Applying multi-criteria analysis to select the most appropriate broiler rearing environment

The present study aimed to assess the most appropriate rearing system for broiler housing in tropical regions using the Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP).The research was done using data sampling from a field study carried out in eight mechanically-ventilated commercial broiler *** had positive ventilation(open-sided conventional system),and the other four had negative pressure systems,which were named according to the curtains color and light management(blue-house with blue curtains,and dark-house with black side curtains).The data from the field research(rearing dry-bulb temperature and relative humidity;ammonia and carbon dioxide concentrations;energy use;litter type and quality;and broiler performance)were organized,and the multi-criteria analysis AHP was *** the process,the decision-maker must define the problem and chose the criteria to evaluate the alternatives to make a suitable *** alternative selected needs to be according to the stakeholders’*** alternatives consisted of houses using three ventilation systems(conventional,blue-house,and dark-house).The different chosen criteria were the thermal and aerial environment,broiler productivity,energy consumption,and litter *** selected data collected from the field experiment and from current literature to subsidize the selection of the *** computation was done using field data results,knowledge from existing literature,and the expertise of three *** the first time,the AHP technique is applied to select the most suitable broiler housing,considering the complex variables involved in the *** indicated the conventional system as the most appropriate *** of the conventional system showed the highest scores on most criteria in the pairwise *** considered broiler performance,gasses concentration,and electricity cost,providing natural ventilation open-sided conventional house as the most appropriate rearing system

AIM: To explore the role of the adaptor molecule in liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy (PH). METHODS: We used transgenic mice expressing an N-terminal truncated form of MORT1/FADD under the control of the albumin promoter. As previously shown, this transgenic protein abrogated CD95- and CD120a-mediated apoptosis in the liver. Cyclin A expression was detected using Western blotting. ELISA and RT-PCR were used to detect IL-6 and IL-6 mRNA, respectively. DNA synthesis in liver tissue was measured by BrdU staining. RESULTS: Resection of 70% of the liver was followed by a reduced early regenerative response in the transgenic group at 36 h. Accordingly, 36 h after hepatectomy, cyclin A expression was only detectable in wild-type animals. Consequently, the onset of liver mass restoration was retarded as measured by MRI volumetry and mortality was significantly higher in the transgenic group. CONCLUSION: Our data demonstrate for the first time an involvement of the death receptor molecule MORT1/ FADD in liver regeneration, beyond its well described role as part of the intracellular death signaling pathway.

A novel electro-optic deflector based on a quadratic electro-optical potassium lithium tantalate niobate(KLTN)crystal operating slightly above the ferroelectric phase transition is *** new deflection scheme was based on the electric field gradient generation along the vertical axis caused by the trapezoidal geometry of the crystal.A deflection angle of 6.5 mrad was attained for a low voltage of 680 *** deflector was used as an electro-optic modulator for implementing active Q-switching in a thulium-doped yttrium lithium fluoride(Tm:YLF)laser(1880 nm).The laser was operated at three different repetition rates of 0.4,0.5 and 0.7 kHz,and reached high energies per pulse up to 6.9 mj.

Genetic Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci for Contents of Mineral Nutrients in Rice Grain

In present study, Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, Ca, Mg, P and K contents of 85 introgression lines （ILs） derived from a cross between an elite indica cultivar Teqing and the wild rice （Oryza rufipogon） were measured by inductively coupled argon plasma （ICAP） spectrometry. Substantial variation was observed for all traits and most of the mineral elements were significantly positive correlated or independent except for Fe with Cu. A total of 31 putative quantitative trait loci （QTLs） were detected for these eight mineral elements by single point analysis. Wild rice （O. rufipogon） contributed favorable alleles for most of the QTLs （26 QTLs）, and chromosomes 1,9 and 12 exhibited 14 QTLs （45%） for these traits. One major effect of QTL for zinc content accounted for the largest proportion of phenotypic variation （11%-19%） was detected near the simple sequence repeats marker RM152 on chromosome 8. The co-locations of QTLs for some mineral elements observed in this mapping population suggested the relationship was at a molecular level among these traits and could be helpful for simultaneous improvement of these traits in rice grain by marker assisted selection.

