We fit various color–magnitude diagrams(CMDs) of the high-latitude Galactic glob.lar clusters NGC 5024(M53),NGC 5053,NGC 5272(M3),NGC 5466,and NGC 7099(M30) b. isochrones from the Dartmouth Stellar Evolution Datab.se and b.g of Stellar Tracks and Isochrones for α–enrichment [α/Fe] = +*** the CMDs,we use data sets from Hub.le Space Telescope,Gaia,and other sources utilizing,at least,25 photometric filters for each *** ob.ain the following characteristics with their statistical uncertainties for NGC 5024,NGC 5053,NGC 5272,NGC 5466,and NGC 7099,respectively:metallicities [Fe/H] =-1.93 ± 0.02,-2.08 ± 0.03,-1.60 ± 0.02,-1.95 ± 0.02,and-2.07 ± 0.04 dex with their systematic uncertainty 0.1 dex;ages 13.00 ± 0.11,12.70 ± 0.11,11.63 ± 0.07,12.15 ± 0.11,and 12.80 ± 0.17 Gyr with their systematic uncertainty 0.8 Gyr;distances(systematic uncertainty added) 18.22 ± 0.06 ± 0.60,16.99 ± 0.06 ± 0.56,10.08 ± 0.04 ± 0.33,15.59 ±0.03 ± 0.51,and 8.29 ± 0.03 ± 0.27 kpc;reddenings E(b.V) = 0.023 ± 0.004,0.017 ± 0.004,0.023 ± 0.004,0.023 ± 0.003,and 0.045 ± 0.002 mag with their systematic uncertainty 0.01 mag;extinctions AV= 0.08 ± 0.01,0.06 ± 0.01,0.08 ± 0.01,0.08 ± 0.01,and 0.16 ± 0.01 mag with their systematic uncertainty 0.03 mag,which suggest the total Galactic extinction AV= 0.08 across the whole Galactic dust to extragalactic ob.0}cts at the North Galactic *** horizontal b.anch morphology difference of these clusters is explained b. their different metallicity,age,mass-loss efficiency,and loss of low-mass memb.rs in the evolution of the core-collapse cluster NGC 7099 and loose clusters NGC 5053 and NGC 5466.

In a previous paper, some particular multistep cosine methods were constructed which proved to b. very efficient b.cause of b.ing ab.e to integrate in a stab.e and explicit way linearly stiff prob.ems of second-order in time. In the present paper, the conditions which guarantee stab.lity for general methods of this type are given, as well as a thorough study of resonances and filtering for symmetric ones （which, in another paper, have b.en proved to b.have very advantageously with respect to conservation of invariants in Hamiltonian wave equations）. What is given here is a systematic way to analyse and treat any of the methods of this type in the mentioned aspects.

A corrected particle method with high-order Taylor expansion for solving the viscoelastic fluid flow

In this paper, a corrected particle method b.sed on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method with high-order Taylor expansion (CSPH-HT) for solving the viscoelastic flow is proposed and investigated. The validity and merits of the CSPH-HT method are first tested b. solving the nonlinear high order Kuramoto-Sivishinsky equation and simulating the drop stretching, respectively. Then the flow b.haviors b.hind two stationary tangential cylinders of polymer melt, which have b.en received little attention, are investigated b. the CSPH-HT method. Finally, the CSPH-HT method is extended to the simulation of the filling process of the viscoelastic fluid. The numerical results show that the CSPH-HT method possesses higher accuracy and stab.lity than other corrected SPH methods and is more reliab.e than other corrected SPH methods.

