Among the impacts of climate change,there is the intensification of phenomena such as the El Niño South-ern Oscillation(ENSO)responsible for El Niño and La Niñ***,understanding their effects on the functional pro-cesses of forests is ***,this study evaluated the effects of ENSO on litter stock and water holding capac-ity(WHc)in a successional forest in eastern *** occurred in periods with the most rainfall in El Niño(2019)and least in La Niña(2021)*** permanent plots were used to sample *** effects were evident for WHc,higher during El Niñ***,this influence was not clear for litter,as only in the rainy season effects were *** was a positive correlation of WHc with precipitation and humidity,while litter stocks were negatively correlated with temperature and wind *** the subject of this study requires long-term assessments,preliminary results suggests that,depending on the intensity of ENSO,forest functional processes can be strongly impacted and *** conclusion reinforces warnings by the scientific community about the impacts of climate change on the maintenance of litter stocks,decomposition and,consequently,the biogeochemical cycle and essential ecosystem services for the maintenance of Amazonia *** need to develop long-term research to understand the effects of climatic change on litter stocks and water holding capacity is highlighted,especially in Amazonia.

Interaction between diet and genetics in patients with inflammatory bowel disease

In this editorial,we comment on the article by Marangoni et al,published in the recent issue of the World journal of Gastroenterology 2023;29:5618-5629,about“Diet as an epigenetic factor in inflammatory bowel disease”.The authors emphasized the role of diet,especially the interaction with genetics,in promoting the inflam-matory process in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)patients,focusing on DNA methylation,histone modifications,and the influence of *** this editorial,we explore the interaction between genetics,gut microbiota,and diet,in an only ***,we provided dietary recommendations for patients with *** Western diet,characterized by a low fiber content and deficiency the micronutrients,impacts short-chain fatty acids production and may be related to the pathogenesis of *** the other hand,the consumption of the Mediter-ranean diet and dietary fibers are associated with reduced risk of IBD flares,particularly in crohn’s disease(cD)*** to the dietary guidance from the International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases(IOIBD),the regular consumption of fruits and vegetables while reducing the consumption of saturated,trans,dairy fat,additives,processed foods rich in maltodextrins,and artificial sweeteners containing sucralose or saccharine is recommended to cD *** patients with ulcerative colitis,the IOIBD recommends the increased intake of natural sources of omega-3 fatty acids and follows the same restrictive recommendations aimed at cD patients,with the possible inclusion of red *** conclusion,IBD is a complex and hetero-geneous disease,and future studies are needed to elucidate the influence of epigenetics on diet and microbiota in IBD patients.

With the increase in antimicrobial resistance,it has become necessary to explore alternative approaches for combating and preventing ***-cinnamaldehyde(cNM)and Benzyl4-amino(B4AM)are bioactive compounds derived from chalcones but with restricted solubility in aqueous *** can enhance the solubility of compounds and can be a promising alternative in the development of novel antimicrobials,with reduced side effects and prolonged *** objective of this study was to evaluate the stability of oil-in-water nanoemulsions loaded with two distinct types of chalcones at two different dosages,to propose a stable formulation with antimicrobial *** showed that nanoemulsions presented high encapsulation efficiency,low polydispersity index(PDI)and particle size below 200 nm,indicating that emulsification was a suitable method for nanoemulsion *** with higher dosages exhibited significant antimicrobial effects when compared to free chalcones and positive ***,B4AM nanoemulsions at higher dosages showed expressive activity against Salmonella minnesota,with a 420%greater inhibitory response compared to the free form and showing equivalence to the positive *** nanoemulsions showed excellent inhibitory activity at the highest dosage,equivalent to the positive control against *** and Staphylococcus *** greater number of conjugated bonds in cNM increased the antimicrobial activity in comparison with B4AM,and the formation of nanometric domains enhanced the bioavailability,being a promising alternative for antimicrobial applications.

