An extensive analysis of iron-nitrogen-carbon(Fe-N-C)electrocatalysts synthesis and activity is presented concerning synthesis conditions such as initial Fe content,pyrolysis temperature and atmosphere(inert N_(2),reducing Nh_(3),oxidizing Cl_(2) and their sequential combinations)and the influence of an external magnetic field on their performance in oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).Thermosetting porous polymers doped with FeCl_(3) were utilized as the Fe-N-C catalysts *** pyrolysis temperature was varied within a 700-900℃*** temperature and atmosphere of pyrolysis strongly affect the porosity and compositi on of the resultant Fe-N-C catalysts,while the in itial amount of Fe precursor shows much weaker *** under Nh_(3) yields materials similar to those pyrolyzed under an inert atmosphere(N_(2)).In contrast,pyrolysis under Cl_(2) yields carbon of peculiar character with highly disordered structure and extensive *** application of a static external magnetic field strongly enhances the ORR process(herein studied in an alkaline environment)and the enhancement correlates with the Fe content in the Fe-N-C *** Fe-N-C materials containing ferromagnetic iron phase embedded in N-doped microporous carbon constitute attractive catalysts for magnetic field-aided anion exchange membrane fuel cell technology.

AIM： To evaluate the effect of single nucleotide poly- morphisms of interleukin （IL）-28B, rs12979860 on progression and treatment response in chronic hepatitis C. METhODS： Patients （n = 64; 37 men, 27 women; mean age, 44 ＋ 12 years） with chronic hepatitis C, genotype 1, received treatment with peg-interferon plus ribavirin. Genotyping of rs12979860 was per- formed on peripheral blood DNA. histopathological assessment of necroinflammatory grade and fibrosis stage were scored using the METAVIR system on a liver biopsy sample before treatment. Serum viral load, ami- notransferase activity, and insulin level were measured. Insulin resistance index, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, percentage of body fat and fibrosis progression rate were calculated. Applied dose of interferon and ribavirin, platelet and neutrophil count and hemoglobin level were measured. RESULTS： A sustained virological response （SVR） was significantly associated with IL28B polymorphism （CC vs -l-r allele： odds ratio （OR）, 25; CC vs CT allele： OR, 5.4）, inflammation activity （G 〈 1 vs G 〉 1： OR, 3.9）, fibrosis （F 〈 1 vs F 〉 1： OR, 5.9）, platelet count （〉 200 × 109/L vs 〈 200 ×109/L： OR, 4.7; OR in patients with genotype CT： 12.8）, fatty liver （absence vs presence of steatosis： OR, 4.8）, insulin resistance index （〈 2.5 vs 〉 2.5： OR, 3.9）, and baseline hCV viral load （〈 106 IU/mL vs 〉 106 IU/mL： OR, 3.0）. There was no association with age, sex, aminotransferases activity, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, or percentage body fat. There was borderline significance （P = 0.064） of increased fibrosis in patients with the I-I allele, and no differences in the insulin resistance index between groups of patients with CC, CT and -IF alleles （P = 0.12）. Spearman＇s rank correlation coefficient between insulin resistance and stage of fibrosis and body mass index was r = 0.618 and r = 0.605, respectively （P 〈 0.001）. AIM:To investigate large tumor suppressor 1 (LATS1 ) expression, promoter hypermethylation, and microsatellite instability in colorectal cancer (CRC).METhODS:RNA was isolated from tumor tissue of 142 CRC patients and 40 colon mucosal biopsies of healthy controls. After reverse transcription, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed, and LATS1 expression was normalized to expression of the ACTB and RPL32 housekeeping genes. To analyze hypermethylation, genomic DNA was isolated from 44 tumor CRC biopsies, and methylation-specific PCR was performed. Microsatellite instability (MSI) status was checked with PCR using BAT26, BAT25, and BAT40 markers in the genomic DNA of 84 CRC patients, followed by denaturing gel electrophoresis. RESULTS:Decreased LATS1 expression was found in 127/142 (89.4%) CRC cases with the average ratio of the LATS1 level 10.33 ± 32.64 in CRC patients vs 32.85 ± 33.56 in healthy controls. The lowest expression was found in Dukes' B stage tumors and G1 (welldifferentiated) cells. hypermethylation of the LATS1 promoter was present in 25/44 (57%) CRC cases analyzed. LATS1 promoter hypermethylation was strongly associated with decreased gene expression; methylated cases showed 162× lower expression of LATS1 than unmethylated cases. Although high-grade MSI (mutation in all three markers) was found in 14/84 (17%) cases and low-grade MSI (mutation in 1-2 markers) was found in 30/84 (36%) cases, we found no association with LATS1 expression. CONCLUSION:Decreased expression of LATS1 in CRC was associated with promoter hypermethylation, but not MSI status. Such reduced expression may promote progression of CRC.

AIM:To examine if dietary and socio-economic factors contribute to helicobacter pylori(h pylori)re-infection. METhODS:The population of patients consisted of subjects in whom h pylori infection had been successfully treated in the *** were divided into two groups:Ⅰ-examined group(111 persons with h pylori re-infection)andⅡ-control group(175 persons who had not been re-infected).The respondents were interviewed retrospectively on their dietary habits and socio-economic factors. RESULTS:A statistically significant lower frequency of fermented dairy products(Ph h pylori re-infection as compared to those who had not been re-infected. CONCLUSION:high dietary intake of probiotic bacteria,mainly Lactobacillus,and antioxidants,mainly vitamin C(contained in fruit and vegetables),might decrease the risk of h pylori re-infection.

The behavioral responses exerted by spinal administration of the opioid-neurotensin hybrid peptide, PK23, were studied in adult male rats. The antinociceptive effect upon exposure to a thermal stimulus, as well as tolerance development, was assessed in an acute pain model. The PK23 chimera at a dose of 10 nmol/rat produced a potent pain-relieving effect, especially after its intrathecal administration. Compared with intrathecal morphine, this novel compound was found to possess a favourable side effect profile characterized by a reduced scratch reflex, delayed development of analgesic tolerance or an absence of motor impairments when given in the same manner, though some animals died following barrel rotation as a result of its i.c.v. administration(in particular at doses higher than 10 nmol/rat). Nonetheless, these results suggest the potential use of hybrid compounds encompassing both opioid and neurotensin structural fragments in pain management. This highlights the enormous potential of synthetic neurotensin analogues as promising future analgesics.
