Preliminary study on antifertility activity of Enicostemma axillare leaves and Urena lobata root used in Indian traditional folk medicine

Objective:To evaluate the possible antifertility activity of Enicostemma axillare(***) leaves and Urena lobata(***) root in adult male Wistar albino ***:Six groups of rats were treated with ethanolic(70%v/v) extracts of ***(375 and 750 mg/kg body weight) and *** root(300 and 600 mg/kg body weight) once daily for 55 *** groups received the distilled water and *** the treated rats had corresponding recovery *** the end of each treatment periods,animals were killed and organ weights,sperm characteristics,testicular and epididymal biochemicals as well as testicular enzymes were ***:The E. axillare and *** at tested doses did not decrease body weight,whereas the weight of testes, epididymides and seminal vesicles were significantly(P<0.01) ***(P<0.01) more reductions in the sperm motility,viability and counts,epididymal and testicular protein contents were noted in the rats treated with higher dose of both the *** the plants at the higher dose caused a marked increase(P<0.01) in sperm morphological abnormalities,testicular cholesterol and ascorbic acid contents were remarkably increased(P<0.01),while,the activities of testicular glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase(G-6-PDH) andΔ~5-3β-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase(Δ~5-3β-HSD) were significantly reduced(P<0.01).However,reversal of these changes occurred after 55 days of treatment ***:This study suggests that the ? axillare leaves and *** root reversibly inhibited spermatogenesis and steroidogenesis indicating reversible antifertility activity which could partially support the traditional of these plants as male contraceptives.

The influence of spark plasma sintering temperatures on the microstructure,hardness,and elastic modulus of the nanocrystalline Al-xV alloys produced by high-energy ball milling

Al-xV alloys(x=2 at.%,5 at.%,10 at.%)with nanocrystalline structure and high solid solubility of V were produced in powder form by high-energy ball milling(HEBM).The alloy powders were consolidated by spark plasma sintering(SPS)employing a wide range of temperatures ranging from 200 to 400°*** microstructure and solid solubility of V in Al were investigated using X-ray diffraction analysis,scanning electron microscope and transmission electron *** microstructure was influenced by the SPS temperature and V content of the *** alloys exhibited high solid solubility of V–six orders of magnitude higher than that in equilibrium state and grain size<50 nm at all the SPS *** formation of Al3V intermetallic was detected at 400℃.Formation of a V-lean phase and bimodal grain size was observed during SPS,which increased with the increase in SPS *** hardness and elastic modulus,measured using nanoindentation,were significantly higher than commercial *** example,Al-V alloy produced by SPS at 200℃ exhibited a hardness of 5.21 GPa along with elastic modulus of 96.21 *** evolution of the microstructure and hardness with SPS temperatures has been discussed.

Gallbladder perforation:A single-center experience in north India and a step-up approach for management

Background: Spontaneous gallbladder perforation(GBP) is an uncommon diagnosis. This study presented the experience of managing spontaneous GBP over nine years at a large, tertiary care university hospital in north India and investigated the outcomes and treatment strategies. Methods: A retrospective review of prospectively maintained digital database of consecutive patients was performed. All patients received medical and/or surgical treatment for spontaneous GBP in our department between january 2010 and june 2018. Results: We identifed 151 patients(81 females and 70 males) with mean age of 53 years. Most common presenting features were pain(96.7%), fever(54.3%) and jaundice(31.1%). Most common cause was gallbladder stones(84.8%) followed by common bile duct stones(30.5%), xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis(17.9%) and malignancy(11.9%). As per Niemeier classifcation, 8.6% had type 1 GBP(free perforation in peritoneal cavity), 76.2% had type 2 GBP(localized perforation) and 13.2% had type 3 GBP(cholecystoenteric fstula). About 60% of the perforations were diagnosed preoperatively. Type 1 was more common in patients with diabetes and also had the worst prognosis. Surgery was performed in 109 patients(72.2%). Seven patients(4.6%) had a postoperative morbidity of Clavien-Dindo Ⅲ or higher. There were three mortalities in patients who underwent surgery. Conclusions: High index of suspicion is required for preoperative diagnosis of GBP, especially in types 2 and 3. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be difficult in these patients and patients may require open or partial cholecystectomy. Early diagnosis and step-up approach for the treatment of GBP is critical.

