In 2013 a new collaborative center was established in Wellington, New Zealand to focus on integrating resilience research with the region’s community disaster resilience strategy. An earlier study with parties to this center had indicated that researcher and practitioner groups were divided by attention to their own immediate knowledge and skills, but agreed there was a need to maximize community resilience benefits amongst a regional population. An action research workshop of researchers and practitioners used a visual logic model to focus on the pragmatic benefits of improving community resilience. The visual logic model was used to design research activities that would improve the regional community resilience strategy, which was still in an early implementation *** of 14 workshop participants were interviewed following the workshop. Statistical content analysis of interview data highlighted certain strengths of the action research process: visual monitoring and evaluation planning was a catalyst for complicated conversations between two very different groups of professionals; and researchers became more focused on practical issues as a result. Other findings suggested that in future collaborative researchgovernance would benefit from wider cycles of strategic intelligence, enhanced research contributions, and the use of different information formats for different *** formats for different purposes should also be considered when developing and implementing large-scale disaster risk reduction policies and strategies.

Hydrogenation, crystal structure and magnetic properties of La（Fe0.91Si0.09）13H（D）y have been studied by pressure-composition isotherms （PCI）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） and magnetization measurements. The maximum absorption capacity is found to be 1.9 H（D） atoms per formula unit as a solid solution. All hydrides and deuterides crystallize in the NaZnl3-type cubic structure with the lattice parameter increasing linearly with H（D） concentration. The H（D） absorption enhances the Curie temperature significantly. The magnetic entropy change of the highly H-absorbed compound La（Feo.91Sio.09）13H1.81 reaches -26 j/kg-K under a magnetic field change of 5 T near the Curie temperature Tc =350 K. No observable isotope effect seems to imply that only the magnetovolume effect is responsible for the strong interplay between magnetism and lattice.

Mammillaria pectinifera is an endemic, short-globose cactus species, included in the IUCN list as a threatened species with only 18 remaining populations in the Tehuacfin-Cuicatlan Valley in central Mexico. We evaluated the population genetic diversity and structure, connectivity, recent bottlenecks and population size, using nuclear microsatellites. M. pectinifera showed high genetic diversity but some evidence of heterozygote deficiency （F15）, recent bottlenecks in some populations and reductions in population size. Also, we found low population genetic differentiation and high values of connectivity for M. pectinifera, as the result of historical events of gene flow through pollen and seed dispersal. M. pectinifera occurs in sites with some degree of disturbance leading to the isolation of its populations and decreasing the levels of gene flow among them. Excessive deforestation also changes the original vegetation damaging the natural habitats. This species will become extinct if it is not properly preserved. Furthermore, this species has some ecological features that make them more vulnerable to disturbance such as a very low growth rates and long life cycles. We suggest in situ conservation to prevent the decrease of population sizes and loss of genetic diversity in the natural protected areas such as the Tehuacan-Cuicatlan Biosphere Reserve. In addition, a long-term ex situ conservation program is need to construct seed banks, and optimize seed germination and plant establishment protocols that restore disturbed habitats. Furthermore, creating a supply of living plants for trade is critical to avoid further extraction of plants from nature.

Within a given free-range flock,some hens prefer to spend the majority of their time in the shed(stayers),while others frequently access the range(rangers).Laying performance has been associated not only with the development of these sub-populations but also with different body weights(BW).The purpose of this study was to determine if range usage,BW or a combination of both is associated with energy metabolism and as such co ntribute to improved hen ***-eight Lohmann Brown hens at 74 wk of age were selected from a commercial free-range farm based on their BW and range usage over a 56-week *** a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement,hens were either classified as heavy(mean ± SEM;2.01±0.02 kg,n=24) or light(1.68±0,01 kg,n=24),and also classified as rangers(accessed the range for 84.1 % of available days,242±3.75 d;n=24) or stayers(accessed the range for 7.17% of available days;23,4±6.08 d,n=24).Stayers had significantly higher metabolizable energy(ME) intake per metabolic BW per d(0.852 vs.0.798 Mj/kg BW0.75 perd;P=0.025),higher heat production(0.637 vs.0.607 Mj/kg BW0.75 perd;P=0.005),higher heat increment(0.267 vs.0.237 Mj/kg BW0.75 per d;P=0.005) and retained more nitrogen(1.59 vs.1.46 g/hen perd;P=0.023) compared to the *** hens had significantly higher metabolic energy intake per metabolic BW(0.854 vs.0.796 Mj/kg BW0.75 per d;P=0.018),net energy(NE) intake(0.595 vs.0.551 Mj/kg BW0.75 per d;P=0.032),and retained energy(0.225 vs.0.181 Mj/kg BW0.75 per d;P=0.032),as well as lower heat production(0.936 vs.1.003 Mj/hen per d;P=0.002) compared to heavier *** interaction was observed across levels of analysis *** light stayers and light *** light rangers had significantly higher NE intake compared to the light stayers(9.77 vs.9.27 Mj/kg BW0.75 per d;P=0.024).In conclusion,light hens were more energy efficient compared to heavy ***,light rangers had a more efficient feed utilisation compared to the light stayers.

In the search of lead-free piezoelectric materials,ceramic processing techniques offer potential tools to increase the piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties in addition to new chemical *** of pure BNKT16(Bi0.5(Na0.84K0.16)0.5TiO3)phase were synthesized by sol–gel method with a low crystallization temperature(750℃).Ceramic samples were sintered by pressureless sintering(PLS),sinter-forging(SF),and spark plasma sintering(SPS)***,morphological,and chemical characterizations were performed by XRD,Raman,EDS,and *** samples by PLS and SF exhibit rod-like grains associated to bismuth *** highest remanent polarization(11.05μC/cm2),coercive field(26.2 kV/mm),and piezoelectric coefficient(165 pC/N)were obtained for SF *** piezoresponse force microscopy(PFM)analysis shows that the crystallites at the nanoscale exhibit piezoelectric phenomenon and the highest piezoelectric response is reported for PLS *** presence of the rhombohedral phase,the increase in grain and crystallite size,and the oriented rod-like inclusions favoring the crystallographic texture are facts that enhance the piezoelectric coefficient for BNKT16 piezoceramics.

This study aimed to characterize the physical-chemical and biological properties of pectin(PC)/chia seed mucilage(CM)***/CM[100/0(control),80/20%,60/40%,and 40/60%w/w]membranes were prepared using the casting *** membranes(PC/CM)were thin,yellow,lightly opaque(≈10%)and capable of blocking light UVB(between 66 at 52%).SEM analysis showed the presence of aggregates in the shape of a sphere(≈13μm)and ovoid(≈25μm).The proportion of 80/20 showed an increase in tensile strength(29%)and elastic modulus(19%)when compared to the *** analysis exhibited intermolecular interactions between PCPC,PC-CM,and CM-CM in the *** thermal analysis(600°C)showed a slight improvement in the percentage of residual mass-loss of 3.31%(80/20)that *** 40/60 membrane showed the lowest percentage of hemolysis(2.94%)but limited human albumin adsorption *** results suggested that the blend PC/CM may be considered as a biomaterial for medical applications.
