Fenofibrate-promoted hepatomegaly and liver regeneration are PPARα-dependent and partially related to the YAP pathway

Fenofibrate,a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α(PPARα)agonist,is widely prescribed for hyperlipidemia *** studies also showed that it has therapeutic potential in various liver ***,its effects on hepatomegaly and liver regeneration and the involved mechanisms remain ***,the study showed that fenofibrate significantly promoted liver enlargement and regeneration post-partial hepatectomy in mice,which was dependent on hepatocyteexpressed PPARα.Yes-associated protein(YAP)is pivotal in manipulating liver growth and *** further identified that fenofibrate activated YAP signaling by suppressing its K48-linked ubiquitination,promoting its K63-linked ubiquitination,and enhancing the interaction and transcriptional activity of the YAP-TEAD *** inhibition of YAP-TEAD interaction using verteporfin or suppression of YAP using AAV Yap shRNA in mice significantly attenuated fenofibrate-induced *** factors,such as MYc,KRT23,RAS,and RHOA,might also participate in fenofibrate-promoted hepatomegaly and liver *** studies demonstrate that fenofibratepromoted liver enlargement and regeneration are PPARα-dependent and partially through activating the YAP signaling,with clinical implications of fenofibrate as a novel therapeutic agent for promoting liver regeneration.

Universal insertion of molecules in ionic compounds under pressure

Using first-principles calculations and crystal structure search methods, we found that many covalently bonded molecules such as H2, N2, cO2, NH3, H2O and cH4may react with Nac l, a prototype ionic solid,and form stable compounds under pressure while retaining their molecular structure. These molecules,despite whether they are homonuclear or heteronuclear, polar or non-polar, small or large, do not show strong chemical interactions with surrounding Na and cl ions. In contrast, the most stable molecule among all examples, N2, is found to transform into cyclo-N5-anions while reacting with Nac l under high pressures. It provides a new route to synthesize pentazolates, which are promising green energy materials with high energy density. Our work demonstrates a unique and universal hybridization propensity of covalently bonded molecules and solid compounds under pressure. This surprising miscibility suggests possible mixing regions between the molecular and rock layers in the interiors of large planets.

Evaluation of a Wireless Solar Powered Personal Weather Station

We are evaluating dryland cotton production in Martin county, Texas, measuring cotton lint yield per unit of rainfall. Our goal is to collect rainfall data per 250 - 400 ha. Upon selection of a rainfall gauge, we realized that the cost of using, for example, a tipping bucket-type rain gauge would be too expensive and thus searched for an alternative method. We selected an all-in-one commercially available weather station;hereafter, referred to as a Personal Weather Station (PWS) that is both wireless and solar powered. Our objective was to evaluate average measurements of rainfall obtained with the PWS and to compare these to measurements obtained with an automatic weather station (AWS). For this purpose, we installed four PWS deployed within 20 m of the Plant Stress and Water conservation Meteorological Tower that was used as our AWS, located at USDA-ARS cropping Systems Research Laboratory, Lubbock, TX. In addition, we measured and compared hourly average values of short-wave irradiance (Rg), air temperature (Tair) and relative humidity (RH), and wind speed (WS), and calculated values of dewpoint temperature (Tdew). This comparison was done over a 242-day period (1 October 2022-31 May 2023) and results indicated that there was no statistical difference in measurements of rainfall between the PWS and AWS. Hourly average values of Rg measured with the PWS and AWS agreed on clear days, but PWS measurements were higher on cloudy days. There was no statistical difference between PWS and AWS hourly average measurements of Tair, RH, and calculated Tdew. Hourly average measurements of Rg and WS were more variable. We concluded that the PWS we selected will provide adequate values of rainfall and other weather variables to meet our goal of evaluating dryland cotton lint yield per unit rainfall.

In recent years,graphene field-effect-transistors(GFETs)have demonstrated an outstanding potential for terahertz(THz)photodetection due to their fast response and *** features are essential to enable emerging THz applications,including 6G wireless communications,quantum information,bioimaging and ***,the overall performance of these photodetectors may be utterly compromised by the impact of internal resistances presented in the device,so-called access or parasitic *** this work,we provide a detailed study of the influence of internal device resistances in the photoresponse of high-mobility dual-gate GFET *** dual-gate architectures allow us to fine tune(decrease)the internal resistance of the device by an order of magnitude and consequently demonstrate an improved responsivity and noise-equivalent-power values of the photodetector,*** results can be well understood by a series resistance model,as shown by the excellent agreement found between the experimental data and theoretical *** findings are therefore relevant to understand and improve the overall performance of existing high-mobility graphene photodetectors.

Underground hydrogen storage is critical for renewable energy integration and *** aquifers and depleted oil and gas reservoirs represent viable large-scale hydrogen storage solutions due to their capacity and *** paper provides a comparative analysis of the current status of hydrogen storage in various ***,it assesses the geological compatibility,capacity,and security of these storage environments with minimal leakage and *** in-depth analysis was also conducted on the economic and environmental issues that impact the hydrogen *** addition,the capacity of these structures was also clarified,and it is similar to storing carbon dioxide,except for the cushion gas that is injected with hydrogen to provide pressure when withdrawing from the store to increase *** research also discusses the pros and cons of hydrogen storage in saline aquifers and depleted oil and gas *** include numerous storage sites,compatibility with existing infrastructure,and the possibility to repurpose declining oil and gas ***,it was identified that depleted gas reservoirs are better for hydrogen gas storage than depleted oil reservoirs because hydrogen gas may interact with the *** saline aquifers rank third because of uncertainty,limited capacity,construction and injection *** properties that affect the hydrogen injection process were also discussed in terms of solid,fluid,and solid-fluid *** all structures,successful implementation requires characterizing sites,monitoring and managing risks,and designing efficient storage *** findings expand hydrogen storage technology and enable a renewable energy-based energy system.

Radar Absorbing Materials(RAM)are a class of composites that can attenuate incident electromagnetic waves to avoid radar *** carbon allotropes that have the potential to be used as RAM are either carbon nano-tubes(cNTs),graphene,carbon black(cB)and ultimately,sustainable porous carbon(SPc).Here,black wattle bark waste(following tannin extraction)was used as a sustainable source to produce SPc made from biomass *** was characterized and used as aﬁller for a silicone rubber matrix to produce aﬂexible *** elec-tromagnetic performance of this composite was compared with composites made with commercial cB and cNT through reﬂection loss(RL),where-10 dB is equivalent to 90%of *** composites were evaluated in single-layer,double-layer,and as radar absorbing structures(RAS)with the aim of improving their effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)performances and a reduction in *** cNT composite presented a RL of-26.85 dB at 10.89 GHz and an EAB of 2.6 GHz with a 1.9 mm thickness,while the double-layer structures using cNT and SPc provided a RL of-19.74 dB at 10.75 GHz and an EAB of 2.51 ***,the double-layer structures are~42%cheaper than the composite using only cNT since less material is ***,the largest EAB was achieved with a RAS using SPc,reaching~2.8 GHz and a RL of-49.09 dB at 10.4 ***,SPc made of black wattle bark waste can be a competitive,alternative material for use as RAM and RAS since it is cheaper,sustainable,and suitable for daily life uses such as absorbers for anechoic chambers,sensors,and elec-tromagnetic interference shields for electronics,wallets,vehicles,and others.
