Background:Domestic dogs are the main targets for rabies control as they are the principal reservoir for transmission of the rabies virus to humans and other domestic *** purpose of this study was to identify the factors that contribute to the rabies virus infecting the human population in a rural community of Eastern ***:Using a cross-sectional study design,field visits were conducted to gather information on villagers’knowledge on and practices associated with canine rabies control and dog vaccination ***:A total of 248 individuals were interviewed in the Kilosa district,*** two-thirds(61.3%)had a primary school *** majority(91.1%)of the respondents were aware that rabies is acquired through dog bites and 66.9%knew about the clinical signs of rabies in an *** few(17.7%),however,were aware of the clinical signs of rabies in *** 20.4%of the respondents knew how rabies is controlled in dogs and 71%were not aware of dog vaccination *** average number of dogs kept per household was 4±3.3;70.0%of the respondents had one to five dogs,28.3%had six to dog dogs,and 1.6%had 16–20 *** dogs were primarily used to guard livestock and property,and to *** 59.7%of the respondents indicated that rabies was a public health *** vaccination coverage was observed in the study area,with previous mass vaccination campaigns covering only 24.4%of the dog *** appeared to have limited value in the studied ***,there were no proper waste disposal facilities and oftentimes wild canids and felids visited the villages to scavenge on kitchen ***:Although communities in the Kilosa district had knowledge on rabies in dogs,they were not aware of the public health implication of the disease,which thus led a poor response during mass dog vaccination *** of a well-coordinated rabies control program,strategic public health awareness camp

Conservative numerical methods are often used for simulations of fluid flows involving shocks and other jumps with the understanding that conservation guarantees reasonable treatment near *** is true in that convergent conservative approximations converge to weak solutions and thus have the correct shock ***,correct shock location results from any discretization whose violation of conservation approaches zero as the mesh is *** we investigate the case of the Euler equations for a single gas using the jones-Wilkins-Lee(jWL)equation of *** show that a quasi-conservative method can lead to physically realistic solutions which are devoid of spurious pressure ***,we demonstrate that under certain conditions,a quasi-conservative method can exhibit higher rates of convergence near shocks than a strictly conservative counterpart of the same formal order.

We report the development of a stable high-average power X-ray source generated by the interaction of ultrashort laser pulses(35 fs,1 mj,1 kHz)with a solid target in *** achieved source stability,which is essential for the applications foreseen for these laser-driven plasma accelerators,is due to the combination of precise positioning of the target on focus and the development of a fast rotating target system able to ensure the refreshment of the material at every shot while minimizing positioning errors with respect to the focal *** vacuum-free laser-plasma X-ray source provides an average dose rate of 1.5 Sv/h at 30 cm and a repeatability better than 93%during more than 36 min of continuous operation per target.

This paper is a brief and selective review on hydrothermal synthesis of advanced materials. Some general comments about the hydrothermal synthesis of materials are presented. In particular, the surface modification and hydrothermal synthesis of functional powders (e.g. the hydrothermal coating of aluminum borate whiskers with chromium oxide, hydrothermal synthesis of Ni-Zn ferrite and magnesium hydroxide ) are introduced and their importance are explained.

Value Management (VM) is a rigorous and systematic approach to improve the value and optimise the overall cost of a facility. It identifies opportunities to remove unnecessary costs while assuring that quality, reliability, performance, and other critical factors will meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. It has been widely used in the construction industry in a number of countries. A recent survey, however, revealed several problems that hinder the wider use of this methodology in the industry. To overcome these problems, a feasibility study has been conducted to investigate whether or not a Group Support System (GSS) can support collaborative works in VM workshops. This paper introduces the development and structure of a prototype GSS which is designed to support the collaborative works of stakeholders in VM workshops. It begins with an introduction to the conceptual GSS framework and job plan, illustrating what GSS supports can be provided to VM workshops. This is followed by a detailed description of the GSS prototype system to demonstrate how these supports can be performed as an integrated computer system. The testing of the system is also discussed. The research findings provide strong evidence in supporting the notion of using GSS to improve VM implementation. The information support of GSS has been ranked to be the most useful GSS functions and most of the practitioners interviewed are highly interested in applying GSS to support VM workshops in the future.

Imploding hydraulic jumps in water are created by reservoir-type (RT) and gate-type (GT) water tables. After comparison with the Chestner-Chisnell-Whitham (CCW) approximate solution of imploding hydraulic jumps, the critical range of operation where the dynamics of the imploding water waves are similar to imploding gaseous shock waves is identified. possible details are identified that enable water waves in this critical range to behave analogously to gaseous shock waves.

Aim: To demonstrate the role of the 8 kDa peptide in regulation of testosterone production by mt Leydig cells. Meth-ods: A peptide similar to 8 kDa peptide purified from immature rat Leydig cells was isolated and purified from rat lungcytosol. Immunological and structural similarity between the peptides purified from lung and Leydig cells was estab-lished by Western blot and tryptic map comparison respectively. Results: Addition of the 8 kDa peptide 10, 50, 100;and 150 ug decreased the production of testosterone in Leydig cells dose-dependently. But the addition of the peptide150 ug along with hCG had no effect on hCG-stimulated increase in testosterone production. Conclusion: In vitro ad-dition of the peptide purified from lung cytosol to adult rat Leydig cells resulted in a concentration-dependent decrease inbasal testosterone production although it had no effect on hCG-stimulated testosterone production.
