Plants are sessile organisms that have acquired highly plastic developmental strategies to adapt to the *** these processes,the floral transition is essential to ensure reproductive success and is finelyregulated by several internal andexternal genetic *** photoperiodic pathway,which controls plant response to day length,is one of the most important pathways controlling *** Arabidopsis photoperiodic flowering,CONSTANS(CO)is the central gene activating the expression of the florigen fLOWERING LOCUS T(fT)in the leaves at the end of a long *** circadian clock strongly regulates Co ***,to date,no evidence has been reported regarding a feedbackloop from the photoperiod pathway back to the circadian *** transcriptional networks,we have identified relevant network motifs regulating the interplay between the circadian clock and the photoperiod *** expression,chromatin immunoprecipitation experiments,and phenotypic analysis allowed us to elucidate the role of Co over the circadian *** with altered cO expression showed a different internal clock period,measured by daily leaf rhythmic *** showed that co upregulates the expression of key genes related to the circadian clock,such as CCA1,LHY,PRR5,and Gl,at the end of a long day by bindingto specific sites on their ***,a high numberof PRR5-repressed target genes are upregulated by CO,and this could explain the phase transition promoted by *** CO-PRR5 complex interacts with the bZiP transcriptionfactor HY5andhelps to localize the complex in the promoters of clock *** together,our results indicate that there may be a feedback loop in which co communicates back to the circadian clock,providing seasonal information to the circadian system.

Characterization of Phases in an As-cast Copper-Manganese-Aluminum Alloy

Copper-manganese-aluminum （CMA） alloys, containing small additions of fe, Ni, and Si, exhibit good strength and remarkable corrosion resistance against sea water. The alloys are used in as-cast condition, and their microstructure can show wide variations. The morphology, crystallography and composition of the phases presented in an as-cast （CMA） alloy of nominal composition Cu-14%Mn-8%Al-3%fe-2%Ni were investigated using optical, electron optical, and microprobe analytical techniques. The as-cast microstructure consisted of the grains of fcc α and bcc β-phases alongwith intermetallic precipitates of various morphologies. The room temperature microstructure exhibited four different types of precipitates inside the α-grains： the ＇large＇ dendritic-shaped particles and the cuboid-shaped precipitates, which were rich in fe and Mn and had an fcc structure, while the ＇small＇ dendritic-shaped particles and the globular precipitates were based on feaAI and had DO3 structure. These four different morphologies of intermetallic precipitates exhibited discrete orientation-relationships with the α-matrix. The β-grains only contained very small cuboid shaped precipitates, which could only be resolved through transmission electron microscopy. These precipitates were found to be based on fe3Al and had the DO3 structure.

The Soft X-ray Imager(SXI)is part of the scientific payload of the Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(SMILE)*** is a joint science mission between the European Space Agency(ESA)and the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)and is due for launch in *** is a compact X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(fOV)capable of encompassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the SMILE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the Solar Wind Charge eXchange(SWCX)process produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s *** provides a mechanism for boundary detection within the magnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed magnetic field *** sensitivity of the SXI is such that it can potentially track movements of the magnetopause on timescales of a few minutes and the orbit of SMILE will enable such movements to be tracked for segments lasting many *** is led by the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom(UK)with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the UK,Europe,China and the United States.

LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS ON NAVIGATION-INDUCED BED SHEAR STRESSESAND SEDIMENT RESUSPENSION

Motivated by the need to assess the environmental impact of navigation in the upper Mississippi River basin. a method was developed for computing *** in unsteady flows similar to the flows induced by navigation traffic. The method accounts for statistical differences between bed shear stress distributions of steady and unsteady flows. Unsteady pulse flow tests performed in a laboratory flume indicate that the stochastic method works well for predicting entrainment, but not significantly better than a similar deterministic method. Temporal and spatial distributions of bed shear stress were also measured beneath a 1:25 scale model of a 3 barge wide by 5 barge long barge tow for a variety of flow and operating conditions. for one set of flow and operating conditions (PDf test) a large number of realizations were gathered so that statistical properties of the bed shear stress below the propeller axis could be observed. As in the laboratory tests, differences between stochastic and deterministic entrainment predictions were small for the PDf barge tow test. Consequently, deterministic calculations of total sediment entrainment are given for the remaining barge tow tests. finally. it was found that although the stochastic model presented herein does not offer a large improvement over existing deterministic models, fluctuations in bed shear stress do play an important role in the suspension of sediment, and the timing of sediment entrainment in unsteady flows is more closely related to shear stress fluctuations than it is to the ensemble averaged shear stress.

