Reliable modeling of river sediments transport is important as it is a defining factor of the economic viability of dams, the durability of hydroelectric-equipment, river susceptibility to pollution, suitability for navigation, and potential for aesthetics and fish habitat. The capability of a new machine learning model, fuzzy c-means based neuro-fuzzy system calibrated using the hybrid particle swarm optimization-gravitational search algorithm(ANFIS-FCM-PSOGSA) in improving the estimation accuracy of river suspended sediment loads(SSLs) is investigated in the current study. The outcomes of the proposed method were compared with those obtained using the fuzzy c-means based neuro-fuzzy system calibrated using particle swarm optimization(ANFIS-FCM-PSO), ANFIS-FCM, and sediment rating curve(SRC) models. Various input combinations involving lagged river flow(Q) and suspended sediment(S) values were used for model development. The effect of Q and S on the model’s accuracy also was assessed by including the difference between lagged Q and S values as inputs. The model performance was assessed using the root mean square error(RMSE), mean absolute error(MAE), Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency(NSE), and coefficient of determination(R~2) and several graphical comparison methods. The results showed that the proposed model enhanced the prediction performance of the ANFIS-FCM-PSO(or ANFIS-FCM) models by 8.14%(1.72%), 14.7%(5.71%), 12.5%(2.27%), and 25.6%(1.86%),in terms of the RMSE, MAE, NSE and R~2, respectively. The current study established the potential of the proposed ANFIS-FCM-PSOGSA model for simulation of the cumulative sediment load. The modeling results revealed the potential effects of the river flow lags on the sediment transport quantification.

Spinal cord injuries have profound detrimental effects on individuals, regardless of whether they are caused by trauma or non-traumatic events. The compromised regeneration of the spinal cord is primarily attributed to damaged neurons, inhibitory molecules, dysfunctional immune response, and glial scarring. Unfortunately, currently, there are no effective treatments available that can fully repair the spinal cord and improve functional outcomes. Nevertheless, numerous pre-clinical approaches have been studied for spinal cord injury recovery, including using biomaterials, cells, drugs, or technological-based strategies. Combinatorial treatments, which target various aspects of spinal cord injury pathophysiology, have been extensively tested in the last decade. These approaches aim to synergistically enhance repair processes by addressing various obstacles faced during spinal cord regeneration. Thus, this review intends to provide scientists and clinicians with an overview of pre-clinical combinatorial approaches that have been developed toward the solution of spinal cord regeneration as well as update the current knowledge about spinal cord injury pathophysiology with an emphasis on the current clinical management.

Coping with water scarcity in Kashafroud G-WADI Basin, Iran: climate change or growing demands?

This paper assesses the various factors contributing to climate change in the region of the Kashaffoud G-WADI Basin in Iron; quanti- fies the local impacts of climate change, especially local water scarcity; and simulates and discusses several proposed methods to combat these impacts. Hydrologic and climatic data are statistically analyzed and VENSIM modeling is used for various simulations of water resources in the basin. Results show that the natural climate changes affecting Kashafroud Basin include increased tempera- ture, less rainfall, more frequent droughts, and changes in rainfall patterns, all of which are local symptoms of climate change in recent years. However, the most important challenge in the basin is the overexploitation of surface and groundwater resources to meet the growing water demands, especially domestic needs. Changes in land use, reallocation of water uses, groundwater depletion, and deg- radation of the quality of surface waters have all contributed to significant changes in the environmental features of this basin, and are the main reason why water demands now exceed the renewal capacity of the basin. Proposed response measures include reallocation of resources among different uses, inter-basin water ~ansfers, drawing water from six small dams on the Kashafroud River, reducing groundwater extraction, and replacing groundwater extraction for agriculture by reuse of urban wastewater. This study concludes that although changes in global climatic pararneters have altered environmental features in the basin, local factors, such as water utilization beyond the renewable capacity of the basin, are more significant in worsening the impacts of climate change.

