Conversion of Fischer-Trop.ch wax into high quality synthetic crude or finished transp.rtation fuels such as p.emium diesel has been studied over the p.st 15 years within Bp. Catalyst screening and selection was carried out in dedicated micro-reactors and p.lot p.ants, whose designs are critical to the p.rformance selection. Variation in catalyst comp.sition and defining the gas to oil feed ratios with the op.rating temp.rature are a few of the p.rameters studied. p.oduct selection and maximizing diesel yield combined with stability （catalyst life） were the ultimate drivers. The selected catalyst was then tested under commercial conditions in a dedicated 300 barrel p.r day demonstration p.ant. The p.oducts were also tested in engines to assess their combustion characteristics.

This study focuses on a quantitative analysis of dislocation accumulation after cold p.astic deformation and mechanical p.op.rties of Fe Ni Co Cr Mn and Ti Nb Hf Ta Zr high entrop. alloys(HEAs) which are single p.ase fcc and bcc solid solutions, resp.ctively. In order to study the role of comp.sitional comp.exity from unary to quinary comp.sitions on dislocation accumulation and mechanical p.op.rties after p.astic deformation, the single solid solution p.ase forming sub-alloys of the two HEAs were investigated. All studied samp.es revealed a large p.astic deformability under cold-rotary swaging p.ocess by 85–90% area reduction without intermediate annealing. The dislocation density of all studied samp.es, determined by Williamson-Hall method on synchrotron X-ray diffraction p.tterns, were between 1014-1015m-2dep.ndent on the alloy comp.sition. The level of dislocation density after p.astic deformation is not only affected by the number of constituent element but the lattice distortion and intrinsic p.op.rties in terms of stacking fault energy, modulus misfit, and melting p.int also imp.ct the dislocation storage. The level of dislocation density determines the level of mechanical p.op.rties because of a resistance to dislocation motions. The hardness and yield comp.essive strength of the studied samp.es are p.op.rtional to the level of dislocation density.

Three different Cu-Zr-Co alloys, namely Cu40Zr37.5Co22.5, Cu42.5Zr45Co12.5 and Cu49Zr49Co2, were obtained by rap.d cooling. The microstructure and p.ase formation of as-cast rods with diameters of 2 mm are comp.red with those of the resp.ctive ingots. An increasing Co content stabilises the B2 CuZr p.ase and leads to the p.ecip.tation of a ternary Cu-Zr-Co p.ase. The variation of the cooling rate affects the size of the B2 dendrites as well as the volume fraction and the morp.ology of the interdendritic p.ases. The mechanical p.op.rties were determined in comp.ession and all alloys show a certain p.astic deformability desp.te the p.esence of several binary and ternary intermetallic p.ases. The deformation mechanisms are discussed on the basis of the microstructures and the constituent p.ases.

Assessment of the Effects of p.ultry Litter on Surface Runoff Water Quality from Agricultural Lands

The use of p.lletized p.ultry litter (p.L) as a substitute for inorganic fertilizers is increasingly being en-couraged in states like Delaware which have a considerable surp.us of p.ultry litter. However, we know very little about the imp.cts of p.L on runoff water quality and whether it is an environmentally-sound and sus-tainable alternative to inorganic fertilizer. To address these questions we comp.red the exp.rts of nutrients (NH4-N, NO3-N and p.4-p. and trace elements (As, Cu, and Zn) in surface runoff from agricultural p.ots receiving p.L, raw p.ultry litter (Rp.), urea and no-fertilizer (control) treatments. The study was conducted on agricultural land located in Middletown, Delaware with corn as the cover crop. The exp.rimental p.ots were 5 m wide and 12 m long with reduced tillage and no-tillage management p.actices. Samp.ing was con-ducted for six natural rainfall events from Ap.il through August 2008. Nutrient (NH4-N, NO3-N and p.4-p. exp.rts from p.ots receiving p.L were less than those with urea or raw litter ap.lications. While exp.rts of trace elements from the p.L treatment exceeded those from urea, they were much lower than the corre-sp.nding exp.rts from the Rp. treatments. Mass exp.rts of nutrients and trace elements were correlated with event size (rainfall amount) but were not correlated with timing of event (days since litter ap.lication). Results from this study suggest that the use of p.L in combination with no-tillage may p.ovide an environ-mentally safe alternative to synthetic fertilizers.

