This study presents a survey of wild plants commonly used by local inhabitants in the highlands of southwest Saudi Arabia. Based upon literature review, direct observation of local inhabitants, and questionnaire interviews, 36 plant species were assessed and given scores according to their use. The gaps between scientific and indigenous knowl- edge on the use of plants were estimated using a ＂compatibility ratio＂. The score values were estimated based on seven different use categories of ecosystem services, including food, forage, medicine, wood, beekeeping, research, and education. Additional structural categories include source of materials, shade, hedges, ornamental plantings, and soil stabilization. There are discrepancies between indigenous knowledge （ik） and scien- tific knowledge （SK） but in most cases, SK of the species supports the ik and plant users preference. The results also provide information that challenges assumptions about the consistency of ik with SK. Our study highlights the importance of understanding the cultural context and uses of wild plants. Biodiversity-based knowledge holds promise for contributing to sustainable use of wild plant resources and related traditions. The success of such endeavours depends on the compatibility and complementarity of indigenous and scientific knowledge.

为观察胞外钙对豚鼠耳蜗单个离体Deiters细胞钾电流的调控作用并探讨其机制,实验记录了:Deiters细胞在正常细胞外液和无钙外液中的全细胞钾电流(whole cell K+ currents,ik),并分析了其电生理学特性的改变。结果观察到,Deiters 细胞与在正常细胞外液中相比,在祛除细胞外液中的Ca2+后,ik电流幅值明显增加,弦电导值亦明显增加,但其平衡电位未明显改变。在无钙外液中,ik电流的反转电位向超极化方向明显移位,更接近于按照Nernst方程得出的K+理论平衡电位;而且其稳态激活曲线亦向超极化方向明显移位,但其激活趋势与正常相比无明显改变。此外,观察了Deiters细胞中钙抑制性钾电流的电流-电压关系和电导-电压关系,发现两者均呈“S”形,提示此钙抑制性钾电流可能存在2种不同的钾电导成分。由此,推测可能有两种机制参与胞外钙对Deiters细胞钾电流的调控:(1)Deiters细胞中的ik通道可能存在一个Ca2+敏感结构域,胞外Ca2+可能通过改变此结构域而对ik电流产生调制;(2)Deiters细胞中可能存在一种新型的双相门控性钾通道或钾通道耦联型受体或是一种新型的钾通道亚型,祛除胞外Ca2+可激活此新型钾电导而对ik电流产生调制。由此推测,在听觉形成过程中,胞外钙浓度下降可以对Deiters细胞的全细胞钾电流产生调制,从而更有利于Deiters细胞内K+外流,进而有效地缓冲外毛细胞周围的K+浓度;而且还可以使Deiters细胞产生更快的复极化并有利于维持其静息状态。

This review gives a concise introduction to the state-of-art techniques used for surface texturing, e.g., wet etching, plasma etching, laser surface texturing (LST), 3D printing, etc. In order to fabricate deterministic textures with the desired geometric structures and scales, the innovative texturing technologies are developed and extended. Such texturing technology is an emerging frontier with revolutionary impact in industrial and scientific fields. With the help of the latest fabrication technologies, surface textures are scaling down and more complex deterministic patterns may be fabricated with desired functions, e.g., lotus effect (hydrophobic), gecko feet (adhesive), haptic tactile, etc. The objective of this review is to explore the surface texturing technology and its contributions to the applications.

Tactile perception is a complex system, which depends on frictional interactions between skin and counter-body. The contact mechanics of tactile friction is governed by many factors such as the state and properties of skin and counter-body. In order to discover the connection between perception and tactile friction on textured stainless steel sheets, both perception experiments (subjective) and tactile friction measurements (objective) were performed in this research. The perception experiments were carried out by using a panel test method to identify the perceived roughness, perceived stickiness and comfort level from the participants. For the friction experiments, tactile friction was measured by a multi-axis force/torque transducer in vivo. The perceived stickiness was illustrated as an effective subjective stimulus, which has a negative correlation to the comfort perception. No significant evidence was revealed to the connection between the perceived roughness and comfort perception, and this relationship may be influenced by the participants’ individual experience, gender and moisture level of skin. Furthermore, the kinetic tactile friction was concluded as an objective stimulus to the comfort perception with a negative correlation.

＜正＞Aim:Previous studies have shown the dramatic changes in electrical properties of murine fetal cardiomyocytes,while details on inward rectifier potassium current（ik1） are still seldom *** we aimed to characterize the functional expression and functional role of ik1 in murine fetal ventricular cardiomyocytes. Method:Whole cell patch clamp was applied to investigate the electrophysiological properties of *** real-time PCR,western blotting and double-label immunofluorescence were further utilized to find out the molecular basis of ***:Compared to early developmental stage（EDS）,ik1 at late developmental stage（LDS） displayed higher current density,stronger rectifier property and faster activation *** was paralleled with the downregulation of Kir2.3 and the upregulation of Kir2.1/***1 contributed to maintain the maximum diastolic potential（MDP）,late repolarization phase（LRP） as well as the action potential duration（APD）.However,the contribution to MDP and velocity of LRP did not change significantly with ***:During fetal development,the switch of ik1 subtypes from Kir2.1/Kir2.3 to Kir2.1 resulted in the dramatic changes in ik1 electrophysiological properties.

