Possibility of Predicting Category-5 North Atlantic Hurricanes

Category-5 hurricanes are the most devastating from the standpoint of human and economic losses. The occurrence of this kind of hurricane is believed to be of quasi-random nature, so it is very difficult to predict them well in advance. Warnings at this regard are generally given in the course of their development. We propose here, that there are some inherently periodicities of the phenomena that allow to predict category-5 hurricanes, even with some years of anticipation. For our study, we consider the North Atlantic category-5 hurricanes since 1920. We consider in this study data of the SST （sea surface temperature） of the North Atlantic Ocean as a representative parameter of hurricane activity. Then, by means of the wavelet analysis, we determine the dominant oscillation periods and establish correspondence rules using fuzzy logic. The wavelet power spectrum yields the following dominant periodicities： 0.5, 1, 3, 11, 22 and 32 years. The fuzzy logic searches for associations between the hurricanes occurrence and the behavior of the harmonics. Such correspondence rules lead us to restrict dates of possible hurricane occurrence. Interpolation of the periodic behavior allows for a good reconstruction of past hurricanes dates since 1920, as well as extrapolation to predict dates of occurrence in the future. We conclude that the conditions for the formation of the next category-5 hurricane in the North Atlantic may occur during the seasons of 2015-2017 with the highest probability in 2017.

Advances in integrated photonics open up exciting opportunities for batch-fabricated optical sensors using high-quality-factor nanophotonic cavities to achieve ultrahigh sensitivities and *** sensitivity improves with increasing optical power;however,localized absorption and heating within a micrometer-scale mode volume prominently distorts the cavity resonances and strongly couples the sensor response to thermal dynamics,limiting the sensitivity and hindering the measurement of broadband time-dependent ***,we derive a frequency-dependent photonic sensor transfer function that accounts for thermo-optical dynamics and quantitatively describes the measured broadband optomechanical signal from an integrated photonic atomic force microscopy nanomechanical *** this transfer function,the probe can be operated in the high optical power,strongly thermo-optically nonlinear regime,accurately measuring low-and intermediate-frequency components of a dynamic signal while reaching a sensitivity of 0.7fm/Hz^(1/2) at high frequencies,an improvement of=10x relative to the best performance in the linear ***,we discover that a higher transduction gain and sensitivity are achieved with lower quality-factor optical modes for low signal *** limited to optomechanical transducers,the derived transfer function is generally valid for describing the small-signal dynamic responses of a broad range of technologically important photonic sensors subject to the thermo-optical effect.

The steels with chromium contents between 9%and 12%wt are used for power plants with advanced steam oxidation *** present good creep properties as 9%Cr steels and good oxidation resistance,at the temperatures range between 500℃～600℃.In the last years numerous investigation in development of coatings has been realized with the aim the protected them against the oxidation in order to allow operation of steam turbines at 650℃.In this study,Al-Hf protective coatings were deposited by CVD-FBR on ferritic steel HCM-12A followed by a diffusion heat treatment,have shown to be protective at 650℃under steam for at least 3000 hours of laboratory steam exposure under atmospheric *** and composition of coatings were characterized by different techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy(SEM),electron probe microanalysis,and X-ray diffraction(XRD). On the other hand,volatile species by mass spectrometry(MS) and thermogravimetric measurements (TG) during the initial stages oxidation of the P92 ferritic steel without and of Al and Al/Si coating by chemical vapour deposition in fluidized bed reactors(CVD-FBR) at 650℃in Ar+20%H_2O for 150 h were *** order to go forward to coatings design the Thermocalc code is used as base for the MSdata. We present the entanglement measures of a tetrapartite W-class entangled system in a noninertial frame, where the transformation between Minkowski and Rindler coordinates is *** cases are ***, when one qubit has uniform acceleration whilst the other three remain ***, when two qubits have nonuniform accelerations and the others stay *** 1–1 tangle, 1–3 tangle, and whole entanglement measurements π4 and Π4, are studied and illustrated with graphics through their dependence on the acceleration parameter rd for the first case and rc and rd for the second *** is found that the negativities(1–1 tangle and 1–3 tangle) and π-tangle decrease when the acceleration parameter rd or in the second case rc and rd increase, remaining a nonzero entanglement in the majority of the *** means that the system will be always entangled except for special *** is shown that only the 1–1 tangle for the first case vanishes at infinite accelerations, but for the second case the 1–1 tangle disappears completely when r > *** analytical expression for the von Neumann information entropy of the system is found and we note that it increases with the acceleration parameter.

The present contributions deal with the development and implementation of the direct and adjoint incompressible Navie-Stokes equations in a matrix-free time-stepping context making use of the open-source OpenFOAM~ （open source field operation and manipulation） C ＋＋ tool- box. It is shown that a few minor modifications in the source code can enable these multi-purpose computational fluid dynamics （CFD） solvers to carry out global instability analysis of three- dimensional flows of engineering interest, exploiting all additional capabilities of such codes. The strength of this methodology is demonstrated through the analysis of an interesting selection of ooen and wall-bounded flows.

This study estimates job creation from Costa Rica's transition to net-zero emissions by 2050,contrasting it with a business-as-usual scenario(BAU)using employment multipliers from Costa Rica's input-output *** model is soft-linked with a bottom-up technology-rich regional model of the CLEW sectors in Costa Rica.A robust decision-making-inspired approach is taken to assess the effects of uncertainty on the *** study addresses a literature gap in modeling subnational employment while accounting for long-term uncertainty and allows to identify economic activities affected by the transformation,so that policies regarding a just transition can be properly developed and stakeholders incentivized to take active participation in the *** baseline assumptions,a net-zero economy would have 135 thousand more jobs by 2050 than the BAU,equivalent to 7%of the employed population in ***-related jobs would triple by mid-21st century,and regions capitalizing on renewables would perceive the highest *** considering uncertainty,the net jobs range between 35-750 *** net positive outcomes in terms of jobs are feasible,global governance should focus efforts on policies that enhance these.

Thiol-based redox post-translational modifications have emerged as important mechanisms of signaling and regulation in all organisms, and thioredoxin plays a key role by controlling the thiol-disulfide status of target proteins. Recent redox proteomic studies revealed hundreds of proteins regulated by glutathio- nylation and nitrosylation in the unicellular green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, while much less is known about the thioredoxin interactome in this organism. By combining qualitative and quantitative proteomic analyses, we have comprehensively investigated the Chlamydomonas thioredoxome and 1188 targets have been identified. They participate in a wide range of metabolic pathways and cellular pro- cesses. This study broadens not only the redox regulation to new enzymes involved in well-known thiore- doxin-regulated metabolic pathways but also sheds light on cellular processes for which data supporting redox regulation are scarce （aromatic amino acid biosynthesis, nuclear transport, etc）. Moreover, we char- acterized 1052 thioredoxin-dependent regulatory sites and showed that these data constitute a valuable resource for future functional studies in Chlamydomonas. By comparing this thioredoxome with proteomic data for glutathionylation and nitrosylation at the protein and cysteine levels, this work confirms the existence of a complex redox regulation network in Chlamydomonas and provides evidence of a tremendous selectivity of redox post-translational modifications for specific cysteine residues.
