Some studies have shown that low frequency stimulation(LFS,most commonly 60 Hz),compared to high frequency stimulation(HFS,most commonly 130 Hz),has beneficial effects,short-term or even long-term,on improving freezing of gait(FOg)and other axial symptoms,including speech and swallowing function,in parkinson disease(pD)patients with bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation(STN DBS).However,other studies failed to confirm *** seems not clear what determines the difference in response to *** in study design,such as presence or absence of FOg,exact LFS used(60 Hz versus 80 Hz),study size,open label versus randomized double blind assessment,retrospective versus prospective evaluation,medication On or Off state,total electric energy delivered maintained or not with the change in frequency,and the location of active contacts could all potentially affect the *** mini-review goes over the literature with the aforementioned factors in mind,focusing on the effect of LFS versus HFS on FOg and other axial symptoms in pD with bilateral STN DBS,in an effort to extract the essential data to guide our clinical management of axial symptoms and explore the potential underlying mechanisms as ***,LFS of 60 Hz seems to be consistently effective in patients with FOg at the usual HFS in regards to improving FOg,speech,swallowing function and other axial symptoms,though LFS could reduce tremor control in some *** LFS simply addresses the axial symptoms in the context of HFS or has other beneficial effects requires further studies,along with the mechanism.

AIM: To assess the safety and efficacy of trans-arterial chemo-embolization (TACE) in very elderly patients. METHODS: A prospective cohort study, from 2001 to 2010, compared clinical outcomes following TACE between patients ≥ 75 years old and younger patients (aged between 65 and 75 years and younger than 65 years) with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), diagnosed according to the European Association for the Study of the Liver and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases criteria. The decision that patients were not candidates for curative therapy was made by a multidisciplinary HCC team. Data collected included demographics, co-morbidities, liver disease etiology, liver disease severity and the number of procedures. The primary outcome was mortality; secondary outcomes included post-embolization syndrome (nausea, fever, abdominal right upper quadrant pain, increase in liver enzymes with no evidence of sepsis and with a clinical course limited to 3-4 d post procedure) and 30-d complications. Additionally, changes in liver enzyme measurements were assessed [alanine and aspartate aminotransferase (ALT and AST), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase and alkaline phosphatase] in the week following TACE. Analysis employed both univariate and multivariate methods (Cox regression models). RESULTS: Of 102 patients who underwent TACE as sole treatment, 10 patients (9.8%) were > 80 years old at diagnosis; 13 (12.7%) were between 75 and 80 years, 45 (44.1%) were between 65 and 75 years and 34 (33.3%) were younger than 65 years. Survival analysis demonstrated similar survival patterns between the elderly patients and younger patients. Age was also not associated with the adverse event rate. Survival rates at 1, 2 and 3 years from diagnosis were 74%, 37% and 31% among patients g patients aged 65 to 75 years; and 86%, 41% and 23% among patients ≥ 75 years. A boll infection caused by non-traditional cotton pathogens was first reported to occur in the southeastern U.S. Cotton Belt (year 2000) and has since spread to Texas causing significant yield losses. This study was aimed towards investigating the verde plant bug (Creontiades signatus) link between interior boll disease in Texas, USA. Using glasshouse grown bolls, bacteria recovered from locules with disease symptoms from field-grown cotton bolls caged with the piercing-sucking C. signatus were analyzed for the capacity to inflict the disease. For pathogenicity testing, spontaneously generated rifampicin resistant (Rifr) variants were utilized to track the antibiotic resistant bacterium and deter growth of endophytic and contaminating bacteria. To simulate C. signatus feeding, a needle (31 gauge) was employed to inoculate bolls at 13 - 15 days after flower bloom. Bacterial suspensions ranged from 10p>1p> - 10p>6p> colony forming units/ml. Field infection symptoms were duplicated after two weeks of bacterial exposure. Infectious strains were best categorized as Serratia marcescens based on traditional carbon utilization and enzyme production testing, and a 99% nucleotide sequence identity of 16S ribosomal DNA. putative S. marcescens representatives isolated from rotted bolls exposed to C. signatus were shown to reproduce field infection symptoms upon inoculation into greenhouse grown fruit. Serratia spp. can inflict disease in alfalfa, cucurbits, and sunflower. The presented data are the first to definitively show that a Serratia sp. has the capacity to infect cotton.

