Sedimentation in the Submarine Outfall and in the Mixing Zones （Avoiding, Diagnosis and Remediation）

Some practical design tips and important recommendations are given to minimize the negative effect of discharge of wastewater laden with solid particles via submarine outfall. This study emphasizes the role of respecting the hydraulic conditions in the outfall to prevent sedimentation in the outfall or their accumulation in adjacent areas; also it includes the ways used to improve the outfall hydraulic capacity that decreases with time. The diagnostics and remediation procedures of mixing zones are discussed, especially in the case of previous toxic discharge that results in toxic sediments at the bed load. A literature review of techniques used to assess sediment quality near discharge points and locate effluent-affected sediment deposit is presented that include using acoustic profiles and images, chemical analysis, toxicity tests and multivariate indicators.

BACKGROUND The challenges for inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)diagnostics are to discriminate it from gut conditions with similar symptoms such as irritable bowel syndrome(IBS),to distinguish IBD subtypes,to predict disease progression,and to establish the risk to develop colorectal cancer(CRC).Alterations in gut microbiota have been proposed as a source of information to assist in IBD *** prausnitzii(***),its phylogroups,and Escherichia coli(***)have been reported as potential biomarkers,but their performance in challenging IBD diagnostic situations remains *** hypothesize that bacterial biomarkers based in these species may help to discriminate these conditions of complex *** To evaluate the usefulness of indices calculated from the quantification of these species as biomarkers to aid in IBD *** A retrospective study of 131 subjects(31 controls(H);45 Crohn’s disease(CD),25 ulcerative colitis(UC),10 IBS,and 20 CRC patients)was performed to assess the usefulness of bacterial biomarkers in ***,the performance of biomarkers in faeces was studied in 29 stool samples(19 CD,10 UC).Relative abundances of total ***(FP),its phylogroups(PHGI and PHGII),and ***(E)quantification were determined by *** were combined to calculate the FP-E index,the PHGI–E index and the PHGII-E *** accuracy to discriminate among conditions was measured by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC).RESULTS In biopsies,FP-E index was good for discriminating IBS from CD(AUC=0.752)while PHGII-E index was suitable for discriminating IBS from UC(AUC=0.632).The FP-E index would be the choice to discriminate IBD from CRC,especially from all UC subtypes(AUC≥0.875),regardless of the activity status of the *** between UC patients that had the longest disease duration and those with CRC featured slightly lower AUC *** differentiation in IB

Background: Visceral hypersensitivity has been evidenced in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) but its mechanisms remain poorly elucidated. We investigated the spinal transmission of nociceptive signals in IBS patients by analysing the effects of rectal distensions on electromyographic recordings of the somatic nociceptive flexion (RIII) reflex, an objective index of spinal nociceptive processes. Methods: Fourteen IBS and 10 healthy volunteers were included in the study. Slow ramp (40 ml/min) and rapid phasic (900 ml/min, 10, 20, 30, and 40 mm Hg) rectal distensions were randomly performed while the RIII reflex evoked by electrical stimulation of the sural nerve at the ankle was continuously recorded from the ipsilateral biceps femoris. Results: In healthy volunteers, significant progressive inhibition of the RIII reflex was observed during slow ramp distension (61 (13)%of control values) while biphasic effects (facilitation and inhibition) were observed during rapid distensions. In contrast, in IBS patients, the RIII reflex was significantly facilitated during slow ramp distension (139 (15)%of control values) and inhibitions induced by rapid distensions were significantly reduced. Volumes of distension and rectal compliance were similar in both groups. Conclusions: Our results provide direct evidence that a hyperexcitability of spinal nociceptive processes is present in a large subgroup of IBS patients.

*** strongest locus which associated with type 2 diabetes(T2D)by the common variant rs7903146 is the transcription factor 7-like 2 gene(TCF7L2).We aimed to quantify the interaction of diet/lifestyle interventions and the genetic effect of TCF7L2 rs7903146 on glycemic traits,body weight,or waist circumference in overweight or obese adults in several randomized controlled trials(RCTs).*** October 2016 to May 2018,a large collaborative analysis was performed by pooling individualparticipant data from 7 *** RCTs reported changes in glycemic control and adiposity of the variant rs7903146 after dietary/lifestyle-related interventions in overweight or obese *** treatment interaction models which used the genetic effect encoded by the allele dose and common covariates were applicable to individual participant data in all *** the joint analysis,a total of 7 eligible RCTs were included(n=4,114).Importantly,we observed a significant effect modification of diet/lifestyle-related interventions on the TCF7L2 variant rs7903146 and changes in fasting *** with the control group,diet/lifestyle interventions were related to lower fasting glucose by-3.06(95%CI,-5.77 to-0.36)mg/dL(test for heterogeneity and overall effect:I^(2)=45:1%,p<0:05;z=2:20,p=0:028)per one copy of the TCF7L2 T risk ***,regardless of genetic risk,diet/lifestyle interventions were associated with lower waist ***,there was no significant change for diet/lifestyle interventions in other glycemic control and adiposity traits per one copy of TCF7L2 risk *** findings suggest that carrying the TCF7L2 T risk allele may have a modestly greater benefit for specific diet/lifestyle interventions to improve the control of fasting glucose in overweight or obese adults.
