEng design strategy as an effective and versatile solution for energy harvesting from reciprocating motions,highlighting the suitability of DC outputs as an energy source for electronic devices.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that causes paralysis and respiratory failure(Petrov et al.,2017).The driving mechanisms are unknown,and there are no effective treatments(Petrov et al.,2017).Aging and a few gene mutations,a common one being missense mutations in superoxide dismutase-1(SOD1),are risk factors for ALS(Figure 1).The recent Food and Drug Administration approval of edaravone for the treatment of ALS putatively supports a role for oxidative and nitrative stresses in the disease processes(Figure 1A).DNA damage,abnormalities in DNA repair,and other nuclear abnormalities are implicated also in the pathogenesis of human ALS(Bradley and Krasin,1982;kim et al.,2020).

Aqueous-processable,naphthalene diimide-based polymers for eco-friendly fabrication of high-performance,n-type organic electrolyte-gated transistors

Organic electrolyte-gated transistors(OEGTs) have the benefits of low power consumption and large current ***,the electrical performance of n-type OEGTs lags far behind that of p-type *** this study,we design a series of polymers,P(NDITEG-T) and P(NDIMTEG-T),comprising a naphthalene diimide backbone for n-type charge transport and oligo(ethylene glycol)(OEG) side chains for high ionic conductivity and eco-friendly solution *** incorporation of the OEG chain facilitates the electrochemical doping of the semiconductor by ions to realize high-performance,n-type ***,in OEGTs,P(NDITEG-T) achieves a high electron mobility of 1.0 × 10^(-1) cm^(2) V^(-1) s^(-1),which represents the highest value reported for solution-processed,n-type *** is noted that the fabrication of the OEGTs is achieved by solution processing with eco-friendly ethanol/water mixtures in virtue of the hydrophilic OEG *** work demonstrates the molecular design of the P(NDITEG-T) polymer and its significant ability to produce aqueous-processable,high-performance,and n-type OEGTs.

AIM: To examine whether the reversibility of chronic cyclosporine A (CsA) nephrotoxicity is associated with apoptotic cell death and its regulatory factors. METHODS: Chronic CsA nephrotoxicity was induced in Sprague- Dawley rats by administering CsA (15 mg/kg, sc) for 5 weeks, and then withdrawing it for 5 or 10 weeks. The effect of CsA withdrawal on apoptotic cell death was evaluated by an in situ TdT-mediated deoxyuridine triphos- phate-biotin nick end-labeling (TUNEL) assay and the expression of pro-apoptotic [(transforming growth factor- beta1 (TGF-β1) and Fas] and anti-apoptotic [epidermal growth factors (EGF) and Bcl-2] factors. RESULTS: Discontinuation of CsA induced significant decreases in TUNEL-positive cells in a time-dependent manner and the reduction in TUNEL-positive cells was correlated with the tubulointerstitial fibrosis score (r=0.919, Pnges in the expression of pro-apoptotic and anti-apoptotic molecules involved in renal wound repair. This may constitute one of the mechanisms underlying the reversibility of chronic CsA nephrotoxicity.

Improved corrosion resistance of Mg alloy AZ31B induced by selective evaporation of Mg using large pulsed electron beam irradiation

Large pulsed electron beam(LPEB) irradiation was employed as a surface treatment of magnesium(Mg)alloy AZ31B to enhance its corrosion and wear resistance. Selective evaporation of Mg induced by LPEB irradiation at an energy density of 5j/cm^2 for 40 cycles has led to the formation of an Al-enriched resolidified layer with nano-grained structure consisting of Mg3.1 Al0.9 metastable phase. The formation of such a re-solidified layer after LPEB irradiation has enabled a decrease in corrosion rate of Mg alloy AZ31B in 3.5% NaCl solution. Different equivalent electrical circuit models were proposed to account for the corrosion behavior of untreated Mg alloy AZ31B and those subjected to LPEB irradiation. A decrease in wear depth when compared to that of the untreated alloy suggests an increase in wear resistance of LPEB-irradiated Mg alloy AZ31B. Adhesive wear is the predominant mechanism of untreated Mg alloy AZ31B while abrasive wear mechanism dominates for LPEB-irradiated Mg alloy AZ31B.
