A system-on-chip microwave photonic processor solves dynamic RF interference in real time with picosecond latency

Radio-frequency interference is a growing concern as wireless technology advances,with potentially life-threatening consequences like interference between radar altimeters and 5 G cellular *** transceivers mix signals with varying ratios over time,posing challenges for conventional digital signal processing(DSP)due to its high *** challenges will worsen as future wireless technologies adopt higher carrier frequencies and data ***,conventional DSPs,already on the brink of their clock frequency limit,are expected to offer only marginal speed *** paper introduces a photonic processor to address dynamic interference through blind source separation(BSS).Our system-on-chip processor employs a fully integrated photonic signal pathway in the analogue domain,enabling rapid demixing of received mixtures and recovering the signal-of-interest in under 15 *** reduction in latency surpasses electronic counterparts by more than three orders of *** complement the photonic processor,electronic peripherals based on field-programmable gate array(FPGA)assess the effectiveness of demixing and continuously update demixing weights at a rate of up to 305 *** compact setup features precise dithering weight control,impedance-controlled circuit board and optical fibre packaging,suitable for handheld and mobile *** experimentally demonstrate the processor’s ability to suppress transmission errors and maintain signal-to-noise ratios in two scenarios,radar altimeters and mobile *** work pioneers the real-time adaptability of integrated silicon photonics,enabling online learning and weight adjustments,and showcasing practical operational applications for photonic processing.

Interfacial engineering of metallic rhodium by thiol modification approach for ambient electrosynthesis of ammonia

Here we report a vapor-phase reaction approach to fabricate rhodium(I)-dodecanethiol complex coated on carbon fiber cloth(Rh(I)-SC_(12)H_(25)/CFC),followed by low-temperature pyrolysis to achieve dodecanethiol modified Rh(Rh@SC_(12)H_(2)5/CFC)for electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction(nRR).The results demonstrate that after pyrolysis for 0.5 h at 150℃,the obtained Rh@SC_(12)H_(2)5/CFC-0.5 exhibits excellent nRR activity with an nH3 yield rate of 121.2±6.6μg∙h^(−1)∙cm^(−2)(or 137.7±7.5μg∙h^(−1)∙mgRh^(−1))and a faradaic efficiency(FE)of 51.6%±3.8%at−0.2 V(***)in 0.1 M na_(2)SO_(4).The theoretical calculations unveil that the adsorption of dodecanethiol on the hollow sites of Rh(111)plane is thermodynamically favorable,effectively regulating the electronic structure and surface wettability of metallic ***,the dodecanethiol modification on Rh(111)obviously decreases the surface H*coverage,thus inhibiting the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction and concurrently reducing the electrocatalytic nRR energy barrier.

Although MXenes is highly attractive as anode materials of lithium ion batteries,it sets a bottleneck for higher capacity of the V2CTxMXene due to the limited interlayer space and the derived surface ***,the cation intercalation and ion-exchange were well employed to achieve a K+and Ca2+intercalated V2CTxMXene.A larger interlayer distance and low F surface terminations were thereof obtained,which accelerates the ion transport and promotes the delicate surface of V2CTx *** a result,a package of enhanced capacity,rate performance and cyclability can be ***,the ion exchange approach can be extended to other 2 D layered materials,and both the interlayer control and the surface modification will be achieved.

A new signal readout method for position-sensitive multi-output detectors,such as those in high-energy spectroscopy measurement and nuclear imaging,was developed by combining the charge division circuit,summing circuit and charge-to-time conversion(QTC) *** 64 outputs of a Hamamatsu H8500 position-sensitive photomultiplier tube were processed,and three digital pulses were *** widths of digital pulses were determined using the time-to-digital converter in an field programmable gate *** energy and position information of incident y-rays is estimated based on the proportionality between the width of digital pulses and input charge created by y-photons.A prototype was built using discrete components and tested,and the energy and position resolutions were improved compared with that obtained with standard *** method greatly simplifies the front-end electronics and the digital *** enables a compact electronics system and an easy integration into an ASIC.

