A search for the doubly charmed baryon ?cc+with the decay mode ?cc+→Ξc+K-π+is performed using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1. No significant signal is observed within the invariant mass range of 3.6 to 4.0 GeV/c2. Upper limits are set on the ratio R of the production cross-section times the total branching fraction of the ?cc+→Ξc+K-π+decay with respect to the Ξcc++→Λc+K-π+π+decay. Upper limits at 95% credibility level for R in the range 0.005 to 0.11 are obtained for diferent hypotheses on the ?cc+mass and lifetime in the rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and transverse momentum range from 4 to 15 GeV/c.

Stochastic optimization of mine production scheduling with uncertain ore/metal/waste supply

Optimization of long-term mine production scheduling in open pit mines deals with the management of cash flows, typically in the order of hundreds of millions of dollars. Conventional mine scheduling utilizes optimization methods that are not capable of accounting for inherent technical uncertainties such as uncertainty in the expected ore/metal supply from the underground, acknowledged to be the most critical factor. To integrate ore/metal uncertainty into the optimization of mine production scheduling a stochastic integer programming(SIP) formulation is tested at a copper deposit. The stochastic solution maximizes the economic value of a proj.ct and minimizes deviations from production targets in the presence of ore/metal uncertainty. Unlike the conventional approach, the SIP model accounts and manages risk in ore supply, leading to a mine production schedule with a 29% higher net present value than the schedule obtained from the conventional, industry-standard optimization approach, thus contributing to improving the management and sustainable utilization of mineral resources.

Performance of aerogel as a thermal insulation material towards a sustainable design of residential buildings for tropical climates in Nigeria

The building sector accounts for nearly 40%of global energy *** Nigeria,more than two-thirds of the consumption comes from residential *** efficiency measures through the adoption of insulation materials are tools that could crash the peak demand of energy in buildings while improving its thermal comfort and aerogel is considered as the most effective material for insulation,owing to its unique thermal *** this paper,we present the performance of aerogel as a thermal insulation material towards a sustainable design of residential buildings for tropical climates in ***,a typical residential building in the tropical region was modeled with conventional materials utilized in the region and was later modified through the application of aerogel material on various surfaces of the model.A whole building energy simulation was then carried out in each variation and the outcome was compared to effectively conclude on the significance of aerogel in terms of thermal comfort improvement and energy consumption *** show that aerogel had the highest influence when inserted in the attic and floor slabs of the designed model.A reduction of more than 6%was attained in the recorded indoor mean air and operative temperatures while still maintaining an acceptable humidity *** energy consumption,a reduction of more than 15%was ***,the high price of aerogel may hinder its application on the studied building but could be a good investment where climate change and sustainability are of high importance and less concern is given to *** demonstrated significant potential with respect to both thermal comfort improvement and energy consumption reduction on the designed *** outcome of the study is hoped to serve as a base reference for the insulation of residential buildings with similar climate and characteristics to the adopted case building.

Analysis of a Plasmonic Based Optical Fiber Optrode With Phase Interrogation

Optical fiber optrodes are attractive sensing devices due to their ability to perform point measurement in remote locations. Mostly, they are oriented to biochemical sensing, quite often supported by fluorescent and spectroscopic techniques, but with the refractometric approach considered as well when the obj.ctive is of high measurement performance, particularly when the focus is on enhancing the measurand resolution. In this work, we address this subj.ct, proposing and analyzing the characteristics of a fiber optic optrode relying on plasmonic interaction. A linearly tapered optical fiber tip is covered by a double overlay： the inner one - a silver thin film and over it - a dielectric layer, with this combination allowing to achieve, at a specific wavelength range, surface plasmonic resonance （SPR） interaction sensitive Typically, the interrogation of the SPR sensing to the refractive index of the surrounding medium. structures is performed, considering spectroscopic techniques, but in principle, a far better performance can be obtained, considering the reading of the phase of the light at a specific wavelength located within the spectral plasmonic resonance. This is the approach which is studied here in the context of the proposed optical fiber optrode configuration. The analysis performed shows the combination of a silver inner layer with a dielectric titanium oxide layer with tuned thicknesses enables sensitive phase reading and allows the operation of the fiber optic optrode sensor in the third telecommunication wavelength window.