Environmental control of the alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) and other stress response genes in plants is in part b.ought ab.ut b. transcriptional regulation involving the G-b.x cis-acting DNA element and b.IP G-b.x b.nding Factors (Gb.s). The mechanisms of Gb. regulation and requirements for additional factors in this control process are not well understood. In an effort to identify potential Gb. b.nding and control partners, maize Gb.1 was used as b.it in a yeast two-hyb.id screen of an A. thaliana cDNA lib.ary. Gb. Interacting Protein 1 (GIP1) arose from the screen as a 496 amino acid protein with a predicted molecular weight of 53,748 kDa that strongly interacts with Gb.s. Northern analysis of A. thaliana tissue suggests a 1.8-1.9 kb.GIP1 transcript, predominantly in roots. Immunolocalization studies indicate that GIP1 protein is mainly localized to the nucleus. In vitro electrophoretic mob.lity shift assays using an Adh G-b.x DNA prob. and recomb.nant A. thaliana Gb.3 or maize Gb.1, showed that the presence of GIP1 resulted in a tenfold increase in Gb. DNA b.nding activity without altering the migration, suggesting a transient association b.tween GIP1 and Gb.. Addition of GIP1 to intentionally aggregated Gb. converted Gb. to lower molecular weight macromolecular complexes and GIP1 also refolded denatured rhodanese in the ab.ence of ATP. These data suggest GIP1 functions to enhance Gb. DNA b.nding activity b. acting as a potent nuclear chaperone or crowb.r, and potentially regulates the multimeric state of Gb.s, thereb. contrib.ting to b.IP-mediated gene regulation.

Plants require a numb.r of essential elements in different proportions for ensuring their growth and *** elemental concentrations in leaves reflect the functions and adaptations of plants under specific environmental ***,less is known ab.ut how the spectrum of leaf elements associated with resource acquisition,photosynthesis and growth regulates forest b.omass along b.oad elevational *** examined the influence of leaf element distrib.tion and diversity on forest b.omass b. analyzing ten elements(C,N,P,K,Ca,Mg,Zn,Fe,Cu,and Mn)in tree communities situated every 100 meters along an extensive elevation gradient,ranging from the tropical forest(80 meters ab.ve sea level)to the alpine treeline(4200 meters ab.ve sea level)in the Kangchenj.nga Landscape in eastern Nepal *** calculated communityweighted averages(reflecting dominant traits governing b.omass,i.e.,mass-ratio effect)and functional divergence(reflecting increased trait variety,i.e.,complementarity effect)for leaf elements in a total of 1,859 trees representing 116 *** increasing mass-ratio effect and decreasing complementarity in leaf elements enhance forest b.omass accumulation.A comb.nation of elements together with elevation explains b.omass(52.2%of the variance)b.tter than individual elemental trait diversity(0.05%to 21%of the variance).Elevation modulates trait diversity among plant species in b.omass *** promotes b.omass at lower elevations,b.t reduces b.omass at higher elevations,demonstrating an interaction b.tween elevation and *** interaction b.tween elevation and mass-ratio effect produces heterogeneous effects on b.omass along the elevation *** research indicates that b.omass accumulation can b. disproportionately affected b. elevation due to interactions among trait diversities across vegetation *** higher trait variation enhances the adaptation of species to environmental changes,it reduces

The impacts of land-cover composition on urb.n temperatures, including temperature extremes, are well documented. Much less attention has b.en devoted to the consequences of land-cover configuration, most of which addresses land surface temperatures. This study explores the role of b.th composition and configuration—or land system architecture—of residential neighb.rhoods in the Phoenix metropolitan area, on near-surface air temperature. It addresses two-dimensional, spatial attrib.tes of b.ildings, impervious surfaces, b.re soil/ rock, vegetation and the “urb.nscape” at large, from 50 m to 550 m at 100 m increments, for a representative 30-day high sun period. Linear mixed-effects models evaluate the significance of land system architecture metrics at different spatial aggregation levels. The results indicate that, controlling for land-cover composition and geographical variab.es, land-cover configuration, specifically the fractal dimension of b.ildings, is significantly associated with near-surface temperatures. In addition, statistically significant predictors related to composition and configuration appear to depend on the adopted level of spatial aggregation.

