Liquid-liquid extraction and separation of total rare earth(RE) metals from polymetallic manganese nodule leaching solution

the study on the solvent extraction for quantitative and selective separation of total rare earth metals from the polymetallic nodule leach liquor was investigated. the typical leach liquor bearing 0. 094 g/L total rare earth, 0. 23 g/L Mn, 0.697 g/L Cu, 0.2 g/L Fe, 0.01 g/L Co and 0.735 g/L Ni was subjected to the removal iron content by precipitation method using Ca（OH）2 at pH 3.95, prior to solvent extraction of rare earth metals. three different organo-phosphoric acid reagents（D2EHPA, PC88 A, Cyanex 272） were used to ascertain their performances and selectivity towards the loading of rare earth metals in presence of other base metals. Based on the results of eq. pH effect, the performances of above three extractants followed the order as： D2EHPA〉PC88A〉Cyanex 272. to ensure the absence of extraction of base metals（Cu, Co, Ni）, the eq. pH of the solution was optimized at the level of 2.21, though higher rare earth metal extraction efficiency was observed at higher eq. pH with either of the extractants. the complete process flow diagram for substantial recovery of total rare earth was developed using D2 EHPA. Extraction isotherm plot was constructed at A：O=12：1, 3-stages and pHe=2.21, using 0.8 mol/L D2 EHPA and the predicted condition of this study was further confirmed by 6-Cycles Counter Current Simulation（CCS） study. the stripping of total rare earth from loaded organic phase（LO） was conducted using HCl solution. Mc-Cabe thiele diagram study carried out at A：O=1：5 using 4 mol/L HCl showed that three theoretical stages were needed for quantitative stripping of total rare earth. the subsequent stripped solution resulted thus led to contain total rare earth of 5.6 g/L indicating a very high enrichment of total metals by solvent extraction（SX） process.

Understanding pediatric surgical needs in North Korea: a modeling analysis

Background Sixty-five percent of children worldwide lack access to surgical care,the majority of whom live in low-income and middle-income countries(LMiCs).Developing surgical infrastructure requires information on surgical need;however,this information is often limited in *** Korea(Democratic People's Republic of Korea,DPRK)has a low amount of publicly available ***,we analyzed available modeled data to understand the causes of pediatric deaths due to conditions treatable with surgery in *** We used World Bank data and models from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation to identify causes of pediatric deaths affecting pediatric patients(agetality of disease between DPRK and countries with similar economic *** Between 1990 and 2019,the number of overall pediatric deaths has *** 2019,32.2%of allpediatric deaths in DPRK were caused by surgical *** leading categories of surgical conditions were injuries(53.9%),congenital conditions(34.2%),tumors(8.8%),and abdominal conditions(3.2%).DPRK has a lower relative rate of pediatric deaths compared with other LMICs with similar gross domestic product per ***,it has a higher relative rate of pediatric deaths due to conditions requiring treatment with *** injuries contribute significantly to the high rate of pediatric deaths in *** Although DPRK may be allocating overall resources toward pediatric healthcare more efficiently than economic peers,DPRK may benefit from improvement in pediatric surgical *** availability of data and close international collaboration could be potential solutions to bridge this gap.

In situ characterization of particle formation in spray flame synthesis using wide-angle light scattering

Wide-angle light scattering(WALS)was used for in situ measurements of droplet and nanoparticle size distributions during the synthesis of titania and iron oxide particles from liquid precursor solutions in the standardized SpraySyn burner for spray flame *** was synthesized from titanium tetraisopropoxide(ttIP)and iron oxide from iron(II)nitrate nonahydrate(INN)using ethanol(EtOH)as *** images were taken at heights up to 120 mm above the burner surface and classified into droplet and particle *** size distributions were derived from a sequential analysis of scattering data containing the oscillating Mie pattern,the lognormal size distribution parameters for spherical and fractal particle fractions from a multivariate approach on averaged particle scattering *** results show that the precursor addition leads to altered evaporation behavior and even droplet disruption probably induced by puffing or micro-explosions compared to pure *** the case of ttIP(a hygroscopic alkoxide),the synthesis of a large fraction of spheres was observed,while the nitrate INN leads to the formation of mostly fractal aggregates.

