Geochemical studies of hybrid granite from Madugulapalli area, Eastern Dharwar Craton, Southern india: implications for crustal mixing

Magma produced by melting of continental crust and mantle at the Archean-Proterozoic boundary are compositionally variable and chemical compositions provide evidence for the mixing of two sources. Understanding the composition of hybrid magma is essential for determining the comparative infl uence of crust and mantle sources during orogenesis. The hybrid granites are less documented in indian cratons, especially less in Dharwar Craton. Here we present petrographic and whole-rock geochemical data of Madgulapalli granitic rocks situated in the NE part of the Eastern Dharwar Craton(EDC), to elucidate their petrogenesis and role in crust formation. The Madugulapalli granites(MPG) are composed chiefl y of plagioclase, quartz, and alkali feldspar with associated biotite showing alteration and inter-granular textures. Geochemically, they are metaluminous to peraluminous in nature with calc-alkaline hybrid granite. The hybrid granites exhibit both negative and positive europium anomalies;the lower Rb/Sr, Rb, Sr, and higher Sr/Y,(Dy/Yb)N ratios suggest that the interaction of older rocks with residual garnet source melted at high pressures. We hypothesize that hybrid granites are formed by interaction(e.g., metasomatism, mingling, or mixing) between parental magmas and pre-existing rocks with the infl uence of sanukitoid melts(heat source) in a subduction environment. The genesis of the hybrid granites demonstrates the mixing coupled with diff erentiation in the petrogeny’s residue system in a syn-collision setting followed by continental crust stability in EDC during the Neoarchean period.

A NOVEL THEORY OF EFFECTiVE MEchANiCAL PROPERTiES OF CLOSED-CELL FOAM MATERiALS

in this paper a new theory of effective mechanical properties of foam materials is proposed. A cell volume distribution coefficient is introduced to modify the original Gibson-Ashby equations of effective mechanical properties of foam materials. The constants that influence the effective modulus are replaced by the coeff^cient. Based on the modified distribution coefficient, the yield stress is also recalculated. Using X-ray microtomography, the internal structures of dif- ferent samples of polypropylene-nanoclay foam are obtained. The cell volume distributions of these samples are derived from the experiment by image analysis and the fitting curves are plot- ted. The distribution coefficient is acquired using the parameters from the theoretical model of the distribution curves. The results of the improved theory are compared with the experimental values and show good fitting quality. it was found that the precision of the improved theory is high and the cell volume distribution has an impact on the effective mechanical properties that would lead to the optimization of the synthesis procedure.

The electrochemical properties of MEH-PPV were: studied in ionic liquid([bmim](+)[PF6](-)) by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and AC impedance measurements. Both p- and n-doping of MEH-PPV were observed in the cyclic voltammograms, The chronoamperometric and AC impedance results indicate that the p-doping of MEH-PPV was controlled by the linear diffusion of counterions.

Evaluation of the Cr(Vi) and other toxic element contamination and their potential sources:The case of the Thiva basin(Greece)

An integrated approach was performed on the soil, plant-crops and groundwater system at the Thiva basin, to evaluate the extent and intensity of the heavy metal contamination, the percentage of metals transferred into plants/crops （bio-accumulation） and the potential sources of contamination. Heavy metal contents （230--310 Cr, 1200--2200 Ni, 50--80 Co, 880--1150 Mn and 44,500--66,200 Fe all in ppm ） in the Thiva soils are higher than those in the Assopos basin. An increasing trend in the heavy metal contents, from the Assopos to the Thiva basin （Mouriki）, indicates that the metal source is probably the Ni-laterites and ophiolites, located towards north. On the other hand, groundwater samples from domestic and irrigation wells throughout the Thiva basin exhibit relatively low （8--37 ppb） concentrations in Cr compared to the Assopos （up to 150 ppb）. The plots of Cr versus Mg/Ca, Mg/Na versus Ca/Na, B versus Si/（Si ＋ Na） and Mg/Si versus Ca/Si ratios revealed a low degree of salinization in the Thiva compared to that in the Assopos （Avlida） basin. The low Cr concentration （average 23 ppb, during dry period） in the Thiva wells may be related with their depth （〉120 m）, in contrast to shallow wells in the central Euboea （hundreds ppb Cr） and points to a solution of a crucial environmental problem in Euboea and Assopos basin by using the deep karst-type aquifer instead the shallow-Neogene one. The average Cr contents （dry weight） ranges from 1.7 to 4.6 ppm （average 2.2） in carrots, potatoes and onions. The percentage of soil metals Crto^i, Cr（Vl）, Ni, Mn and Fe ranges between 0.06 and 3.2 （average （/.53 ~ 0.4）, whilst that for Cu and Zn ranges from 16 to 81 （average 36 ~ 24）. The Cr transfer to plants is low, due to the high resistance of chromite （main host of Cr）, but the determined Cr contents in plant- crops in the Thiva basin are higher than normal or sufficient vahles. The Tsagaanbulag Formation of the Ulaan-Shand section in the Shine jinst area was assigned to Silurian (Wenlock-Pridoli) previously. But the present authors have found some very important conodonts, including Lanea omoalpha, Amydrotaxis johnsoni, "Ozarkodina"planililingua, Pedavis sp., from the Tsagaanbulag and Amansair formations, clearly indicating that these two formations should be assigned to middle Lochkovian which are widely distributed in china and Mongolia. The existence of the marine Wenlockain and early Ludlovian deposits in Mongolia is a noteworthy problem.

3D Micromechanical Modeling of Failure and Damage Evolution in Dual Phase Steel Based on a Real 2D Microstructure

A plate of dual phase steel was produced from low carbon steel with intercritical annealing treatment. its optically determined surface microstructure was utilized to construct three different microstructural models. To describe the ductile damage in the ferritic matrix, the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman model was used with the failure in the martensite phase being ignored. The numerical results obtained for the mechanism of void initiation and coalescence were compared with the experimental observations. The numerical results obtained from the randomly extruded 3D model showed a significantly better agreement with the experimental ones than those obtained from the 2D model or the uniformly extruded 3D model.

Synthesis and optical properties of nanosized CdS prepared in a quaternary CTAB/n-hexanol/n-heptane/water reverse micelle

Quaternary water-in-oil reverse micelles consisting of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), n-hexanol, n-heptane and water were prepared and characterized. The optimized reaction conditions were determined, and monodispersed droplets of the reverse micelles were used as microreactors to synthesize CdS nanoparticles. By using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy, the influences of the reverse micelle components on the size, size distribution, morphology, stability and optical properties of CdS nanoparticles were investigated. CdS nanoparticles with narrow size distribution were obtained and the size range is 6-8 nm when W=24 (W=[water]/[CTAB]), F=5.27 (P=[n-hexanol]/ [CTAB]), [CTAB]=0.2 mol/L, [Cd2+] and [S2-] are 8.45×10-4 mol/L.