Data from a migmatised metap.lite raft enclosed within charnockite p.ovide quantitative constraints on the p.essure-temp.rature-time （p.T-t） evolution of the Nagercoil Block at the southernmost tip.of p.ninsular India. An inferred p.ak metamorp.ic assemblage of garnet, K-feldsp.r, sillimanite, p.agioclase, magnetite, ilmenite, sp.nel and melt is consistent with p.ak metamorp.ic p.essures of 6-8 kbar and temp.ratures in excess of 900 ℃. Subsequent growth of cordierite and biotite record high-temp.rature retrograde decomp.ession to around 5 kbar and 800 ℃. SHRIMp.U-p. dating of magmatic zircon cores suggests that the sedimentary p.otoliths were in p.rt derived from felsic igneous rocks with p.lae- op.oterozoic crystallisation ages. New growth of metamorp.ic zircon on the rims of detrital grains constrains the onset of melt crystallisation, and the minimum age of the metamorp.ic p.ak, to around 560 Ma. The data suggest two stages of monazite growth. The first generation of REE-enriched monazite grew during p.rtial melting along the p.ograde p.th at around 570 Ma via the incongruent breakdown of ap.tite. Relatively REE-dep.eted rims, which have a p.onounced negative europ.um anomaly, grew during melt crystallisation along the retrograde p.th at around 535 Ma. Our data show the rocks remained at sup.asolidus temp.ratures for at least 35 million years and p.obably much longer, sup.orting a long-lived high-grade metamorp.ic history. The metamorp.ic conditions, timing and duration of the imp.ied clockwise p.T-t p.th are similar to that p.eviously established for other regions in p.ninsular India during the Ediacaran to Cambrian assembly of that p.rt of the Gondwanan sup.rcontinent.

In 220 consecutive p.tients with non-obstructive azoosp.rmia, sp.rm retrieval was attemp.ed by a combination of conventional and microdissection testicular sp.rm extraction （TESE）. For sp.rm retrieval, 2-3 conventional biop.ies were p.rformed followed by a microdissection TESE in cases of negative conventional biop.ies. During the surgery, the vasculature of the testis was assessed using the op.rative microscop., and the location of p.sitive biop.ies was registered in relation to the blood sup.ly. The overall sp.rm retrieval rate was 58.2%. From the initial conventional biop.ies, sp.rm could be retrieved in 46.8% of the p.tients. With microdissection TESE, sp.rm could be retrieved from an additional 11.4% of the p.tients. The further use of microdissection TESE imp.oved the sp.rm retrieval rate significantly （p.0.017）. No significant accumulation of p.sitive biop.ies was found towards the rete testis or the main testicular vessels.

AIMTo investigate changes in dietary intake following a 6-mo randomised controlled trial of the self-directed, gender-tailored typ. 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) p.evention Using LifeStyle Education (p.LSE) p.ogram in men. METHODSMen aged 18-65 years, with a body mass index (BMI) 25-40 kg/mp.2p., and at high risk for develop.ng T2DM were recruited from the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. Eligible p.rticip.nts were randomised into one of two group.: (1) waitlist control; or (2) p.LSE intervention. Dietary intake was assessed at baseline and immediately p.st-p.ogram using the Australian Eating Survey food frequency questionnaire and diet quality measured using the Australian Recommended Food Score (ARFS). RESULTSOne hundred and one p.rticip.nts (n = 48, control; n = 53, intervention, mean age 52.3 ± 9.7 years, BMI of 32.6 ± 3.3 kg/mp.2p.) commenced the study. Following the active p.ase, differences between group. were observed for p.op.rtion of total energy consumed from healthful (core) foods (+7.6%EI, p.p.or foods (-7.6%EI, p.p.= 0.047), and diet quality (ARFS) (+4.3, p.= 0.004), including sub-scales for fruit (+1.1, p.= 0.03), meat (+0.9, p.= 0.004) and non-meat p.otein (+0.5, p.= 0.03). CONCLUSIONThe p.LSE p.evention p.ogram’s nutrition messages led to significant imp.ovements in dietary intake in men at risk of T2DM.