The economy of a country can be modeled as a complex system in which several players buy and sell goods from each *** analyzing the investment flows,it is possible to reconstruct the supply chain for the production of most goods,whose understanding is important to analysts and public officials interested in creating and evaluating strategies for informed and strategic decision making,for instance,adj.sting tax *** networks of players and investments,however,tend to be complex and very dense,which leads to over-plotted visualizations that obfuscate precious information such as the dependencies between productive sectors and *** this paper,we propose Hermes,a guidanceenriched Visual Analytics environment(named after the Greek God of Commerce)for the exploration of complex economic networks,to uncover supply chains,regions’productivity,and sector-to-sector *** practical knowledge regarding guidance,we designed and implemented a visual sub-graph querying approach to extract patterns from such complex investment graphs obtained from real-world *** present a three-fold evaluation of the system:we perform a qualitative evaluation of our approach with three domain experts,a separate assessment of the proposed guidance features with an expert researcher in this field,and a case study of Hermes using a bank account network dataset to demonstrate the generalizability of our approach.

Use of nisin and bioprotective lactic cultures to extend the shelf life of sheep and goat cheese whey

We evaluated the feasibility of using nisin(12.5 mg/L)and the inoculation of Lactobacillus helveticus(LH 091-C28527),Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus(LRB-0283705A)and Lacticaseibacillus casei(BGP1-304799A)commercial cultures as bioprotectors in sheep(SCW)and goat(GCW)cheese *** results showed that nisin inhibited *** and the native population and reduced *** counts(∼4.5 log CFU/mL).*** grew during storage in the presence/absence of nisin,reaching counts for probiotic appeal,whereas *** was partially *** fermented SCW in 23–46h and GCW in 60h and was inhibited by ***,fermented samples had lower counts of lactic acid bacteria after storage(≤3.6 log CFU/mL),showing inhibition by ***,among the studied alternatives,the addition of nisin and/or *** is the best option to prolong the shelf life of SCW and GCW by up to 28 *** results are useful for artisanal production and can be directly applied for whey preservation.

A voltammetric sensor based on the electropolymerization of cobalt-poly(methionine)(Co-poly(Met)) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was developed and applied for the determination of estriol by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) for the first time. The electrochemical properties of the Co-poly(Met)/GCE were analysed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to characterize the polymers on the GCE surface. The deposition of the Co-poly(Met) film on the GCE surface enhanced the sensor electronic transfer. CV studies revealed that estriol exhibits an irreversible oxidation peak at t0.58 V for the Co-poly(Met)/GCE (vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode) in 0.10 mol/L Britton-Robinson buffer solution (pH=7.0). Different voltammetric scan rates (10-200 mV/s) suggested that the estriol oxidation on the Co-poly(Met)/GCE surface is controlled by adsorption and diffusion processes. Based on the optimized DPV conditions, the linear responses for estriol quantification were from 0.596 μmol/L to 4.76 μmol/L (R2 =0.996) and from 5.66 μmol/L to 9.90 μmol/L (R2 =0.994) with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0340 μmol/L and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.113 μmol/L. The DPV-Co-poly(Met)/GCE method provided good intra-day and inter-day repeatability with RSD values lower than 5%. Also, no interference of real sample matrices was observed on the estriol voltammetric response, making the DPV-Copoly( Met)/GCE highly selective for estriol. The accuracy test showed that the estriol recovery was in the ranges 96.7%-103% and 98.7%-102% for pharmaceutical tablets and human urine, respectively. The estriol quantification in pharmaceutical tablets performed by the Co-poly(Met)/GCE-assisted DPV method was comparable to the official analytical protocols.

The detection of anomalous events in huge amounts of data is sought in many *** instance,in the context of financial data,the detection of suspicious events is a prerequisite to identify and prevent attempts to ***,various financial fraud detection approaches have started to exploit Visual Analytics ***,there is no study available giving a systematic outline of the different approaches in this field to understand common strategies but also ***,we present a survey of existing approaches of visual fraud detection in order to classify different tasks and solutions,to identify and to propose further research *** this work,fraud detection solutions are explored through five main domains:banks,the stock market,telecommunication companies,insurance companies,and internal *** selected domains explored in this survey were chosen for sharing similar time-oriented and multivariate data *** this survey,we(1)analyze the current state of the art in this field;(2)define a categorization scheme covering different application domains,visualization methods,interaction techniques,and analytical methods which are used in the context of fraud detection;(3)describe and discuss each approach according to the proposed scheme;and(4)identify challenges and future research topics.