Nitrogen use in double cropping soybean with non-fertilized winter oilseed crops

Sustainable intensification of cropping systems is a strategy to increase productivity and reduce disservices of conventional ***[Camelina sativa(L.)Crantz]and field pennycress(Thlaspi arvense L.)are winter annual oilseed crops well suited to fill the fallow period between corn(Zea mays L.)and soybean[Glycine max(L.)Merr.]in the *** Corn Belt,but their inclusion may be limited by resource use limitations.A 2-year study was conducted from 2015 to 2017 in the *** Midwest to evaluate the effect of double cropping on winter oilseed crops and soybean productivity and economic *** included relay-and sequential-cropped soybean with winter camelina and field pennycress,and monocrop soybean as *** and grain yield of winter oilseed crops were not affected by cropping *** over years and cropping systems,winter camelina resulted in more biomass,nitrogen(N)uptake and grain yield by 240,186 and 139% respectively,compared to field *** biomass,N uptake and yield were higher in relay relative to sequential *** soybean resulted in similar total grain yield(soybean+winter oilseed crop)compared to monocropped *** cropping soybean could maintain net return compared to monocropped *** indicate that double cropping winter oilseed crops with soybean can be economically viable in the *** ***,research aimed at optimizing yield through N and water use while improving ecosystem services is needed.

Removal of saxitoxin and anatoxin-a by PAC in the presence and absence of microcystin-LR and/or cyanobacterial cells

Cyanobacteria can produce cyanotoxins such as microcystin-LR(MC),saxitoxin(STX),and anatoxin-a(ANTX-a)which are harmful to humans and other *** removal efficiencies of STX and ANTX-a by powdered activated carbon(PAC)was investigated,aswell as when MC-LR and cyanobacteriawere *** conductedwith distilled water and then source water,using the PAC dosages,rapid mix/flocculation mixing intensities and contact times of two drinking water treatment plants in northeast *** pH 8 and 9,STX removal was 47%-81%in distilled water and 46%-79%in source water,whereas it was 0-28%for pH 6 in distilled water and 31%-52%in source *** 1.6μg/L or 20μg/L MC-LR was present with STX,STX removal was increased with PAC simultaneously removing 45%-65%of the 1.6μg/L MC-LR and 25%-95%of the 20μg/L MC-LR depending on the ***-a removal at pH 6 was 29%-37%for distilled water and 80%for source water,whereas it was 10%-26%for pH 8 in distilled water and 28%for pH 9 in source *** presence of cyanobacteria cells decreased ANTX-a removal by at least 18%.When 20μg/L MC-LR was present with ANTX-a in source water,59%-73%ANTX-a and 48%-77%of MCLR was removed at pH 9 depending on the PAC *** general,a higher PAC dose led to higher cyanotoxin *** study also documented that multiple cyanotoxins can be effectively removed by PAC for water at pH’s between 6 and 9.

Noisy environments:untangling the role of anthropogenic noise on bird species richness in a Neotropical city

Background:Among urban stimuli,anthropogenic noise has been identified to be one of the behavioral drivers of species that rely on acoustic signals for *** have shown both species‑specific and assemblage responses to urban noise,ranging from the modulation of their acoustic frequencies and spatiotemporal adjustments to declines in species *** this study,we assessed the citywide relationship between two anthropogenic noise variables(noise levels recorded during bird surveys and daily average noise levels)and vegetation cover with bird species ***:This study was conducted in the city of Xalapa(Mexico)through a 114 citywide point‑count *** recorded bird communities at each sampling *** measured noise levels using a sound level meter while performing point‑***,we generated a map of average daily noise of the city using an array of 61 autonomous recording units distributed across the city of Xalapa and calculated daily noise levels for the 114 *** ran a linear model(LM)to assess potential relationships between both point‑count and daily(24 h)noise values and vegetation cover with bird ***:Results from the LM show:(1)a negative relationship between maximum point‑count noise and avian species richness,(2)no relationship between 24 h noise and bird species richness,and(3)a positive relationship between vegetation cover and bird species ***:Results provide evidence that decreases in urban bird species richness do not necessarily imply the permanent absence of species,suggesting that birds can temporarily fly away from or avoid sites when noisy,become cryptic while noisy events are occurring,or be undetected due to our inability to record them in the field during noisy events.