AIM: To evaluate the high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs CRP), Fetuin-A and matrix γ-carboxyglutamate protein(MGP) as the main factors for vascular calcification and inflammation in serum of patients with advanced age-related macular degeneration(ARMD) in comparison to healthy controls. METHODS: The subjects were 40 patients with choroidal neovascularization(CNV) having a mean age of70.9 ±9.1y and a matched group of 49 apparently healthy control subjects. The ARMD was diagnosed using a slitlamp with superfield lens, fundus photography and fluorescein angiography. Measurement of hs CRP was done by nephelometry method. Levels of Fetuin-A and MGP were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) ***: hs CRP [0.45(0.07-2.63) mg/L vs 0.25(0.03-1.2) mg/L, P =0.02)] and Fetuin-A levels(50.27 ±5.04 vs44.99±10.28 ng/m L, P =0.009) were higher in the patients than in the control groups. We could not find significant difference in MGP level between two groups(P =0.08).There was not a significant correlation between MGP with Fetuin-A and hs CRP among the patients(P =0.7, P =0.9respectively). A significant negative correlation of hs CRP with Fetuin-A was observed in both case and control groups(P =0.004, r =-0.33 and P =0.001, r =-0.54,respectively).CONCLUSION: Although our study shows that serum hs CRP and Fetuin-A is increased in CNV patients as well as negatively correlated with both study groups, their direct role on pathogenesis of ARMD required future studies.

Enhanced Sensitivity and Stability in Gelatin-Based Fricke gel Dosimeters:Impact of Benzoic Acid on Low-Dose Radiation Measurements

Fricke gel dosimetry is a critical technique for accurate radiation dose measurement, leveraging the radiation-induced oxidation of ferrous to ferric ions within a hydrogel matrix. This study aimed to advance the field by preparing and evaluating seventy-one Fricke gel dosimeter(FGD) samples with varying chemical compositions, focusing on the incorporation of benzoic acid. Two gelatin-based samples demonstrated superior sensitivity, particularly for low-dose measurements. Our findings indicated that the sample without benzoic acid exhibited a 1.75 times higher sensitivity compared to the sample containing benzoic acid, with lower limits of detection at 0.04 Gy and 0.1 Gy, respectively. Stability tests revealed temperature-dependent responses, with better performance observed under refrigerated conditions. Reproducibility was confirmed through consistent calibration curves across multiple trials. Additionally, the dosimeters' responses varied with different radiation types, underscoring the need for specific calibrations. The study concludes that while benzoic acid slightly reduces sensitivity, it provides consistent responses across various radiation energies, suggesting its potential as a beneficial additive in diverse clinical scenarios. This research contributes to the ongoing optimization of FGDs for precise radiation dose assessment.

Introduction:Alzheimer 's disease(AD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder and the primary cause of dementia. Considerable evidence supports the “amyloid hypothesis,” stating that the pathogenesis of AD is primarily caused by the deposition of amyloid-β(Aβ), which drives tau phosphorylation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. The amyloid hypothesis is strengthened by the significant and moderate benefit of lecanemab, a humanized antibody through an anti-amyloid mechanism,showing slowed clinical decline(van Dyck et al.,2023). The recent positive results of anti-amyloid trials have brought back focus on the amyloid hypothesis through biochemical, genetic, and pharmacological approaches(Zhang, 2023).

The N-terminal EF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NECAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the presence of at least one EF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized C-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NECAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NECAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NECAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the capacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NECAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NECAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NECAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NECAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NECAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influence protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NECAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the EF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. Crosstalk is the main degrading factor in Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) systems which are the result of electromagnetic coupling between two adjacent twisted pairs in a cable. Very-high bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) systems which use higher frequencies for data transmission than the other DSL systems, this effect is more considerable in Bit Error Rate (BER) degradation. This paper considers a complete adaptive iterative water-filling (IWF) algorithm for Resolving Upstream Near-Far Problem in VDSL Systems. The new distributed dynamic spectrum management algorithm is proposed, which improve achievable bit rate of iterative water-filling algorithm. The paper proffers a new power back-off strategy of the spectral mask at the near-end users, in order to protect the far-end users. Simulation of the proposed algorithm indicates that the bit rate is increased considerably rather the IWF and adaptive water-filling (AIWF) algorithms by keeping their low complexity. Furthermore, by adding the number of users in network, the new algorithm achieves performance gains over the AIWF, completely adaptive.

In this work,fullerene was modified by platinum,ruthenium,tin and tungsten *** material was characterized by XRD,ICP-OES and TEM *** average nanoparticle size on fullerene was 5-8 *** application of this material was investigated as a catalyst for methanol oxidation in direct methanol fuel cell.A glassy carbon electrode was modified by Pt/Ru/Sn/W fullerene and electrocatalytic activity of the electrode toward methanol oxidation in basic medium has been demonstrated and investigated using cyclic *** catalyst showed good reactivity for methanol oxidation.