To determine which clinical feature(s) [among visual hallucinations (VH), extrapyramidal signs (EpS) and visuospatial impairment] in the earliest stages of disease best predicted a diagnosis of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) at autopsy, firstvisit data of 23 pathologically proven DLB and 94 Alzheimer’s disease cases were compared. There were no group differences with regard to age, gender, education or global severity of dementia at presentation (mean Mini- Mental State Examination: 24.0 versus 25.0, mean Dementia Rating Scale: 123.6 versus 125.7). DLB patients at initial presentation displayed an increased frequency of VH (p = 0.001), but not EpS (p = 0.3), compared to Alzheimer’s disease patients. However, only a minority of DLB cases had either VH (22% ), EpS (26% ) or both (13% ). In contrast, although not a core feature, visuospatial/ constructional impairment was observed in most of the DLB cases (74% ). Among clinical variables, presence/ recent history of VH was the most specific to DLB (99% ), and visuospatial impairment was the most sensitive (74% ). As a result, VH at presentation were the best positive predictor of DLB at autopsy (positive predictive value: 83% versus 32% or less for all other variables), while lack of visuospatial impairment was the best negative predictor (negative predictive value: 90% ). We conclude that the best model for differentiating DLB from Alzheimer’s disease in the earliest stages of disease includes VH and visuospatial/constructional dysfunction, but not spontaneous EpS, as predictors. This suggests that clinical history plus a brief assessment of visuospatial function may be of the greatest value in correctly identifying DLB early during the course of disease.

Utilisation of green Synthesised Silver Nanoparticles for Water Quality Management

In the present study silver nanoparticles (AgNps) were synthesized using leaves of bamboo plant, Bambus vulgaris and the size of the nanoparticles was confirmed using XRD, EDAX, SEM, TEM, pSA analysis. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized Nps showed a good antibacterial activity against the waterborne isolates, E. coli, Staphyllococcus aureus, Vibrio cholera and Salmonella sp. Further the anti algal activity of the Nps was tested against the algae, Dictyosphaerium pulchellum, and Algoriphagus chordate. The SEM studies revealed that the AgNps breaks the cell wall of algae and inhibits the growth. The safe dose of AgNps can be used in aquaculture farms, household water tanks and other small water bodies to wipe out waterborne pathogens and algal bloom.

妊娠期家庭暴力的前瞻性观察研究

Objective: To assess whether women reporting domestic violence are at increased risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes. Methods: A screening questionnaire, previously validated for the identification of female victims of domestic violence, was offered to women presenting to our Labor and Delivery Unit. The survey prompted women to indicate whether her partner or family member physically hurt her, insulted or talked down to her, threatened her with harm, or screamed or cursed at her. The primary study outcome was to detect a 3- fold increase in low birth weight infants ( ≤ 2, 500 g) in women reporting physical abuse, com pa- red with those not reporting domestic violence. Results: A total of 16,041 women were approached to be interviewed. Of these, 949 (6% ) women responded affirmatively to one or more of the survey questions, and another 94 (0.6% )- declined to be interviewed. The incidence of low birth weight infants was significantly increased in women who reported verbal abuse, compared with the no- abuse group (7.6% versus 5.1% , respectively, p = .002). physical abuse was associated with an increased risk of neonatal death (1.5% versus 0.2% , p = .004). Interestingly, women who declined to be interviewed had significantly increased rates of low birth weight infants(12.8% versus 5.1% , p preterm birth at 32 weeks of gestation or less (5.3% versus 1.2% , p= .002), placental abruptions (2.1% versus 0.2% , p p = .008) when compared with women in the no- abuse group, respectively. Conclusion: Women who declined to be surveyed regarding domestic violence were at increased risk for adverse pregnancy outcome.
