华北中部造山带西望山地区基性麻粒岩的变质演化过程研究有助于揭示华北中部带前寒武纪变质基底的形成与演化历史。基于对宣化西望山地区基性麻粒岩的详细岩相学观察与矿物化学分析,识别出3期变质演化阶段:早期进变质阶段(M1)矿物组合为石榴石+单斜辉石+斜长石+金红石+石英;峰期变质阶段(M2)矿物组合为石榴石+单斜辉石+斜长石+角闪石+钛铁矿+熔体;晚期降压阶段(M3)矿物组合为石榴石+单斜辉石+角闪石+斜长石+钛铁矿+磁铁矿。对基性麻粒岩的相平衡模拟研究表明,峰期变质阶段(M2)的温压条件为940~1000℃,12.4~14 kbar;峰期后降压阶段的温压条件为660~760℃,5~6.2 kbar;构成一条降压冷却的顺时针P-T轨迹。本次研究表明西望山基性麻粒岩经历了高压-超高温变质作用。

Restricted nutrient intake does not alter serum-mediated measures of implant response in cell culture

Background： During nutritional stress, reduced intake may reduce the efficacy of anabolic implants. This study was conducted to evaluate basic cellular responses to a growth promotant implant at two intake levels. Methods： Sixteen crossbred steers （293 ± 19.3 kg） were used to evaluate the impact of anabolic implants in either an adequate or a restricted nutritional state. Steers were trained to individual Calan gates, and then randomly assigned to 1 of 4 treatments in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. Treatments consisted off presence or absence of an anabolic growth implant （Revalor-XS, 200 mg TBA and 40 mg estradiol; IMPLANT or CONTROL） and a moderate energy, pelleted, starting cattle diet fed at either 2.0 × or 1.0 × maintenance energy （NEM） requirements （HIGH or LOW）. Serum （d O, 14, and 28） was used for application to bovine muscle satellite cells. After treatment with the serum （20% of total media） from the trial cattle, the satellite cells were incubated for 72 h. Protein abundance of myosin heavy chain （MHC）, phosphorylated extracellular signal-related kinase （phospho-ERK）, and phosphorylated mammalian target of rapamycin （phospho-mTOR） were analyzed to determine the effects of implant, intake, and their interaction （applied via the serum）. Results： Intake had no effect on MHC （P = 0.85） but IMPLANT increased （P 〈 0.01） MHC abundance vs. CONTROL. Implant status, intake status, and the interaction had no effect on the abundance of phospho-ERK （P〉0.23）. Implanting increased phospho-mTOR （P 〈 0.01） but there was no effect （P 〉 0.51） of intake or intake x implant. Conclusions： The nearly complete lack of interaction between implant and nutritional status indicates that the signaling molecules measured herein respond to implants and nutritional status independently. Furthermore, results suggest that the muscle hypertrophic effects of anabolic implants may not be mediated by circulating IGF-1.

Influence of vascular endothelial growth factor and radiation on gap junctional intercellular communication in glioblastoma multiforme cell lines

Glioblastoma multiforme （GBM） is a highly aggressive glial brain tumor with an unfavorable prognosis despite all current therapies including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. One characteristic of this tumor is a strong synthesis of vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF）, an angiogenesis factor, followed by pronounced vascularization. VEGF became a target in the treatment of GBM, for example with bevacizumab or the tyrosine kinase inhibitor axitinib, which blocks VEGF receptors. To improve patients＇ prognosis, new targets in the treatment of GBM are under investigations. The role of gap junctions in GBM remains un- known, but some experimental therapies affect these intercellular channels to treat the tumor. Gap junctions are composed of connexins to allow the transport of small molecules between adjacent cells through gap junc- tional intercellular communication （GjIC）. Based on data derived from astrocytes in former studies, which show that VEGF is able to enhance GjIC, the current study analyzed the effects of VEGF, radiation therapy and VEGF receptor blockade by axitinib on GjIC in human GBM cell lines U-87 and U-251. While VEGF is able to induce GjIC in U-251 cells but not in U-87 cells, radiation enhances GjIC in both cell lines. VEGF reocptor blockade by axitinib diminishes radiation induced effects in U-251 partially, while increases GjIC in U-87 cells. Our data indicate that VEGF and radiation are both modifying components of Gj1C in pathologic brain tumor tissue.

A Cambrian micro-lobopodian and the evolution of arthropod locomotion and reproduction

The evolutionary success of arthropods, the most abundant and diverse animal group, is mainly based on their segmented body and jointed appendages, features that had evolved most likely already before the Cambrian. The first arthropod-like animals, the lobopodians from the Early Cambrian, were unsclerotized and worm-like, and they had unjointed tubular legs. Here we describe the first three-dimensionally preserved Cambrian lobopodian. The material presented of Orstenotubulus evamuellerae gen. et sp. nov. is the smallest and youngest of a lobopodian known. O. evamuellerae shows strikingly detailed similarities to Recent tardigrades and/or onychophorans in its cellular-structured cuticle and the telescopic spines. It also shows similarities to other, longer known lobopodians, but which are ten times as large as the new form. These similarities include the finely annulated body and legs, which is characteristic also for Recent onychophorans, and paired humps continuing into spines situated dorsally to the leg insertions, a feature lacking in the extant forms. The morphology of O. evamuellerae not only elucidates our knowledge about lobopodians, but also aids in a clearer picture of the early evolution of arthropods. An example is the single ventral gonopore between a limb pair of O. evamuellerae, which indicates that a single gonopore, as developed in onychophorans, tardigrades, pentastomids, myriapods and insects, might represent the plesiomorphic state for Arthropoda, while the paired state in chelicerates and crustaceans was convergently achieved. Concerning life habits, the lateral orientation of the limbs and their anchoring spines of the new lobopodian imply that early arthropods were crawlers rather than walkers.