Confinement of ionomer for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction via efficient mass transfer pathways

Gas diffusion electrodes（GDEs） mediate the transport of reactants, products and electrons for the electrocatalytic CO2reduction reaction（CO2RR） in membrane electrode assemblies. The random distribution of ionomer, added by the traditional physical mixing method, in the catalyst layer of GDEs affects the transport of ions and CO2. Such a phenomenon results in elevated cell voltage and decaying selectivity at high current densities. This paper describes a pre-confinement method to construct GDEs with homogeneously distributed ionomer, which enhances mass transfer locally at the active centers. The optimized GDE exhibited comparatively low cell voltages and high CO Faradaic efficiencies（FE > 90%） at a wide range of current densities. It can also operate stably for over 220 h with the cell voltage staying almost unchanged. This good performance can be preserved even with diluted CO2feeds, which is essential for pursuing a high single-pass conversion rate. This study provides a new approach to building efficient mass transfer pathways for ions and reactants in GDEs to promote the electrocatalytic CO2RR for practical applications.

Calculation of the wide-angle neutron spectra from the ~9Be(d,xn) reaction in a thick beryllium target

The multi-layer computing model is developed to calculate wide-angle neutron spectra, in the range from0° to 180° with a 5° step, produced by bombarding a thick beryllium target with deuterons. The double-differential cross-sections(DDCSs) for the ~9 Be(d, xn) reaction are calculated using the TALYS-1.8 code. They are in agreement with the experimental data, and are much better than the PHITS-jQMD/GEM results at 15°, 30°, 45° and 60° neutron emission angles for deuteron energy of 10.0 MeV. In the TALYS-1.8 code, neutron contributions from direct reactions(break-up, stripping and knock-out reactions) are controlled by adjustable parameters, which describe the basic characteristics of typical direct reactions and control the relative intensity and the position of the ridgy hillock at the tail of DDCSs. It is found that the typical calculated wide-angle neutron spectra for different neutron emission angles and neutron angular distributions agree quite well with the experimental data for 13.5 MeV deuterons. The multi-layer computing model can reproduce the experimental data reasonably well by optimizing the adjustable parameters in the TALYS-1.8 code. Given the good agreement with the experimental data, the multi-layer computing model could provide better predictions of wide-angle neutron energy spectra, neutron angular distributions and neutron yields for the ~9 Be(d, xn) reaction neutron source.

Study on time-dependent lattice to alleviate space charge effects in CSnS/RCS

Purpose Tune shift and spread due to the space charge effects and collective instabilities in intense proton synchrotrons,such as the CSnS/RCS,a rapid cycling synchrotron at China Spallation neutron Source,are the main causes of beam *** shift/spread is large when the beam kinetic energy is low and will cause particles to cross dangerous resonances,while they will gradually decay with the increase of kinetic *** An efficient way,which was verified in operational accelerators,is to tune the working point during different acceleration periods:injection,acceleration and *** the newly added function of time-dependent lattice in the ORBIT code,one can simulate the physical performance with different tune patterns to find the best way to reduce beam *** The method to tune the working point by time-dependent lattice to weaken the crossing of dangerous resonances has been exploited,and implemented in the ORBIT *** is the first of such try to apply the method in CSnS/*** The results presented in this paper show that the time-dependent lattice method does help reduce beam loss in the injection and early acceleration.

A popular explicit analytic Borowy 2C PV module model is proposed for power generation *** maximum power point and the open-circuit point which are calculated in this model cannot be equal to the data given by manufacturers under standard test condition(STC).The derivation of this model has never been mentioned in any *** parameter forms of 2C model in this paper are more simplified,and the model is decomposed into a STC sub-model and an incremental *** STC model is derived successfully from an ideal single-diode circuit *** error estimations are developed to do the conformity error *** analysis results showed that though the biases at those critical points are very small,the conformity will depend on both of the two ratio values I_(m)/I_(sc) and V_(m)/V_(oc),which can be used to verify whether 2C model is applicable for the PV module produced by a particular manufacturer.

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer(DAMPE) is a space-borne apparatus for detecting the highenergy cosmic-ray-like electrons, γ-rays, protons and heavy ions. The Plastic Scintillator Detector(PSD)is the top-most sub-detector of the DAMPE. The PSD is designed to measure the charge of incident highenergy particles and it also serves as a veto detector for discriminating γ-rays from charged particles. In this paper, a PSD on-orbit calibration procedure is described, which includes the five steps of pedestal, dynode correlation, response to minimum-ionizing particles, light attenuation function and energy reconstruction.A method for reconstructing the charge of incident high energy cosmic-ray particles is introduced. The detection efficiency of each PSD strip is verified to be above 99.5%; the total efficiency of the PSD for charged particles is above 99.99%.
