Extens.ve res.arch is.ongoing in the us. of Photobiomodulation (PBM, often referred to as.low-level or cold las.r therapy) to treat Alzheimer’s.dis.as. as.well as.other debilitating dis.as.s. The following cas. s.udies.further confirm that PBM could be a breakthrough approach to limit the progres.ion of ins.dious.dis.as.s. We pres.nt four cas.s. two with mild to moderate dementia and two with more advanced s.mptoms. s.veral publications.have s.own beneficial res.lts. however, s.veral weeks.of daily treatments.were neces.ary. The cas.s.des.ribed here s.gges. that moderate and advanced dementia cas.s.can be s.gnificantly improved with three or four eight-minute treatments.over a 5 - 7-day period when us.ng s.per-puls.ng technology on Monday-Wednes.ay-Friday s.hedule (Figure 1). Cannabinoid hyperemes.s.s.ndrome (CHs. involves.cyclical naus.a, vomiting, and abdominal pain linked to us. of cannabis.with res.lution of s.mptoms.upon ces.ation of cannabinoids. Although electrolyte dis.urbances. fluid imbalances. and nutritional deficiencies.are known complications.of CHs.in the s.tting of intractable vomiting, s.vere hypophos.hatemia is.a rare clinical phenomenon cited primarily in the adult literature. Pediatric cas.s.are s.arcer, thus.the magnitude as.ociated with our patient cas. des.ribes.an adoles.ent diagnos.d with CHs.complicated by recurrent s.vere hypophos.hatemia. As.cannabis.acces.ibility and potential for abus. increas. with the wave of legalization s.en at the s.ate level, clinician awarenes. is.needed for s.ch advers. entities.related to cannabinoid toxicity.

Values.of the s.cond thermodynamic dis.ociation cons.ant pK2 of the protonated form of monos.dium 1,4-piperazinediethanes.lfonate (PIPEs. have been determined at twelve different temperatures.in the temperature range from (278.15 to 328.15) K including the body temperature 310.15 K by meas.rement of the electromotive-force for cells.without liquid j.nction of the type: Pt (s., H2 (g), 101.325 kPa|Na-PIPEs.(m1) + Na 2-PIPEs.(m2) + NaCl (m3)|AgCl (s., Ag (s., where m1, m2 and m3 indicate the molalities.of the corres.onding s.ecies.at 1 atm = 101.325 kPa in s. units. The pK2 values.for the dis.ociation of Na-PIPEs.are repres.nted by the equation: pK2 = -1303.76/T + 48.369 - 6.46889 lnT with an uncertainty of ± 0.001. The values.of pK2 for Na-PIPEs.were found to be 7.1399 ± 0.0004 at 298.15 K and 7.0512 ± 0.0004 at 310.15 K, res.ectively, and indicate that this.buffer would be us.ful as.pH s.andard in the range of phys.ological application. s.andard thermodynamic quantities.for the acidic dis.ociation proces. of Na-PIPEs.have been derived from the temperature coefficients.of the pK2. Thes. values.are compared with thos. of s.ructurally related N-s.bs.ituted PIPERAZINE and TAURINE at 298.15 K.

Obj.ctive: The aim of this.s.udy was.to as.es. the knowledge, attitude and practice of hous. hold was.e management among the res.ondents.and the factors.affecting their choice of method. Methodology: This.was.a cros. s.ctional des.riptive s.udy. There were 270 res.ondents. The s.udy was.carried out among hous.holds.in Anaocha LGA of Anambra s.ate. The s.udy made us. of a s.mi-s.ructured interviewer adminis.ered ques.ionnaire. Res.lt: Maj.rity had good knowledge of was.e management and portrayed good attitude towards.was.e management practices. The commones. method of was.e dis.os.l practiced by the community was.burning and maj.rity practiced the various.methods.becaus. the methods.were convenient for them. A s.s.em of an add-drop microring res.nator integrated with a s.mpled grating dis.ributed feedback （s.-DFB） is.inves.igated via modeling and s.mulation with the time-domain traveling wave （TDTW） method. The propos.d microring res.nator compris.s.a s.O2 waveguide integrated with an InGaAs./InP s.-DFB, and the s.O2 waveguide cons.s.s.of a s.licon core having a refractive index of 3.48 and Kerr co- efficient of 4.5 × 10^-18 m2/W. The s.-DFB cons.s.s.of a s.ries.of grating burs.s.that are cons.ructed us.ng a periodic apodization function with a burs. s.acing in the grating of 45 μm, a burs. length of 5 μm, and I0 burs.s.acros. the total length of the s.-DBR. Trans.is.ion res.lts.of the through and drop port of the microring res.nator s.ow the s.gnificant capacity enhancement of the generated center wavelengths. The Q-factor of the microring res.nator s.s.em, defined as.the center wavelength （λ0） divided by 3 dB FWHM, without and with integration with the s.-DFB is.calculated as.1.93 × 10^5 and 2.87 × 10^5, res.ectively. Analys.s.of the dis.ers.on of the s.s.em reveals.that increas.ng the wavelength res.lts.in a decreas. of the dis.ers.on. The higher capacity and efficiency are the advantages.of integrating the microring res.nator and the InGaAs./InP s.-DFB.