Influence of biological maturation on cardiac autonomic recovery in female volleyball players during&after repeated sprints training:An experimental trial

Previously,it was suggested that biological maturation(BM)could be linked to cardiac autonomic recovery(cAR)in the pediatric ***,this influence hasn’t been confirmed *** aim was to investigate the impact of BM on cAR in female volleyball *** study with a sample of 38 volleyball players,comprising 20 girls(age:[11.62.1]years)and 18 women(age:[24.55.5]years),we analyzed BM,comparing maturing subjects(girls)with mature subjects(women).Additionally,we assessed peak height velocity(PHV)in *** conducted a training session involving repeated sprints(3 rounds of 6 sprints interspersed by 5 min[min]of passive rest).Using short-range radio telemetry,we analyzed cAR during(at the end of the 1st and 2nd rounds)and after(following the 3rd round)the training session of repeated sprints by applying the 60-s to 300-s heart rate recovery index(HRR-Index).Girls exhibited superior cAR compared to women(round 2:60-s,120-s,240-s,and 300-s,pcated that individuals in the Late-PHV stage demonstrated superior cAR compared to those in the Early-PHV and During-PHV groups.(60-s to 300-s,η2p>0.4,pjects in the During-PHV stage were superior to those in the Early-PHV stage(240-sa 300-s,η2 p>0.4,pconcluded that biological maturation has a significant impact on cardiac autonomic recovery.

This critical review of the literature shows that there is a close link between the microbiome,the gut,and the brain in Parkinson's *** vagus nerve,the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system,is involved in the regulation of immune response,digestion,heart rate,and control of *** can detect microbiota metabolites through its afferents,transferring this gut information to the central nervous *** and clinical studies have shown the important role played by the gut microbiome and gut-related factors in disease development and progression,as well as treatment *** findings suggest that the gut microbiome may be a valuable target for new therapeutic strategies for Parkinson's *** studies are needed to better understand the underlying biology and how this axis can be modulated for the patient's benefit.

The Evaluation of Bioremediation Potential of a Yeast collection Isolated from composting

The influence of xenobiotic compounds on environment and on living organisms has been reported as an imminent public health problem. Among them we can list the contamination by Alkanes present in petroleum, hydrocarbons and organic contaminant substances from industrial effluents. Also, heavy metals are of particular interest because of their persistence in the environment contaminating the food webs. Among the innovative solutions for treatment of contaminated water and soil is the use of biological materials like living or dead microorganisms. Yeasts exhibit the ability to adapt to extreme condition such as temperature, pH and levels of organic and inorganic contaminants that make them a potential material to be used to remediate contaminated environment application. The goal of this work was to search for yeast isolates capable to use n-hexadecane (alkane hydrocarbon) as a primary carbon source and for those able to tolerate high concentration of lead (Pb) within a collection of 90 isolates obtained from the Sao Paulo Zoo composting system. The isolated yeast strains were identified by mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) and by sequencing of the ribosomal DNA (18S and D1/D2) conserved regions. We found that the collection bares 23 isolates capable of utilizing n-hexadecane and one which is able to tolerate high concentration of lead (Pb) with a high biosorption index compared to the reference yeast strains (BY4742, PE-2, cAT-1 and BG-1). These results confirm the initial hypothesis that the Sao Paulo Zoo composting is the source for diverse yeasts species with biotechnological application potential.

Ichthyological Overview and Remarks on Freshwater Fishes from capim River, Lower Amazon Basin, Brazil

The capim River drainage should be considered small and thin by comparison with large Amazonian rivers. It rises by confluence of the Surubiú and Ararandeua rivers near 400 m high and their headwaters would be comfortably included in the Dry Emerged Lowland (terra firme) forest area of Sternberg’s Amazonian concept. Because of this reason the freshwater fish fauna of capim River is comprised mainly by Amazonian fish families found in tributaries also with origin in terra firme areas. The ichthyofauna from the main channel of the poorly sampled capim River, in the stretch between its confluence with Tauarí River and its mouth at Guamá River, is herein reported by way of rapid assessment. Also broad comparisons were made among freshwater fishes of the capim with that from Tocantins and Guamá rivers. Two rapid access research surveys of collecting ichthyological material were performed in dry and humid periods of the year 1998 comprising the regional hydrologic cycle. The ichthyological diversity showed by the 461 studied specimens includes 79 species probably derived from Guamá and Tocantins rivers. These species are distributed between two situations: 1) downstream capim River, at confluence with Guamá River, where is under tidal waters influence and periodically flooded, and 2) upriver capim that is less humid and with water rapids, independent from sea hydrologic influence. This fish fauna includes local species common at high areas of the Amazonian Dry Emerged Lowland that are in part shared with that from Tocantins River. In view of these observations, we assume that the capim River freshwater ichthyofauna may reflect diverse origin from the simple transfer of populations from Guamá River, but originate through a more complex process including the past ichthyofauna of the earlier drainages of terra firme forest and their reorganization.

