Consequences of unilateral cryptorchidism on semen and sperm characteristics in West African Dwarf Goats

Objective: To evaluate the influence of unilateral cryptorchidism on semen and sperm characteristics in West African Dwarf (WAD) bucks. Methods: semen was collected using electroejaculator from five unilaterally cryptorchid (uC) and five normal (non-cryptorchid) WAD bucks and analyzed for gross, microscopic and biochemical characteristics. Results:Gross semen evaluation showed no differences between the groups in semen color, viscosity and pH, whereas the normal bucks yielded semen with significantly higher specific gravity (P=0.0436) and volume (P=0.0388) than the uC group. Following semen microscopic evaluation, the percentage of sperm vitality (live sperm) was not significantly different between both groups. However, uC bucks yielded semen with significantly lower sperm motility (P=0.0387), sperm concentration per mL (P=0.0020) and total sperm count per ejaculate (P=0.0074). The percentage total sperm abnormality was also higher (Psemen of uC goats. Abnormalities observed included sperm with cytoplasmic droplets, looped tails, coiled tails and tailless heads. sperm morphometry showed no differences in the sperm head length and head width between the groups. Biochemical semen evaluation did not reveal any differences between the groups in the concentration of seminal plasma total protein, catalase activity and lipid peroxidation level. Conclusions: unilateral cryptorchidism significantly affected the quantity and quality of semen and spermatozoa in affected WAD bucks. Due to the hereditary attribute of the condition, it is recommended that animals with this condition should not be used in breeding to forestall increasing prevalence of cryptorchidism in goats.

Correction of failure in antenna array using matrix pencil technique

In this paper a non-iterative technique is developed for the correction of faulty antenna array based on matrix pencil technique（MPT）. The failure of a sensor in antenna array can damage the radiation power pattern in terms of sidelobes level and nulls. In the developed technique, the radiation pattern of the array is sampled to form discrete power pattern information set. Then this information set can be arranged in the form of Hankel matrix（HM） and execute the singular value decomposition（sVD）. By removing nonprincipal values, we obtain an optimum lower rank estimation of HM. This lower rank matrix corresponds to the corrected pattern. Then the proposed technique is employed to recover the weight excitation and position allocations from the estimated matrix. Numerical simulations confirm the efficiency of the proposed technique, which is compared with the available techniques in terms of sidelobes level and nulls.

On the detection of closed orbits in time-dependent systems by using double-pulse lasers

In the photodetachment of atoms or negative ions by a double-pulse laser, the first pulse of the double-pulse laser generates waves and the delayed second pulse may detect them. The phenomenon of the excitation and detection of waves by a double-pulse laser can be used to identify the closed orbits in the system. We demonstrate this phenomenon with a negative hydrogen ion(H^-) by analyzing the total population excited by a double-pulse laser in a timedependent field for different physical parameters. By analyzing the total excited population using a double-pulse laser, we can uncover all the closed orbits existing in the system. We demonstrate that this can be realized by scanning the first pulse position and the time delay between the two pulses.

Influence of unilateral Cryptorchidism on Libido, Haematology and serum Reproductive Hormones, Total Protein, Lipid Profile and Oxidative stress in West African Dwarf Goats

The failure of testicular descent (cryptorchidism) is known to cause abnormal testicular development and function. unilateral cryptorchidism is prevalent in West African Dwarf (WAD) goats particularly in some areas where affected bucks are presumed to have better libido and reproductive efficiency by farmers. Androgens produced by the testes can influence libido and other hormonal and metabolic processes in the body. The study investigated the influence of natural unilateral cryptorchidism on serum reproductive hormones, total protein, lipid profile, oxidative stress, and haematology and libido in WAD bucks. Ten WAD bucks (aged 12 - 14 months) comprising 5 bucks with normal descended testes (N group) and 5 unilaterally-cryptorchid bucks (uC group) were studied. Blood and sera were collected and evaluated for haematology, serum total proteins and lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides and lipoproteins) concentrations, serum oxidative stress (catalase and lipid peroxidation activity), and serum levels of reproductive hormones (testosterone, FsH and LH). Libido testing of bucks was also performed by randomly isolating and confining each individual male with a doe on standing heat and recording the number of mountings made by the male within a period of 5 minutes as the libido score. The evaluated haematological indices and serum levels of proteins, lipids, oxidative stress indicators and reproductive hormones were not significantly different between the N and uC groups (p > 0.05). Although a higher mean libido score was recorded in N bucks compared to the uC group, this difference was not significant. Whereas no negative effects were observed in the evaluated physiologic indices in uC bucks, these findings do not support the presumption by farmers that uC bucks have better libido than bucks with fully descended testes. Therefore, these animals should not be selected for breeding to avoid increasing the prevalence of unilateral cryptorchidism due to its genetic attribute.