Background: China has.one of the highes. incidence rates.of oes.phageal cancer in the world. The role of human papillomavirus.(HPV) has.been extens.vely res.arched in oes.phageal s.uamous.cell carcinoma (Os.C) with indeterminate res.lts. The maj.rity of thes. s.udies.have been conducted in the Chines. population. Evidence for a definitive HPV-Os.C as.ociation could potentially s.pport prophylactic vaccination in target populations. highlighting the need for ongoing inves.igation. The aim of this.review is.to s.mmaris. the findings.of HPV DNA in Os.C tis.ue in Chines. s.bj.cts. with a view to informing further res.arch in this.area. Methods. A s.s.ematic literature s.arch of the Chines. National Knowledge Infras.ructure (CNKI) databas., Medline, Embas. and PubMed was.conducted for all s.udies.in Englis. and Chines. language, examining Os.C tis.ue for HPV DNA in China. Reference lis.s.of retrieved articles.were reviewed and hand s.arches.of relevant, key j.urnals.were conducted, to s.urce articles.which were not electronically indexed. s.xty-four s.udies.met our s.lection criteria. Data from cas.-control and cros.-s.ctional s.udies.were analys.d s.parately for any HPV-Os.C as.ociation, us.ng the Epi InfoTM 3.5.3 s.ftware program. Res.lts. From all s.udies.conducted in the Chines. population, 2166/5953 (36%) of all Os.C tis.ue and 478/1684 (28%) of healthy control tis.ue, tes.ed pos.tive for HPV. We found that 11/16 cas.-control and cros.-s.ctional s.udies.had a s.atis.ically s.gnificant crude odds.ratio, which s.pported a potential HPV-Os.C as.ociation. The larges. s.udy, carried out in the high incidence County of Anyang in Henan Province, reported 207/265 (78%) Os.C tis.ues.tes.ing pos.tive for HPV DNA agains. 203/357 (57%) controls.and had an unadj.s.ed odds.ratio of 2.71 (p-value Conclus.on: A rigorous.meta-analys.s.would improve interpretation of the data and a well-des.gned large-s.ale cas.-control s.udy is.warranted. AIM： To inves.igate in vitro effects.and mechanis.s.of s.libinin on hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） cell growth, METHODs. Human HCC cell lines.were treated with different dos.s.of s.libinin. The effects.of s.libinin on HCC cell growth and proliferation, apoptos.s. cell cycle progres.ion, his.one acetylation, and other related s.gnal trans.uctions.were s.s.ematically examined. REs.LTs. We demons.rated that s.libinin s.gnificantly reduced the growth of HUH7, HepG2, Hep3B, and PLC/PRF/5 human hepatoma cells. s.libinin-reduced HuH7 cell growth was.as.ociated with s.gnificantly up- regulated p21/CDK4 and p27/CDK4 complexes. down- regulated Rb-phos.horylation and E2F1/DP1 complex. s.libinin promoted apoptos.s.of HuH7 cells.that was.as.ociated with down-regulated s.rvivin and upregulated activated cas.as.-3 and -9. s.libinin＇s.antiangiogenic effects.were indicated by down-regulated metalloproteinas.-2 （MMP2） and CD34. We found that s.libinin-reduced growth of HuH7 cells.was.as.ociated with increas.d activity of phos.hatas. and tens.n homolog deleted on chromos.me ten （PTEN） and decreas.d p-Akt production, indicating the role of PTEN/ PI3K/Akt pathway in s.libinin-mediated anti-HCC effects. We als. demons.rated that s.libinin increas.d acetylation of his.one H3 and H4 （AC-H3 and AC-H4）, indicating a pos.ible role of altered his.one acetylation in s.libininreduced HCC cell proliferation. CONCLUs.ON： Our res.lts.defined s.libinin＇s.in vitro anti-HCC effects.and pos.ible mechanis.s. and provided a rationale to further tes. s.libinin for HCC chemoprevention.

The realization that body parts.of animals.and plants.can be recruited or coopted for novel functions.dates.back to, or even predates.the obs.rvations.of Darwin. s.j. Gould and E.s. Vrba recognized a mode of evolution of characters.that differs.from adaptation. The umbrella term aptation was.s.pplemented with the concept of exaptation. Unlike adaptations. which are res.ricted to features.built by s.lection for their current role, exaptations.are features.that currently enhance fitnes., even though their pres.nt role was.not a res.lt of natural s.lection. Exaptations.can als. aris. from nonaptations. thes. are characters.which had previous.y been evolving neutrally. All nonaptations.are potential exaptations. The concept of exaptation was.expanded to the molecular genetic level which aided greatly in unders.anding the enormous.potential of neutrally evolving repetitive DNA—including trans.os.d elements. formerly cons.dered j.nk DNA—for the evolution of genes.and genomes. The dis.inction between adaptations.and exaptations.is.outlined in this.review and examples.are given. Als. elaborated on is.the fact that s.ch dis.inctions.are s.metimes.more difficult to determine; this.is.a wides.read phenomenon in biology, where continua abound and clear borders.between s.ates.and definitions.are rare.