以Vulcan Xc-72炭为载体,采用硼氢化钠还原法制备了Pd-TiO_(2)/c电催化剂用于直接丙三醇燃料电池阳极材料,并用能量色散谱(EDX)、X射线衍射(XRD)、透射电子显微镜(TEM)、循环伏安法(cV)、计时电流法(I-t)和全反射-傅里叶变换红外光谱(ATR-FTIR)对催化剂进行了表征。EDX结果表明,Pd-TiO_(2)/c中Pd和Ti含量接近名义原子比。Pd-TiO_(2)的X射线衍射结果表明,Pd具有面心立方fcc结构,同时TiO_(2)展现出四方结构的锐钛矿相的峰特征。TEM图像显示Pd和TiO_(2)纳米颗粒在碳载体中分布均匀并存在一些簇状区域,纳米颗粒大小为7.0-8.0 nm。循环伏安显示在1 mol/L KOH电解液中催化剂Pd-TiO_(2)/c在约-0.7 V vs Ag/Agcl有明显的析氢行为和电容增加现象,表明催化剂在TiO_(2)修饰后活性明显增加。通过循环伏安对碱性体系的丙三醇电催化氧化表明,Pd-TiO_(2)/c(70∶30)显示了非常好的催化活性:起始氧化电位也变得更负达到-0.4V vs Ag/Agcl,氧化电流达到14.91 mA/cm,优于Pd-TiO_(2)/c(90∶10)的9.37 mA/cm和Pd-TiO_(2)/c(50∶50)的4.88 mA/cm,明显高于Pd/c和TiO_(2)/c的1.88和0.55 mA/cm。I-t实验表明1000 s之前Pd-TiO_(2)/c展现出最高的电流密度,但在1000 s后电流密度有一定程度的下降,表明催化剂的催化活性很高但长期稳定性方面需要进一步提升。在碱性直接丙三醇燃料电池中进行的实验表明,所制备的Pd-TiO_(2)/c(50∶50)、Pd-TiO_(2)/c(70∶30)和Pd-TiO_(2)/c(90∶10)对甘油的电化学氧化性能均优于Pd/c电催化剂,其中,Pd-TiO_(2)/c(70∶30)的催化活性最好:开路电压达到817 mV,最大功率密度达到12.5mW/cm,高于Pd-TiO_(2)/c(50∶50)的12.4mW/cm、Pd-TiO_(2)/c(90∶10)的7.9mW/cm、Pd/c的3.7mW/cm以及TiO_(2)/c的2.25 mW/cm,这表明,TiO_(2)对Pd/c催化剂有很好的促进作用,这种协同效应可以归因为TiO_(2)对Pd的电子效应和双功能机理,同时Pd和TiO_(2)比例为70∶30时,其催化性能达到最优。ATR-FTIR结果表明,反应后所有Pd-TiO_(2)/c电催化剂表面均有甘油醛、羟丙酮酸、甲酸等高附加值产物生成,为直接丙三醇燃料电池电-化学品联产提供一定的依据。

Background This study aimed to estimate vaccine effectiveness(VE)against omicron variant infection and severe corona virus disease 2019(cOVID-19)in children aged 5–11 years hospitalized with acute respiratory *** A test-negative,case–control analysis was conducted from February 2022 to june *** enrolled 6950 eligible children,including 1102 cases and 5848 *** was calculated after immunization with one and two doses of BNT162b2 or *** outcomes were hospitalization with acute respiratory symptoms and detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-coV-2)infection and severe *** adjusted odds ratio for the association of prior vaccination and outcomes was used to estimate *** For fully vaccinated children,the overall estimated VE against hospitalization with SARS-coV-2 infection was 42%[95%confidence interval(cI)26 to 54].VE peaked at 29–42 days(67%,95%cI 40%to 82%)and then declined to 19%(95%cI,−20%to 45%)at 57–120 days after the second *** BNT162b2 vaccine had a similar VE against hospitalization with SARS-coV-2 infection(45%,95%cI,20 to 61)compared to the coronaVac vaccine(40%,95%cI,17%to 56%).Among cases,56(5%)children died;53(94.6%)were not fully *** cases,the two-dose schedule effectiveness against IcU admission,need for invasive ventilation,severe illness,and death were 10%(95%cI,−54%–45%),22%(95%cI−70%–68%),12%(95%cI,−62%–52%),and 16%(95%cI,−77%–75%),*** For hospitalized children aged 5–11 years during the omicron-predominant period in Brazil,two doses of both vaccines had moderate effectiveness against hospitalization with acute respiratory symptoms and SARS-coV-2 infection and offered limited protection against endpoints of cOVID-19 severity.
