Pack.Aluminide Coatings Formed at 650℃ for Enhancing Oxidation Resistance of Low Alloy steels

This study aims to investigate the feasibility of forming iron aluminide coatings on a commercial 9Cr-lMo (wt.%) alloy steel by pack.cementation at 650 °C in an attempt to improve its high temperature oxidation resistance. Pack.powders containing Al, A12O3 and a series of halide salts were used to carry out the coating deposition experiments, which enabled identification of the most suitable activator for the pack.aluminising process at the intended temperature. The effect of pack.aluminium content on the growth k.netics and microstructure of the coatings was then studied by k.eping deposition conditions and pack.activator content constant while increasing the pack.aluminium content from 1.4 wt.% to 6 wt.%. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (sEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDs) techniques were used to analyse the phases and microstructures of the coatings formed and to determine depth profiles of coating elements in the coating layer. Oxidation resistance of the coating was studied at 650 °C in air by intermittent weight measurement at room temperature. It was observed that the coating could substantially enhance the oxidation resistance of the steel under these testing conditions, which was attributed to the capability of the iron aluminide phases to form alumina scale on the coating surface through preferential Al oxidation.

A long-pulse plasma dis.harge for more than 30 min. was achieved on the Large Helical Device （LHD）. A plasma of ne = 0.8 × 10^19 m^-3 and T10 = 2.0 k.V was sustained with PICH = 0.52 MW, PECH = 0.1 MW and averaged PNBI = 0.067 MW. Total inj.cted heating energy was 1.3 G j. which was a quarter of the prepared RF heating energy. One of the k.ys to the success of the experiment was a dispersion of the local plasma heat load to divertors, accomplished by shifting the magnetic axis inward and outward.

The effect of Morinda tinctoria(MT) leaves extract on the corrosion inhibition of Al in acid medium was studied. The inhibition studies were carried out on Al in 0.5 mol/L HCl with the extract of leaves of MT using mass loss and electrochemical techniques. Parameters, such as concentration of the inhibitor, concentration of the acid, temperature and concentration of halide ions, were varied and optimized. Increase of the temperature and concentration of acid can decrease the performance of the inhibitor. Thermodynamic parameters show that the physisorption of the inhibitor molecules on Al surface obeys Langmuir isotherm.

shaping crystalline porous materials such as metal organic framework. （MOFs） and zeolites into two-dimensional （2D） nanosheet forms is highly desirable for developing high-performance molecular sieving membranes. However, conventional exfoliation-deposition is complex and challenging for the large-scale fabrication of nanosheet MOF tubular membranes. Here, for the first time, we report a direct growth technique by ZnO self-conversion and ammonia assistance to fabricate zeolitic imidazolate framework.（ZIF） membranes consisting of 2D nanosheets on porous hollow fiber substrates; the membranes are suitable for large-scale industrial gas separation processes. The proposed fabrication process for ZIF nanosheet membranes is based on the localized self-conversion of a pre-deposited thin layer of ZnO in a ligand solution containing ammonium hydroxide as a modulator. The resulting ZIF 2D nanosheet tubular membrane is highly oriented and only 50 nm in thick.ess. It exhibits excellent molecular sieving performance, with high H2 permeance and selectivity for H2/CO2 separation. This technique shows great promise in MOF nanosheet membrane fabrication for large-scale molecular sieving applications.

Zoonotic transmissions of emerging pathogens from wildlife to human have shaped the history of mank.nd. These events.have also highlighted our poor understanding of microorganisms circulated in wild animals. Coronaviruses and astroviruses,which can be found from a wide range of mammals,were recently detected in bats. strik.ngly,these bat viruses are genetically highly diverse and these interesting findings might help to better understand the evolution and ecology of these viruses. The discoveries of these novel bats viruses not only suggested that bats are important hosts for these virus families,but also reiterated the role of bats as a reservoir of viruses that might pose a zoonotic threat to human health.

Aldose reductase (AR), a cytosolic, monomeric oxidoreductase, is a k.y enzyme in the polyol pathway which controls the conversion of glucose to sorbitol. The accumulation of sorbitol by the activation of AR enzymes in lens, retina, and sciatic nerves leads to the cause of diabetic defects resulting in various secondary complications, viz. retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy and Alzheimer's disease. Thus, reduction of the polyol pathway flux by AR inhibitors could be a potential therapeutic opening in the treatment and prevention of diabetic complications. At present, the AR inhibitors belong to two different chemical classes. One is the hydantoin derivatives, such as sorbinil, Dilantin, and Minalrestat, and the other is the carboxylic acid derivatives, such as Epalrestat, Alrestatin, and Tolrestat. However, it is k.own that most of these synthethic compounds.have unacceptable side-effects. Well k.own medicinal plants lik. Chrysanthemum indicum, Chrysanthemum morifolium, Prunus mume, Myrcia multiflora, Centella asiatica, and salacia reticulata, salacia oblonga, and salacia chinensis exhibited potent AR inhibitory activity. The present review summarizes the list of plant material, and their isolated phytoconstituents which have been tested for their AR inhibitory activity. This litreature review covers the period to 2011, and a total of 72 plants are listed.

We recently reported an unconventional mechanism by which miRNAs inhibit HIV-1 viral production. This occurs when miRNAs bind nonspecifically to the viral structural protein Gag, interfering with viral RNA-medi- ated Gag assembly at the plasma membrane. Conse- quently, misassembled viral complexes are redirected into the endocytic pathway where they are delivered to lysosomes for degradation. In this study, we demon- strate that autophagy is a critical mediator of the viral degradation pathway and that this pathway is not HIV-1 specific. Misassembled viral complexes were found to colocalize extensively with LC3 and p62 in late endo- somesllysosomes, demonstrating a convergence of autophagy with functional degradative compartments. k.ock.ng down autophagosome formation machineries reduced this convergence, while treatment with autop- hagy-inducer rapamycin enhanced the convergence. Furthermore, similar autophagy-dependent nonspecific miRNA inhibition of murine leuk.mia virus （MLV） assembly was shown. Overall, these results reveal autophagy as a crucial regulator of the retroviral degradation pathway in host cells initiated by non- specific miRNA-Gag interactions. These findings could have significant implications for understanding how cells may regulate retroviral complex assembly by miRNA expression and autophagy, and raise the possi- bility that similar regulations can occur in other biolog- ical contexts.

A new nondestructive method to estimate the volume fraction and homogeneity of tristructural isotropic(TRIsO)-coated fuel particles in fuel compacts designed for high-temperature reactors.has been developed using image analysis of conventional X-radiographs. The method is demonstrated on surrogate fuel compacts containing TRIsO-coated particles with k.rnels made of zirconium dioxide. The methodology incorporates a correction for superimposed images of TRIsO particles such that a single X-ray image obtained in any one random orientation is sufficient to characterize the fuel compact in terms of volume fraction and homogeneity. The method is based on the virtual segregation of images of each particle inside the compact with the aid of a calibration standard.