Lower back pain is one of the most common medical problems in the world and it is experienced by a huge percentage of people *** to its ability to produce a detailed view of the soft tissues,including the spinal cord,nerves,intervertebral discs,and vertebrae,Magnetic Resonance Imaging is thought to be the most effective method for imaging the *** semantic segmentation of vertebrae plays a major role in the diagnostic process of lumbar *** is difficult to semantically partition the vertebrae in Magnetic Resonance Images from the surrounding variety of tissues,including muscles,ligaments,and intervertebral discs.u-Net is a powerful deep-learning architecture to handle the challenges of medical image analysis tasks and achieves high segmentation *** work proposes a modified u-Net architecture namely Mu-Net,consisting of the Meijering convolutional layer that incorporates the Meijering filter to perform the semantic segmentation of lumbar vertebrae L1 to L5 and sacral vertebra ***-colour mask images were generated and used as ground truth for training the *** work has been carried out on 1312 images expanded from T1-weighted mid-sagittal MRI images of 515 patients in the Lumbar spine MRI Dataset publicly available from Mendeley *** proposed Mu-Net model for the semantic segmentation of the lumbar vertebrae gives better performance with 98.79%of pixel accuracy(PA),98.66%of dice similarity coefficient(DsC),97.36%of Jaccard coefficient,and 92.55%mean Intersection over union(mean Iou)metrics using the mentioned dataset.

This paper considers a nonsmooth semi-infinite minimax fractional programming problem（sIMFP） involving locally Lipschitz invex functions. The authors establish necessary optimality conditions for sIMFP. The authors establish the relationship between an optimal solution of sIMFP and saddle point of scalar Lagrange function for sIMFP. Further, the authors study saddle point criteria of a vector Lagrange function defined for sIMFP.

A revised Cattaneo-Christov micropolar viscoelastic nanofluid model with combined porosity and magnetic effects

The dynamics of non-Newtonian fluids along with nanoparticles is quite interesting with numerous industrial applications. The current predominately predictive modeling deals with the flow of the viscoelastic micropolar fluid in the presence of nanoparticles. A progressive amendment in the heat and concentration equations is made by exploiting the Cattaneo-Christov(C-C) heat and mass flux expressions. Besides, the thermal radiation effects are contributed in the energy equation and aspect of the radiation parameter, and the Prandtl number is specified by the one-parameter *** formulated expressions are converted to the dimensionless forms by relevant similarity functions. The analytical solutions to these expressions have been erected by the homotopy analysis method. The variations in physical quantities, including the velocity,the temperature, the effective local Nusselt number, the concentration of nanoparticles,and the local sherwood number, have been observed under the influence of emerging parameters. The results have shown good accuracy compared with those of the existing literature.

Hybrid Active Contour Mammographic Mass segmentation and Classification

This research implements a novel segmentation of mammographic *** methods are proposed,namely,segmentation of mass based on iterative active contour,automatic region growing,and fully automatic mask selectionbased active contour *** the first method,iterative threshold is performed for manual cropped preprocessed image,and active contour is applied *** overcome manual cropping in the second method,an automatic seed selection followed by region growing is *** that the result is only a few images owing to over segmentation,the third method uses a fully automatic active *** of the segmentation techniques are compared with the manual markup by experts,specifically by taking the difference in their mean ***,the difference in the mean value of the third method is 1.0853,which indicates the closeness of the ***,the proposed method is compared with the existing fuzzy C means and level set *** automatic mass segmentation based on active contour technique results in segmentation with high *** using adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system,classification is done and results in a sensitivity of 94.73%,accuracy of 93.93%,and Mathew’s correlation coefficient(MCC)of 0.876.
