Biofunctionalized all-polymer photonic lab on a chip with integrated solid-state light emitter

A photonic lab on a chip(PhLOC),comprising a solid-state light emitter(SSLE)aligned with a biofunctionalized optofluidic multiple internal reflection(MIR)system,is *** SSLE is obtained by filling a microfluidic structure with a phenyltrimethoxysilane(PhTMOS)aqueous sol solution containing a fluorophore organic *** curing,the resulting xerogel solid structure retains the emitting properties of the fluorophore,which is evenly distributed in the xerogel *** studies demonstrate that after a total dose(at λ5365 nm)greater than 24 j cm^(-2),the xerogel emission decay is only 4.1%.To re-direct the emitted light,the SSLE includes two sets of air mirrors that surround the *** mapping of the SSLE demonstrates that alignment variations of 150 mm(between the SSLE and the external pumping light source)provide fluctuations in emitted light smaller than 5%.After this verification,the SSLE is monolithically implemented with a MIR,forming the *** performance is assessed by measuring quinolone yellow,obtaining a limit of detection(LOD)of(0.6060.01)***,the MIR is selectively biofunctionalized with horseradish peroxidase(HRP)for the detection of hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))target analyte,obtaining a LOD of(0.760.1)μM for H_(2)O_(2),confirming,for the first time,that solid-state xerogel-based emitters can be massively implemented in biofunctionalized PhLOCs.

Observing the stages of bystander intervention in virtual reality simulation

BACKGROUND: Understanding bystander reactions to an emergency is an important component of effective training. Four stages of bystander intervention (BI) have been previously described: noticing the situation as a problem, interpreting when it is appropriate to intervene, recognizing personal responsibility to intervene, and knowing how to intervene. Using virtual reality (VR) to simulate emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can be used to study these stages. METHODS: In a secondary analysis of an observational cohort study, we analyzed bystander self-effi cacy for stages of BI before and after simulated SCA. Each subject participated in a singleplayer, immersive, VR SCA scenario. Subjects interacted with simulated bystanders through voice commands (“call 911”,“get an AED”). Actions taken in scenario, like performing CPR, were documented. Scenario BI actions were compared based on dichotomized comfort/discomfort. RESULTS: From june 2016 to june 2017, 119 subjects participated. Average age was 37±14 years, 44% were female and 46% reported CPR training within 2 years. During the scenario, 98%“noticed the event” and “interpreted it as a problem”, 78%“took responsibility”, and 54%“possessed the necessary skills”. Self-effi cacy increased from pre- to post-scenario: noticing the event increased from 80% to 96%;interpreting as a problem increased from 86% to 97%;taking responsibility increased from 56% to 93%;possessing necessary skills increased from 47% to 63%(P<0.001). CONCLUSION: Self-efficacy to respond to an SCA event increased pre- to post-scenario. Bystanders who reported feeling comfortable “taking responsibility to intervene” during an emergency were more likely to take action during a simulated emergency.

Intellectual property rights(IPR)management needs to evolve in a digital world where not only companies but also many independent content creators contribute to our culture with their art,music,and *** this respect,blockchain has recently emerged as a promising infrastructure,providing a trustworthy and immutable environment through the use of smart contracts,which may enable more agile management of digital rights and streamline royalty ***,no widespread consensus has been reached on the ability of this technology to adequately manage and transfer *** paper presents an innovative approach to digital rights management developed within the scope of an international research endeavour co-financed by the European Commission named *** approach proposes the combined usage of smart legal contracts and blockchain smart contracts to take care of the legally binding contractual aspects of IPR and,at the same time,the need for notarization,rights transfer,and royalty *** work being conducted represents a contribution to advancing the current literature on IPR management that may lead to an improved and fairer monetization process for content creators as a means of individual empowerment.

诺维氏梭状芽胞杆菌(Clostridium novyi)是致使两例成年伊比利亚妊娠母猪死亡的可疑致病因,其中一例伴随着充气性肝坏死,快速腐烂,尸体鼓胀,并缺乏其他任何可检测到的死因。厌氧培养能够产生大量梭状芽胞杆菌样微生物,而B型诺维氏梭状芽胞杆菌可以通过多重PCR分析鉴定得到。在妊娠母猪意外死亡的病例中,兽医需要注意到导致死亡的最普遍因素,包括诺维氏梭状芽胞杆菌的感染。为了达到正确的诊断,尸体检查是必要的,并在死后尽快收集样本。此外,运用PCR的方法能够对诺维氏梭状芽胞杆菌及其相关种型进行快速鉴定。

This study investigates the influence of electropolymerization conditions on the deposition of polypyrrole(PPy)onto cotton-derived carbon fiber(CF)modified with reduced graphene oxide(rGO)for supercapacitors applications using an experimental/theorical *** surface modification of CF by rGO and/or by PPy electrodeposited at 10,25 and 50 mV s^(-1) was thoroughly examined physicochemical and *** electrodes comprising CF-rGo-PPy,synthesized via electropolymerization at 25 mV s^(-1),demonstrated a remarkable increase in capacitance,showcasing~742 F g^(-1) compared to 153 F g^(-1) for ***,N_(2)-surface area,XPS,and TD-DFT approach revealed that the higher capacitance observed in CF-rGo-PPy electrodes underscores the influence of morphology and charged nitrogen species on the electrochemical performance of these modified ***,this electrode material achieves a specific capacitance retention of~96%of their initial capacitance after 10000 cycles at 0.5 A g^(-1) measured in a two-electrodes cell *** work also discusses the influence of the scan rate used for pyrrole electropolymerization on the pseudocapacitance contribution of PPy and its possible effect on the porosity of the *** results highlight the importance of appropriate electropolymerization conditions that allow obtaining the synergistic effect between CF,rGO and PPy.