Electrochemically Deposited CZtSSe thin Films for Monolithic Perovskite tandem Solar Cells with Efficiencies Over 17%

In spite of the high potential economic feasibility of the tandem solar cells consisting of the halide perovskite and the kesterite Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4(CZtSSe),they have rarely been demonstrated due to the difficulty in implementing solution-processed perovskite top cell on the rough surface of the bottom ***,we firstly demonstrate an efficient monolithic two-terminal perovskite/CZtSSe tandem solar cell by significantly reducing the surface roughness of the electrochemically deposited CZtSSe bottom *** surface roughness(R_(rms))of the CZtSSe thin film could be reduced from 424 to 86 nm by using the potentiostatic mode rather than using the conventional galvanostatic mode,which can be further reduced to 22 nm after the subsequent ion-milling *** perovskite top cell with a bandgap of 1.65 eV could be prepared using a solution process on the flattened CZtSSe bottom cell,resulting in the efficient perovskite/CZtSSe tandem solar *** the current matching between two subcells involving the thickness control of the perovskite layer,the best performing tandem device exhibited a high conversion efficiency of 17.5%without the hysteresis effect.

Environmentally adaptive reshaping of plant photomorphogenesis by karrikin and strigolactone signaling

Coordinated morphogenic adaptation of growing plants is critical for their survival and propagation under fluctuating *** morphogenic responses to light and warm temperatures,termed photomorphogenesis and thermomorphogenesis,respectively,have been extensively studied in recent *** photomorphogenesis,plants actively reshape their growth and developmental patterns to cope with changes in light ***,photomorphogenesis is closely associated with diverse growth hormonal ***,accumulating evidence indicates that light-directed morphogenesis is profoundly affected by two recently identified phytochemicals,karrikins(KARs)and strigolactones(SLs).KARs and SLs are structurally related butenolides acting as signaling molecules during a variety of developmental steps,including seed *** receptors and signaling mediators have been identified,and associated working mechanisms have been explored using gene-deficient mutants in various plant *** particular interest is that the KAR and SL signaling pathways play important roles in environmental responses,among which their linkages with photomorphogenesis are most comprehensively studied during seedling *** this review,we focus on how the phytochemical and light signals converge on the optimization of morphogenic *** also discuss molecular mechanisms underlying the signaling crosstalks with an aim of developing potential ways to improve crop productivity under climate changes.

Mathematical modelling of ball and plate system with experimental and correlation function-based model validation

the ball and plate system is an inherently nonlinear under actuated benchmark system used for validating the performance of various control schemes. A mathematical model depicting the dynamics close to that of the system is very much required for such a test bed. In this correspondence, the complete nonlinear model, a simplified nonlinear model, and a linearized model of the ball and plate system are developed. the system comprises a ball and plate mechanism and a rotary servo unit. the ball and plate mechanism is modelled using the Euler–Lagrange method, whereas the rotary servo subsystem is modelled from the first principles. the nonlinear model of the combined system is developed by including the dynamics of the servo motor with gear and rolling resistance between the ball and the plate. the simplified nonlinear model of the system is obtained with suitable assumptions. the model is linearized around the operating point using the jacobian. the validity of the developed models is investigated through correlation function analysis. the open-loop response of the three models, viz., nonlinear, simplified nonlinear, and linearized models, is analyzed in the MAtLAB/Simulink platform. Since the open-loop system is unstable, the experimental validation of the model is performed with a double-loop PSO (particle swarm optimization) PID control scheme.

Optimum genetic delivery for modulating target genes to diseased tissue is a major obstacle for profitable gene *** nanoparticles(LNPs),considered a prospective vehicle for nucleic acid delivery,have demonstrated efficacy in human use during the COVID-19 *** study introduces a novel biomaterial-based platform,M1-polarized macrophage-derived cellular nanovesicle-coated LNPs(M1-C-LNPs),specifically engineered for a combined gene-immunotherapy approach against solid *** dual-function system of M1-C-LNPs encapsulates Bcl2-targeting siRNA within LNPs and immune-modulating cytokines within M1 macrophage-derived cellular nanovesicles(M1-NVs),effectively facilitating apoptosis in cancer cells without impacting t and NK cells,which activate the intratumoral immune response to promote granule-mediating killing for solid tumor *** retention within tumor was observed upon intratumoral administration of M1-C-LNPs,owing to the presence of adhesion molecules on M1-NVs,thereby contributing to superior tumor growth *** findings represent a promising strategy for the development of targeted and effective nanoparticle-based cancer genetic-immunotherapy,with significant implications for advancing biomaterial use in cancer therapeutics.