More than 10,000 medicinals are used in China,and more than 100,000 Chinese medicinal recipes have been listed.1 Traditional Chinese medicines were first documented about 2500 years ago by Confucian scholars and are now used by millions around the world.2,3 As one of the positive signs of world globalization,the integration of the traditional Chinese and Western medical practices has begun in multiple medical centers,4,5 and there is increasing evidence that several herbs or combinations of herbs used in traditional Chinese medicines have reproducible pharmacological effects.6 Recently,there has been a growing interest in elucidating the mechanisms by which traditional Chinese recipes are beneficial so as to further comprehend mechanisms and implement active pharmacophores.2,7-9 In cardiac electrophysiology,for example,several herbal components have been proposed as antiarrhythmic *** of the recipe Shenmai,which include the components ginseng saponins,radix ophiopogonis saponins,and radix ophiopogonis flavonoids as well as traces of ginseng polysaccharides and radix ophiopogonis polysaccharide,were found to prolong effective refractory periods and enable conversion of atrial fibrillation into sinus rhythm.10 Also,shensong yangxin,a well-known compound described in the Chinese Materia Medica textbook8 assembled in the sixteenth century during the Ming dynasty,was reported to block multiple ion channels(INa,ICaL,Ito,and ik1) and to have antiarrhythmic effects.11 Furthermore,acacetin,the natural compound from the traditional Chinese medicine Xuelianhuais,was suggested to be an atrial-selective agent and to have antiarrhythmic properties related to the blockade of the ultrarapid delayed rectifier potassium.

Modelling Pyrolysis Kinetics Effect on a Pilot Scale Conical...

The aim of this work is to focus on spouted bed reactor operating conditions at ikerlan-ik4 pyrolysis pilot scale plant, designed for 25 kg/h biomass feeding rate. Specifically, bed temperature and particle size were studied. As well as cold flow hydrodynamic studies, heat transfer characteristics and pyrolysis kinetics were also studied in order to predict the performance of the reactor. Conical spouted bed allows stable operation with very irregular biomass/sand mixtures without segregation. In this work raw material particle size effect has been discussed because it is closely related with pyrolysis mechanism and the regime which controlled the process. The role of the internal and external heat transfer is highly dependent on the particle size. For particles bigger than 1.5 mm the internal heat transfer is the limiting factor, so the external heat transfer is a secondary factor for these size particles. These previous results and the experimental work in our pilot plant will serve as a basis for a more accurate modelling.

电荷耦合器件(CCD)作为采样存储器,与用来进行脉冲压缩的声表面波(SAW)延迟线相结合,可使傅里叶变换信号处理机得到改进。改进了的傅里叶变换信号处理机所付的成本是合算的,并与数字快速傅里叶变换处理机性能不相上下。本文介绍的线性调频Z变换(CZT),可用来对时间压缩和线性调频脉冲进行中频处理。这样允许采样信号以毫秒或更慢的周期存储在电荷耦合器件存储器中,然后以微秒用线性调频滤波器进行Z变换。这样就得到了一个速度相当高的频谱分析。某些应用既要求幅度信息,又要求相位信息。本文示出了通过消除残余的二次相位而达到线性复合输出的结构图形,使旁瓣性能与变换大小无关。对于多路通道频谱分析系统,为了实际上使结构达到体积小而成本合算的目的,必须研究两种关键性的器件:线性可寻址的ik单元CCD存储器,铋锖氧化物大时间带宽乘积(1420)SAW线性调频延迟线。

PURPOSE: To evaluate the probability of a single intraocular pressure measurem ent to be the highest measurement within a diurnal intraocular pressure profile. DESIGN: Hospital-based clinical, observational study. METHODS: The study inclu ded 3,025 day-and-night intraocular pressure profiles measured on 1,072 eyes o f 547 Caucasian glaucoma patients or glaucoma suspects. Applanation tonometrywas performed at 7 am, noon, 5 pm, 9 pm, and midnight. RESULTS: Intraocular pressure measurements were highest at 7 am, noon, 5 pm, 9 pm, and midnight, respectively, in 20.4%, 17.8%, 21.3%13.9 %, and 26.7%of the profiles, respectively. The measurement taken at 7 am was s ignificantly (P< .001) closest to the maximal value of the profile. CONCLUSIONS: Any single intraocular pressure measurement taken between 7 am and 9 pm has a h igher than 75%chance to miss the highest point of a diurnal curve. Intraocular pressure may be measured at different times of the day to have the best chance o f observing the maximal value.

An experiment aimed to investigate the two-proton(2p) decay of the previously unknown nucleus ^(30)Ar was performed at GSI. By tracking the decay products in-flight with silicon micro-strip detectors, the 2p decays of ^(30)Ar were observed for the first time. For the calibration purpose, 2p decays of ^(19)Mg were also remeasured by tracking the coincident ^(17)Ne+p+p trajectories. By comparing the measured angular p-17 Ne correlations with those obtained from the corresponding Monte Carlo simulations,the simultaneous 2p decay of ^(19)Mg ground state and the sequential 2p emission of several known excited states of ^(19)Mg were confirmed. One new excited state in ^(19)Mg and two new excited states in ^(18)Na were observed.