In recent years,nitric oxide(NO)has emerged as a key redox signaling molecule in plants functioning in the regulation of key developmental programs and the orchestration of responses to a plethora of environmental cues(Kolbert et al.,2019).The predominant route for the transfer of NO bioactivity is through S-nitrosylation,the addition of an NO moiety to a protein cysteine thiol to form an S-nitrosothiol(Yun et al.,2011).Specificity for this process is established by the structural constraints imposed by tertiary protein structure in gating access to given cysteine redox switches and associated proteins that can either facilitate the addition or removal of the NO moiety at these residues(Umbreen et al.,2018).

Investigation of point defect evolution and Voronoi cluster analysis for magnesium during nanoindentation

The present study investigates the effect of nanoindentation on single-crystal magnesium specimens using the embedded-atom method potential in molecular dynamics *** are done under dynamic loading where the load-bearing capacity and change in the structural configuration are studied on the basal(Z-direction)and two prismatic planes(X-and Y-directions)with varying indenter *** investigation of structural evolution is done using atomic displacement analyses to measure the net magnitude of displacement,atomic strain analyses to evaluate the shear strain developed in the process,and Wigner-Seitz defect analyses to calculate the total vacancies at varied ***,Voronoi analyses are done when indented on the basal plane to identify the cluster distribution at different planar depths of the *** the analyses,it has been observed that the load-bearing capacity of the specimen varies with the indentation velocity and the direction of indentation on the ***,it is seen that the observed shear and total atomic displacement in the Z-direction is the least in comparison to the other two *** partial dislocation 1/3is seen to be majorly present and the population of dislocation loops is more abundant for lower indenter ***,clustersandare the major indices developed during nanoindentation on the basal plane where they exhibit symmetrical distribution as observed from the Z-direction.

Numerical modelling of pullout of helical soil nail

An investigation into the pullout response of helical soil nail using finite element subroutine Plaxis 2D is *** numerical modelling of actual pullout response is achieved by axisymmetric and horizontal loading *** effect of varying number of helical plates,helical plate spacing and helical plate diameter is studied to understand the pullout capacity *** failure surfaces for various helical soil nail configurations and their pullout mechanisms are also analysed and *** pullout capacity is found to increase with increase in number of helical *** helical plate spacing ratio（s/D;） and diameter ratio（D;/D;） are found to increase the pullout only up to a critical *** response of helical soil nail using axisymmetric finite element simulation is found similar to the uplift behaviour of helical piles and helical soil *** the absence of literature regarding numerical modelling of helical soil nail,simulation results are validated with uplift responses of helical piles and soil anchors.A good agreement in their comparative study for pullout response is also observed.

Population structure analysis and determination of neurotoxin content in a set of grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) accessions of Bangladesh origin

Grass pea(Lathyrus sativus L.) is a crop that is considered one of the more resilient to climate change. With protein-rich seeds and leaves, it has strong potential as human food as well as animal feed and fodder. However, genetic improvement in this crop remains stagnant owing to the poor characterization of its genetic resources. In this study, we characterized 118 accessions of grass pea with 18 EST-SSR markers. A total of 118 accessions, 101 of L. sativus(100 cultivated accessions from Bangladesh and one wild accession) and 17 wild accessions of other Lathyrus species, were used. A total of 67 alleles were detected, with an average of 3.72 alleles per locus and average polymorphism information content of 0.52. A dissimilarity matrix was formed and hierarchical cluster analysis performed using the UPGMA method grouped genotypes into four main clusters. Cluster analysis based on the genetic dissimilarity revealed a clear grouping of the 100 cultivated and 18 wild accessions into four main groups. Group I consisted of 20 accessions with high β-N-oxalyl-L-α,β-diaminopropionic acid(β-ODAP) concentration. Of these 20 accessions, 17 were wild accessions. Only one wild accession(L. cicera) was clustered in group II, which contained 35 accessions. Most of the group II accessions contained low β-ODAP. Group III was represented by 34 accessions, many of them with high β-ODAP. Group IV consisted of 29 accessions, a few of which had very high β-ODAP concentrations. Analysis of molecular variance of the microsatellite data showed significantly higher values of molecular variance between(83%) than within(17%) populations. These characterized accessions will be useful in grass pea breeding programs.