This paper presents new results for strong solutions and their coincidence sets of the obstacle problem for linear hyperbolic operators of first order. An inequality similar to the LewyStampacchia ones for elliptic and parabolic problems is shown. Under nondegeneracy conditions the stability of the coincidence set is shown with respect to the variation of the data and with respect to approximation by semilinear hyperbolic problems. These results are applied to the asymptotic stability of the evolution problem with respect to the stationary coercive problem with obstacle.

Background Stroke aetiology remains cryptogenic in a relevant proportion of patients with acute ischaemic stroke(AIS).We assessed whether enhanced diagnostic workup after AIS yields a higher rate of prespecified pathological findings compared with routine diagnostic care *** Hospitalised patients with AIS were prospectively enrolled in the investigator-initiated observational HEart and BRain Interfaces in Acute Ischaemic Stroke(HEBRAS)study at the Charité,Berlin,*** with AIS without known atrial fibrillation(Af)underwent cardiovascular MR imaging(CMR),MR-angiography of the aortic arch and prolonged Holter-ECG monitoring on top of routine diagnostic *** Among 356 patients with AIS(mean age 66 years,37.6%female),enhanced workup yielded a higher rate of prespecified pathological findings compared with routine care(17.7%vs 5.3%;pfewer patients were classified as cryptogenic after enhanced diagnostic workup(38.5%vs 45.5%,pfully performed in 292(82.0%)patients and revealed more often a prespecified pathological finding compared with routine echocardiography(16.1%vs 5.3%).furthermore,study-related ECG monitoring(median duration 162 hours(IQR 98–210))detected Af in 16(4.5%)patients,while routine monitoring(median duration 51 hours(IQR 34–74))detected Af in seven(2.0%)*** Enhanced diagnostic workup revealed a higher rate of prespecified pathological findings in patients with AIS compared with routine diagnostic care and significantly reduced the proportion of patients with cryptogenic *** registration number NCT02142413.

EffECTS Of Cr ON THE LONGTIME EMBRITTLEMENT Of ALLOY 718

Current studies of high temperature materials have focused on the longtime behavior of materials in an effort to extend the life of service components. High temperature materials which appear to be stable in short exposure times can become unstable when exposed in a temperature range of up to 1200°f for times of 10,000 to 100,000 hours. Most alloys used in this temperature range are high Cr alloys and the superalloy most commonly used is alloy 718. Whether alloy 718 is used in aerospace or other industrial applications, the behavior of Cr on the formation of carbides,sigma phase, or other Cr rich intermetallic phase plays an important role in the eventual embrittlement of the *** 718 is limited to temperatures of 1200°f or below because of the occurrence of large amounts of transformations of the strengthening phase γ′to the delta plate phase with the resultant loss of impact and yield *** ongoing longtime behavior studies of alloy 718 at 1200°f,the impact property of alloy 718 drops from 38 ft-lbs to less than 8 ft-lbs in exposures of 50,000 hours. The initial drop in impact occurs without apparent changes in the strengthening phase; however, an αCr phase is starting to form and grows with time of *** results of a study of the role of αCr on the longtime embrittled engine run turbine disks and isothermally exposed alloy 718 will be presented. The factors which affect the αCr formation will be discussed.

Laser induced photo-detachment of O2 in DC discharge

Determination of the negative ion number density of O2 and O in a DC discharge of oxygen plasma was made employing Langmuir probe in conjunction with eclipse laser photo- detachment technique. The temporal evolution of the extra electrons resulting from the photo- detachment of O2- and O- were used to evaluate the negative ion number density. The ratio of O2 number density to O varied from 0.03 to 0.22. Number density of both O~ and O increased with increasing power and decreased as the pressure was increased. Electron number density was evaluated from the electron energy distribution function （EEDf） using the I-V recorded characteristic curves. Electron temperature between 2 and 2.7 eV were obtained. Influence of the 02（al△g） metastable state is discussed.