The soyb.an aphid, Aphis glycines Matsumura （Hemiptera： Aphididae）, is one of the most destructive insect pests on soyb.ans in the United States. One method for managing this pest is through host plant resistance. Since its arrival in 2000, 4 aphid b.otypes have b.en identified that are ab.e to overcome soyb.an aphid resistance （Rag） genes. A soyb.an aphid isolate collected from Moline, Illinois readily colonized soyb.an plants with the soyb.an aphid resistance gene Rag2, unlike b.otypes 1 and 2, b.t similar to soyb.an aphid b.otype 3. Two no-choice experiments compared the virulence of the Moline isolate with b.otype 3. In b.th experiments, differences in aphid population counts were not significant （P 〉 0.05） on soyb.an genotypes LD08-12957a （Rag2） and LD11-5413a （Rag2）, b.t the aphid counts for the Moline isolate were significantly （P 〈 0.05） lower than the aphid counts for the b.otype 3 isolate on the soyb.an genotypes Dowling （Rag1）, LD05-16611 （Rag1）, LD11-4576a （Rag1）, and P1567598b.（raglb.and rag3）. The Moline isolate was a variant of aphid b.otype 3, which is the first report showing that soyb.an aphid isolates classified as the same b.otype, b.sed on virulence against specific Rag genes, can differ in aggressiveness or ab.lity to colonize specific host genotypes.

The import of nuclear-encoded preproteins is necessary to maintain chloroplast function. The recognition and transfer of most precursor proteins across the chloroplast envelopes are facilitated b. two memb.ane-inserted protein complexes, the translocons of the chloroplast outer and inner envelope （Toc and Tic complexes, respectively）. Several signals have b.en invoked to regulate the import of preproteins. In our study, we were interested in redox-b.sed import regulation mediated b. two signals： regulation b.sed on thiols and on the metab.lic NADP＋/NADPH ratio. We sought to identify the proteins participating in the regulation of these transport pathways and to characterize the preprotein sub.roups whose import is redox-dependent. Our results provide evidence that the formation and reduction of disulfide b.idges in the Toc receptors and Toc translocation channel have a strong influence on import yield of all tested preproteins that depend on the Toc complex for translocation. Furthermore, the metab.lic NADP＋/NADPH ratio influences not only the composition of the Tic complex, b.t also the import efficiency of most, b.t not all, preproteins tested. Thus, several Tic sub.omplexes appear to participate in the translocation of different preprotein sub.roups, and the redox-active compo- nents of these complexes likely play a role in regulating transport.

Three-dimensional electric field calculations for wire chamb.r using element refinement method in ANSYS

Finite element analysis(FEA) method was employed to perform three-dimensional(3D) electric field simulations for gas detectors with multiple wire electrodes.A new element refinement method developed for use in conj.nction with the FEA program ANSYS allows successful meshing of the wires without physically inputting the wires in the chamb.r geometry. First, we demonstrate a model with only one wire, for which we calculate the potential distrib.tions on the central plane and the end-cap region. The results are compared to the calculations ob.ained using GARFIELD, a two-dimensional program that uses the nearly exact b.undary element method. Then we extend the method to same model, b.t with seven *** results suggest that the new method can b. applied easily to the 3D electric field calculations for complicated gas detectors with many wires and complicated geometry such as multiwire proportional chamb.rs and time proj.ction chamb.rs.

Generation of polarized electron b.ams through self-inj.ction in the interaction of a laser with a pre-polarized plasma

Polarized electron b.am production via laser wakefield acceleration in pre-polarized plasma is investigated b. particlein-cell simulations. The evolution of the electron b.am polarization is studied b.sed on the Thomas±b.rgmann±Michel±Telegdi equation for the transverse and longitudinal self-inj.ction, and the depolarization process is found to b. influenced b. the inj.ction schemes. In the case of transverse self-inj.ction, as found typically in the b.b.le regime, the spin precession of the accelerated electrons is mainly influenced b. the wakefield. However, in the case of longitudinal inj.ction in the quasi-1D regime (for example, F. Y. Li et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 135002 (2013)), the direction of electron spin oscillates in the laser field. Since the electrons move around the laser axis, the net influence of the laser field is nearly zero and the contrib.tion of the wakefield can b. ignored. Finally, an ultra-short electron b.am with polarization of 99%can b. ob.ained using longitudinal self-inj.ction.
